File Name: Verne's World (Spinball 1996)

File Submitter: jpsalas

File Submitted: 14 Jan 2024

File Category: VPX/VPinMAME Recreations

Author(s): jpsalas
Manufacturer: Other - Pinball
Year: 1996
ROM: Link to ROM
Permission to MOD?: Yes, with approval

Based on the table by SPinball from 1996.

This VPX8 table is a rebuild from scratch, but many 3D objects are from the old table by freneticamnesic & gtxjoe. Also most of the graphics are from that table too, although I increased the resolution of the graphics and added a few new graphics..

This table was made as a special request by akiles50000, and it was possible thanks to his pictures.

Thanks to pedator and akiles50000 for testing the table.

I have a vpx version of this table released a while back. I don't remember who the author was.

After playing your Jolly Park and now Verne's World I'm convinced the devs at Spinball laced their paella with peyote back in the mid-nineties.

It's a nice recreation of a table that's really hard to find footage of - so far I've only seen gameplay on the Pinball Expo 2012 Youtube video by Crow Continuum (around the 20:40 mark): https://youtu.be/WIFmu0qNrSc?t=1241

A couple of remarks:

- It's "Verne's World" rather than "Vernes World".

- During play, at one point two balls were loaded into the plunger lane - a bug?

- I can increase the ROM volume with the "enter" key, but not decrease it with "1".

- Apparently Spinball didn't know what "captive ball" usually means in pinball logo, this table uses it to call out a ball lock.

I LOVE this table, very well done !

of course the former table by frenetic was very nice, too. But JP's rebuild is state of the art, no doubt.

Thanks to all who had their hands in this (akiles, joe, frenetic)

Maybe akiles50000 could ask JP for more recreations ?   :dblthumb:   (of course only a dream, no order)

Karl

@ X Vector: of course you can change the rom volume directly in vpinmame with "tilde" (at this rom it is MSM5205 #0 and #1), i lowered them to 10%

Just a small note about the name, I know it is "Verne's World" but the one who designed the web must have not been an English speaker, so if you try to use ' in file names, you get all kind of strange names in the download :D

It is the same with my tables starting with "JP's...", which I must rename the zip file the whole time to "JPs..." otherwise many people is not able to download them :D Hooray for the file names in unix/linux/web/windows :D

How can i increase the electronic sounds in this table and also get into the service menu? I tried increasing the electronic sounds with the vpx menu, tilde key, the 0 key, no dice. The mechanical sounds are ear damaging just trying to listen to the electronic sounds.

Nice table JP!

That was a big help. For some reason pressing 9 when i first started the table didn't enter me into the service menu. Second time  worked for some reason. Also, the instructions for this table didn't work. It was the A and Enter keys that adjusted volume when in the service menu and i had to reset the table as per usual using the F3 key and not as instructed on that page waiting for 30 seconds. Thanks sir, appreciated!

Hello and thank you very much for this recreation !!!

If you are interested to adjust the game to 5- ball use the DIP switch menu of Jolly Park. Copy the respective script lines under the script of Verne's World and you see the menu when pressing F6.

confirm, the dip switch menu works

one urgent modification:

changed the ".AddForm 700, 400, "Jolly Park - DIP switches" to .AddForm 700, 400, "Verne's World - DIP switches"

:tongue3:

About the DIP switches, pedator just told me that the number of balls is DIP 12, so to change the number of balls you don't need to copy/paste the Jolly Park script, just press F6 and select the DIP 12, press OK and F3 and now you can play with 5 balls.

Hi, it's me again,

I have the problem that the rom-sounds are too low. Both DA- channels are set to 100%, regardless to that is the volume too low. I reduced in the table setting the mech. volume from 100 to 1, the result is still not satisfying. Is there other option to improve the situation?

Thank you for all hints in advance, Christian

Press 9 to adjust the ROM volume and use the key 1 to lower the volume and Enter to set it higher.

Press 9 to adjust the ROM volume and use the key 1 to lower the volume and Enter to set it higher.

If anyone has changed their plunger key to something other than Enter, they will need to use that to raise the volume.

Crazy game. Working on this made me not want to finish Jolly Park, though dark made some incredible models for it and I feel bad. I think Spinball had a few too many ideas for their pinball games.

I'd like to upload two images to this topic.

I've tried using VPF Image Host and I got the following error message "You are not allowed to use that image on this community"

I've tried copying these images directly into the topic and I got the following error message "Your post is too short"
