Hi Guys,

This is a weird one. I was forced to downgrade to a lesser PC (Read office PC) with the following specs:

Windows 10 home edition 64 bit

Processor: Intel pentium CPU J3710 @ 1.60HHz

Installed memory : 8.00GB (shared with on board GPU)

VP8, VP9 , PM5, and all the VPX's up to 10.5 work as they did on my gaming box running Windows 10, which is down for the count for while. However, 10.6 on this machine has changed in three ways. The first, as the program loads, I get a momentary blank screen. No real biggie. The next thing I notice is that the system volume, which is normally set at 12 or thereabouts jumps to 54! Thirdly, there is noticeable flipper lag. Dis I miss something in the 10.6 release notes, or is it just that my system is underpowered for this version of VPX.
If so, are there any ramifications of running / saving 10.6 tables under 10.5?

Cheers,

Nursie

Well, i do not know about the volume thing which is weird

But i would stay with the VP9 stuff probably
that CPU only has an HD 405 GPU
Even on lowest settings it probably will not preform well on many VP10 tables, gonna be hit and miss

That CPU is limited to 1.6Ghz, between that and the GPU, it probably will not help a lot with flipper lag

but VP9 should run pretty well i'd think

You got me on the volume thing though
VPX does not issue any system volume commands

Noticeable flipper lag, might also be that you didn't transfer the nvram files over. From my experience. If pinmame doesn't have a nvram, it will very often act up the first time it is launched and are coming from a factory default. Also, like wiesshund pointed out. That computer isn't really good enough for vp in the first place. It is not made for gaming.

From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.

Hi Thalamus,
All nvram files are where they are supposed to be and are functioning as expected. I've found that by dropping back to 10.5 with a Windows7 compatibility seems to solve the problem pretty well. There is a very slight flipper lag (milliseconds), but each table so far is playable. PUP tables are definitely on hold for the duration as this machine could never handle the graphics load. This will have to do until I get my games machine up and running again. Anybody want to buy a kayak?

Cheers,

Nursie

Yea being that PUP handles all video in software, so decoded and rendered on CPU
that would be hard for you, i think it would lag the tables bad as they fight for CPU time

but thankfully, i think most PUP tables, you can just leave PUP off, load a normal backglass, and set pinmame to not be .hidden
and kind of play them normally?

And if you need to, you can disable B2s in the nudge prefs
That will shed a little load, just wont have a backglass

Yeah Wiesshund,

That's what I'm doing. No backglass, just playing the tables. I think there might be one or two tables that have been scripted for scoring on the backglass only, but I'll cross that bridge when i get to it.

Cheers.

most of those you can change .hidden to read .hidden=0 and  pinmame will pop up and let you see scores

Not on romless tables of course

you can kinda tweak those to keep showing 1 score reel in cab view, then move it so it doesnt block your view
I'd edit a copy of the table though cause eventually you will be back to normal and wont need it

Well it gets kinda weirder. Tables play just fine under 10.7. I forget which release it is, but it was before August. I just played Heavy Metal and it played really well on fast speed. I had a ball. Think I'll go with 10.7 now.

Spoke too soon. 10.7 has a few issue I don't like. The least of which is despite saving a table, the moment you switch to the backglass view, the settings for physics and table slope revert back to the original ones if you have changed them.

The good news is, I've found the workaround to the original problem. My Windows10, for some reason, does not like the filename Vpinballx, regardless of version. So I renamed my vpinballx to vpinball10.6 and everything works as it should. No problems running and saving tables, other than that very slight lag due to the temporary downgrade of the hardware. I might even try running a backglass.

Cheers,

Nursie
