Hi everyone,

I need some help regarding volume control on older pinball tables that don’t use a DMD. I'm specifically referring to tables like Blackout by Williams, where the score displays are rendered directly on the playfield and there's no virtual DMD window.

On modern DMD tables, I can usually press the º key (tilde/backtick on some keyboards) and use the flipper buttons to navigate and adjust the volume, or alternatively press End and use the 8 and 9 keys to control volume. However, none of these options seem to work on these older, non-DMD tables.

I’ve checked the VPinMAME settings (via F1), and the option “Show DMD is enabled, but as expected, no DMD appears for these types of tables.

I’ve searched the forum and found similar posts, but none of the suggested solutions work for tables like Blackout, where the score is part of the actual backglass or playfield artwork and there’s no virtual DMD.

Is there any way to adjust the volume on these older tables?

Maybe through registry edits, script changes, or some VPM hack I’m missing?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Set the  .hidden to 0  in the Table_Init  for the VPM score window to be visible and then click on it and do the tilde thing.

I didn't get that one had to get into the Table1  part of the table's script editor.  When I made that change, I was able to hit the tilde key to change the volume, but it didn't remember it.  If you change it this way, "Guide to adjusting volume on DMD tablesit will remember it.  I used the End key to simulate an open coin door in MM, and then 8 & 9 to lower and raise the volume.  This may be a feature of the ROM.  It starts out set at what it calls 0 dB, which is actually -32 dB.  Somebody probably called the mfr and said the default was too loud, and so set it stupid low by default.

Some version VPinball 10.8.0 supposedly fixed it: "VPinMAME Rom sound volume quite low #564", but the release still does this.

Another downside of doing this, is that the VPinMame window pops up over a second one that is part of the table definition in MM.  One has to click on the VPinMame window, let it change screen resolutions if needed, and then click the playfield, and let it change back, to get it to disappear that way.  To undo the above solution, set Hidden back to its original value, with:

Hidden = DesktopMode

Another option is to change "volume" # from 0 to 5,10,etc for that Rom; in windows registry- HKEY_CURRENT_USER - Software - Freeware - VisualPinMame - "your RomName" - "Volume"
