Hey, complete noob here, so apologies if this has been asked elsewhere but I couldn't find it and it seems I want the opposite of any other thread I found on DMDs in FP.

I'm going to be playing on my Legends Pinball and I don't have the VIBS board yet. I went ahead and used the files in the "BAM Settings for cabinet" zip as instructed in the Mega-Guide. Everything looks great except that I would like the DMD to be displayed over the playfield like I saw in the desktop setting since, as I said, don't have the VIBS board yet. How would I go about doing this?

Thanks!

in FP you have to make the DMD a HudDMD, if i recall correctly

you could duplicate the DMD entirely (in the script) to a HUD DMD object

or

You can find the DMD object in the translite in the editor, copy its name
then rename it to like dmdname-old

insert a HUD DMD display instead

give it same name as the DMD object you deleted

and then adjust position

HUD DMD will float over the table

I believe this is correct from memory, you can do this with any translite display component

if you do the rename and make another object thing, when you get your vibs board, just delete the hub object and rename the non hud object back again to reverse things

If you feel the need to empty your wallet in my direction, i don't have any way to receive it anyways

Most FP tables have a Hud DMD.  Most have a DMD on the backglass and one on the HUD.  You can see the DMD on the Hud on your desktop.  Does the table you are playing not have one? I am not familiar with Legends Pinball.

Yes, I see the DMD on the hud on my desktop. I didn't realize that DMD and hud were two different things, so let me back up.

So I followed the directions in the Mega-Guide to set this up. There were two zips that had some display presets, one for desktop, one for cabinet. I tried cabinet first and that's where I didn't see the hud. I tried the desktop settings and I see the hud, but the view is not what I want.

So I guess my question now is how to get the hud to display while using the cabinet settings?

Thanks for the help so far!

I got it!

So for the sake of anyone else in the future who might be in my unique situation, here's the fix.

Use the settings for cabinets as stated in the Mega-Guide. Load up and play a table and press the ~ key. Go down to "Config," then select "Addons." From there changed "Hide overlays" to never. Done.

Thanks again, everyone.

Cabinet setups don't want the HUD / Overlays on the playfield, as they display the DMD on their backbox or dmd monitor. That's why the cabinet settings I provided are set the way they are (and I described what they were in the Mega Guide).

If you are using a desktop setup with a single screen, then use my desktop settings to show the HUD DMD.

Anything on a Hud will be distorted if you set the screen rotation to 90 or 270 degrees like you would on a cabinet.  The rotation squeezes the sides of overlays and DMDs together.  That is why most cab users turn it off with "Hide overlays".  You can unsqueeze the overlays so they work on a cabinet by following my guide at the link below; however, you can't unsqueeze DMDs.

You can mount non-Hud DMDs on the backwall of the playfield.  You just move the DMD to the bottom of the backglass.  You may not be able to see it on a cab though.  You might explain what you are trying to do and maybe I can help.
