Hello - First off I'm a newbie to the VP community.  I'm doing my best to learn everything I can about Virtual Pinball.  It sounds like a blast.  I am currently having a table built for me so I can't wait to get it.  I came across some videos on YouTube where this one talented guy named open6I added music to his videos.  The playfield has video and he added cool music to it.  

 

My understanding is that he used Adobe Media Encoder CS 5.5 to do this.  Does anyone know of any video tutorials that explain exactly how to do this?  Or any other methods to accomplish this?  I can figure out the Encoder part but adding the right settings for the output is the challenging part. 

 

If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be greatly appreciate it.  Just trying to learn how to do this.  Plus where do I find the music files?  

 

In any regards, I'm excited to learn this stuff and everything else there is to learn about VP.  I'll make sure to pay it forward once I learn enough.

that is probably where he got his tunes also

as for adding music with video..ya' gots me there

I don't do videos at all sorry

but Firefox has an app that lets you download any video or music from the web

saving it as an mp4 (video) then I go into wavepad and save it as an mp3 (music)

That's cool Faralos.  I appreciate your response.  It will take me some time but I'll figure it out.  Once I do I'll make sure to share it with you and anyone else who is interested.  It does give the tables a nice added feel to it.  Just thought I would throw out the question out there and see if anyone could help.

Actually, I source 95% of the music in my videos from my own personal music collection (mostly FLAC for audio quality) but Youtube is also an 'OK' source for sound/music...

 

What I do is as follows:

 

I use FRAPS for capturing video from Future Pinball and Camtasia for capturing from Visual Pinball. I capture 2 min worth of Attract Mode from each table. FRAPS outputs to an avi file using its own compression method and camtasia likewise.

 

Just a note about the avi file - a typical 2 minute capture runs around 4 to 5 GB in size so make sure you have plenty of space to work with.

 

I then choose an audio song/clip that I feel relates to the table (a few times its the song selection from the table itself and I just select a lossless format from my own collection). I edit the song/sound clip in Audacity and make it 2 min long. Most of the time I edit the song by removing certain parts of it to make it 2 min long of mostly music. I then output this from Audacity to a wav file.

 

Next is getting the audio file muxed with the video file. This I do using AviDemux2. I load the video, trim it to 2 minutes and add in the sound file I edited. I output this (muxed together) to an avi file which I then encode using Adobe Media Encoder 5.5 (and more recently 6.0).

 

Just to add that sometimes a table has its own great attract music/sound clip so I'll export the sound to audacity, edit it if needed, clean it up etc.. and then output that to a wav file ready to mux with the video file.

 

Any questions just ask - its not a hard procedure once you get the basics down.

Wow! Thanks Open6I and everyone else.  I really appreciate it.  I'll give it a shot.  It does sound like a lot of steps but I think it's totally worth it.  I'm more of a visual guy but with these instructions I think I should be able to follow it.  

 

I guess the only challenge is finding good music clips to fit each table. ha ha

Took me probably close to 6 months to get all 400+ tables done (last count I'm at 604 tables combined between FP and VP with a few duplicates) - but I think the end result is worth it (at least to me as I can leave the cab running all day long cycling through music and attraction modes).

Oh snap! That's a sweet take on Terminator 2.  Nice song selection.  

 

I still don't have my cabinet done but once I do I plan on starting to download everything I need.  I read through your directions carefully and had a few questions if you don't mind.  When you say you capture the video using Camtasia (I will probably only be playing Visual Pinball).  Do you capture the video by opening the table in Visual Pinball Editor in full screen and simply getting it from there?  

 

Then you muxed the audio file with the video file using AviDemux2. Next you output this (muxed together) to an avi file.   After you encode it do you save it as a .vpt file? And then add this table back to the appropriate folder (table)?

 

Sorry just trying to make sure I got this step correct.  Any chance you could ever do a vid on how you go about to get this done? Probably too much work to capture on video right?

Having such great music while browsing in Hyperpin - isn't it a big disappointment when the table is loaded and plays only midi sounds or beeps?

Not for me .. I enjoy the vids with sound and think its a great idea. Just my opinion tho

 I haven't made vids for all just for some of my favorites ..

@Fulltilt - Do you have a difference approach when it comes to adding music to the vids?  I personally think it adds a nice touch to it.  I especially like the tables that are music related like Aerosmith and AC DC.  Just to name a few.

Actually I was just thinking about the AC-DC table .. maybe adding "For those about to Rock" to the video since its a song not in the game but one of my favorites for sure ..although I could just add it in the table script if i really want it in the game.

 

I am using Windows Movie Maker if you can believe that .. I just use a free online converter for any format changes I need. Its definitely not the best way I am sure ..and thats why when I have more time I want to try Open6l's way, I am sure after doing some 500+ his way would be easier and faster. For me .. when I saw the 1st video I really liked the attract mode with the movies/music and wanted to have this is my cab setup so for now this is the only way I could get it done.

I noticed that camtasia is not freeware but they do have a free trial version of it

are there any free programs that I can use since I have no income to speak of?

since after a month the camtasia freebie runs out

or can I cheat and uninstall it when it ends then reinstall it again?

Yeah it's not free software and you can't reinstall it after the trial period.  It will recognize that you had tried it before.  Otherwise, everyone would do that.  

 

@fulltilt - I'm familiar with other programs like Premiere and After Effects.  I'm going to see if there is another way to do this without all the steps.  If I find anything out I'll post it here.  Now, the only thing I need to figure out is where can I find a PC? I'm a Mac guy so I'll need to go back to my roots. he he

Actually - I do everything (other than the original capture) on my mac

 

Avidemux2, Audacity, Adobe Media Encoder all for mac.

 

Also - if you want to eliminate the capture process you can grab the HP videos that bitupset posts. They will be in f4v format. You can load that directly into Avidemux2 and mux in your song of choice. Then output that to an xvid and load that into Media Encoder.

 

Alternately you can ouput directly from Avidemux2 to an mp4 with aac audio which is almost similiar to Media Encoder's format but I have found that HyperPin doesn't like it too much.
