I am making a list of parts needed for my pin cab and would like some suggestions.  On an old mame cabinet I did many years back, I used a volume control that I mounted on the bottom of my control panel.  This volume control continues to work great and I'm now looking for something similar for my pin cab project.

 

Unfortunately, the company I purchased the old one from (3Tronics) does not seem to be the same company or sell this anymore.  Would anyone be able to point me in the direction to locate something similar?

 

What are you guys using to control the volume in your pin cabs?

Pinballx has a Volume Up and Volume Down key assignment. I haven't tried it but if it controls windows volume, then you can use 2 buttons to control volume

You can do a simple volume control via buttons via an ahk script that runs on startup. You can use a shift button combination such as hold start and left flipper for down and right flipper for up. If you use a newer iPac, you can program the same stuff via the ultimarc software. If you use some sort of joystick controller board rather than a keyboard emulator, you can use the free version of xpadder on start up to accomplish the same thing.

I used a 5.1 logitech pc speaker system and I used the main right hand speaker controls. I removed them from the housing and mounted them under the cab. This way I can turn the sound completely off, adjust it up and down and also plug in some ear buds for late night playing.

I'm going to need a wireless keyboard once the cab is done, so this could be a good choice.  Thanks.

 Still can't get a single picture to work from my computer to here unless I make it so small that you can't really see anything.

 

I used this Logitech Z506 5.1 speaker setup .... http://www.newegg.co...1-057-_-Product

 

 I replaced the 2 front Logitech speakers with some Alpine 5x7 car speakers I had laying around. The Center channel of the Logitech kit is mounted under the backbox so that it sends sound in-between the glass and TV monitor. I have really had to boost the center channel in the speaker configuration in Windows to actually hear it while playing. The Alpines are being driven off of the Logitech amp, I just cut the cord for the front speakers and wired in the Alpines. The rear speakers are aimed at your feet and give a good fill but no real "surround" sound to speak of. If I turn it up It really shakes the house.

I like what you did with the knob from the speakers.  My cab speakers don't have this type of knob, but I'll see if I have some old speakers I can take apart.

I use a device called a "volbox" for my arcade and visual pinball cabinets.  Its available on Amazon.com for around $20.  A bit pricey for what it is, but its an "off the shelf" solution.

Very simple.  Mount it on the outiside of the cab (I usually mount it to the back -- but it can be mounted anywhere).  One cable in -- one cable out.

I ended up mounting a similar device to the bottom of my cab and I like having the ability to quickly raise or lower the volume during play.

I use the soft volume controls available via PinballX.  I also have the volume control for individual games via the coin door buttons.  I also have two 12vDC amplifiers that I can access via the coin door to set the maximum amplification to some reasonably hefty car speakers (2 sets, base of cabinet and traditional backbox)

 

 

The amplifiers can be seen in bottom left of shot.  2 x 12vDC stereo amplifiers from eBay.
