File Name: Junk Yard (Williams 1996) VPX

File Submitter: mfuegemann

File Submitted: 03 Oct 2016

File Category: VPX/VPinMAME Recreations

Author(s): mfuegemann
Fuzzel (3D objects and textures)
Dark (3D objects and textures)
Hauntfreaks (lighting)
Manufacturer: Williams
Year: 1996
Media Pack: Link to Media Pack
Permission to MOD?: Yes, with approval

This is the VPX version of Junk Yard by Williams.

I used my playfield redraw from the VP9 version and added some new plastics images. The physics of the wrecking ball and toilet were changed as I was able to use collidable primitives for that now.
Fuzzel contributed the toilet, fridge, dog house, flipper and bus models and textures.
Dark provided the great plastic and wire ramps and the car switch assembly.
Hauntfreakts adjusted the overall lighing and the inserts lights.

At the top of the script You can adjust the flasher intensity, ball size, outlane post positions and show/hide the apron Shopping Window display.
As the standard table sounds (rolling, hits, ramps) are quite low I added an option to increase the volume. I set the multiplier to 25, default is 1.

There are nudging problems with some of the VPX releases availiable. If You encounter violent nudging and lost Wrecker balls, please use VPX 10.1 (2660) or build 2798, as this was reported stable.
Have fun and please use the support topic to post any findings and suggestions.

Michael

This table looks so good; especially on the high quality settings.  Plays really good as well.  Definitely a 5 star table.  Thanks Michael, Fuzzel, Dark, and Hauntfreaks.

Whooo, here it is! Actually I didn't know this table before, but came across the VP9 version through the WIP thread of this one and instantly loved it.

Now here is a VPX version, which looks damn good!

Have to finish my holyday first, then I can test it at home (well we all have our duties before fun).

Whoa! It's out! Running to the basement to install now. thanks!

Edit: And done... This is a fantastic table... Looks amazing, crane feels good... I haven't played a real Junk Yard in a good 10 years I'd have to guess, still a lot of fun, one that flies under the radar a lot of the time but is a lot of fun to play.

Amazing work, the behavor of the wrecking ball is fantastic.

Thank you so much all involved for sharing.

If I may make a suggestion, it would be nice to add a sound for when the ball drops from one of the ramps onto the playfield.

Hi Mark,

the drop sound at the inlanes is in, but it is triggered a bit too early, I think. The sound at the top ramp (shortcut to Spike) works quite well.

thanks michael, but i have a strange issue, i have a popup saying null on line 556, and the table stops instantly, i have the vpx 10.2 scripts, and i tried with vpx 10.1 and 10.2

Sub WreckBallKicker_timer()
Wrecker2.Velx = Wrecker2.Velx + Wrecker.velx * 1.7
Wrecker2.Vely = Wrecker2.Vely + Wrecker.vely * 1.7

Hi,

I have adjusted the ramp drop sounds and removed some unused images. So the table size is now 89MB. I will investigate arngrim's error and upload an update then.

I haven't looked at the script, but is this something that could occur during ball search?  i.e. Crane is triggered but there is no activeball causing the error

Hi Michael,

thanks for the information and the new adjustments for the ramp drop sounds.

I already played some games today, and the table plays really great.

The apron with the shooping window is a very nice feature.

Played for hours today. Just a top notch table. Thank you so much to all involved in making this table as great as it is.

From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.
