Serious flipper lag and stuttering at the latest rev.

There were no changes whatsoever to anything regarding gameplay in that rev.. So if you think this is new, please try to nail down the last revision that still works normally for you and the one where it starts to not work the same way via https://vpinball.com...s/vp-10-6-beta/

Keep all images to the power of 2 (1024x1024, 2048x2048, 4096x4096 etc)

Your write up is spot-on, but that part is not really necessary anymore. It might allow for best quality mipmaps, but in practice this is not really noticable.

Rev 3723 was latest, which worked OK at my PC. Ever since it has gone worse and worse. Can't play anymore. I can't even use Dip switches correctly.

Can you please send 2 or 3 of them to me via PM? Cause my tests all went through..

I think I found a "video options" bug. Its to do with manually defining "ball aspect ratio". he ball looks very "squashed", compared to an earlier version.

Here is what the ball looks like with rev. 3696

Kind of seems that the ball can not be manually re-sized at all. It never changes with setting revisions.

Here is what the ball looks like with rev. 3738

Works great here.

Defining these settings is my solution to "egg-ball". Am I maybe missing something, or is it areal bug. If it is a glitch, can this please be fixed before final release?

Thanks.

I tried to repro this, but for me the ball looks always the same with your settings. Could you please try more versions inbetween (https://vpinball.com...s/vp-10-6-beta/) so that i could maybe spot something fishy in the smaller commit range?

*ping*

Also at anybody else who can repro this behavior..

Looking at it tonight Toxie.

Toxie,

I am not seeing the issue now. I was likely doing something wrong. Dont think thee is a problem, but I will keep my eye on it.

Thanks. :)

Power of 2 maps allow for easy scaling, so not only will they load faster/easier but they can be scaled down by texture limiter for lower end systems.  Some game engines will load in textures at their lower res first, like for example objects far in the distance and scale them up as you get closer.  May not be totally necessary for VP but it's still a good practice.

I would rather recommend though to keep them rectangular at power of 2 if you insist ;) so not just quadratic resolutions.. (but IMHO even that is not a must anymore nowadays, really, trust me ;))

@pin-pete : Sure you don't have some kind of anti-virus/defender running ?

From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.

Do you really run two anti virus systems in parallel? no wonder you have input lag.

Two antivirus programs running, means they're tripping over each other. I'm amazed VPX is the only software you're having noticeable issues with.

Bad news. I'm getting consistent crashes when importing large-ish OBJs into a table. They are clean meshes and import fine in previous versions but crash every single time since the new OBJ import implementation.

fixed now.  :)

I can't find the icon for the Sprite Object.

Your engine is cranking out some pretty good gameplay

I imagined at the start of 10 that we would have had long already an up-front repository of models. Not as much the toys, as the basic components. Pixels are my thing, not meshes.

Serious flipper lag and stuttering at the latest rev.

I also didn't notice any lag in the last versions. Everything is working fine.

Deinstall AVG. You don't need that. Windows defender is enough. The best antivirus is a program called brain. :db:

Every antivirus program install his components deep in the system. So I don't use that crap for the last years.

And I never got a virus or something else in my three PC.

So not sure some of the stuff I am about to say has been mentioned, but there are a couple of things that I would like to see updated in maybe 10.7 or even if somebody could fix it in 10.6. Also, these are all written from the perspective of playing it on a PC/laptop so not for anything like building your own cabinet (just wanted to clear up any confusion so in case if somebody started reading they weren't like "Wait a sec, I never had that happen on my cabinet") but here goes

1) I would like the options menu (when you press Q) to be a bit more UI friendly and just overall have a better look and feel like you get when you are playing FX3 or PA, plus have some more options like FX3 where you can select stuff like resume game, restart games, options (for sound etc), so that way it would be easier to just navigate in and out of tables easier than having to remember a bunch of hot keys

2) When I pause the game and go out of it by using alt+tab, I would like to be able to just smoothly transition in and out of the game to another screen without having to leave the game and then end up having the game freeze and just shut down VPX and restart all over again

3) Just for fun, I would like to have maybe something like FX3 where when you add new tables, it's more or less a cleaner UI as well instead of just clicking on a table in your folder and the game start up. I know that might be a bit of a challenge to pull something like that off but hey, we all can dream.

So that is about the only major things I can think of. Have a great day  :D

There are some great front ends that do most of what you are asking, and more. And they work not only for Cabinet users, but also Desktop users.

There is the great PinUp Player-Popper front end found here...

https://vpinball.com...nt-end-install/

And here for accessories....

https://vpinball.com...ller-and-tools/

There is also PinballX and PinballY frontend which are both great also.

Not sure of the links for them, but a simple search should help you.

3) ...something like FX3...

Why aren't you just playing FX3?

A complete UI package isn't going to do us any favors in keeping what we do differentiated from commercial software. If we want this to continue we can't jump in front of the C&D bus.

1. I do play FX3 already

2. I was just making suggestions and not saying that I wanted to have VPX be LITERALLY like FX3. Besides, I am new to all this. I just found out about Virtual Pinball not even but a few months ago so I am still learning all the ropes and about all the ins and outs of the platform. So if i say something or ask something, it's not that I am just being willfully stupid, but just learning as I go. And neither would I want VPX to be just a FX3 clone. Just doing as the thread suggests is throwing out ideas and suggestions. I am not here to throw anybody off or upset some feathers. Just throwing my two cents into the rings as to what I would like to see in future updates is all.

As xenonph said use a good frontend. I recommend PinballX. Most people with cabinets use those, and your UI and "better feel" will be as good or even better than under FX3.

Check out Pinupplayer (or better Pinupsystem) and PinballY. These are fantastic frontend tools, too.
