File Name: King Rock (Gottlieb 1972)

File Submitter: Mustang1961

File Submitted: 27 May 2023

File Category: VPX/VPinMAME - MOD Tables

Author(s): Loserman76
Bodydump
Manufacturer: Gottlieb
Year: 1972
Permission to MOD?: Unspecified

Initial announcement from Jeff:

VPX conversion
Artwork done by Bodydump
others to thank: GNance, JPSalas, Pinuck, hauntfreaks, Borgdog, Arngrim
in addition to the "standard" keys (typically "1" to start game and "5" for coin), I've added "3" as another coin input and "4" for coin and auto-start game (like I recall the dime slots generally were) to simulate 3 coin slots
when game is not in progress, holding down left flipper for about 3-5 seconds will bring up the options menu. left flipper selects item, right flipper changes option.
I've also included shadows for the ball and flippers. If you want to turn them off look for these lines at the beginning of the script:
Const ShadowFlippersOn = true
Const ShadowBallOn = true
change to false if you want either of the shadows not showing on your tables

My view on "King Rock": I saw the game in a pub when I was a child, I flattened my nose at the window again and again,  but no chance to play it at my age of 11/12 years. So it is today my special pleasure to offer you here my version 1.0a:

game
- new physic (cab optimized)
- replaced flipper images (without the black spot) thanks to Mrtr32
- slight layout change -> reduces ball losses between the flipper fingers
- all object sounds now in operation - many new sounds
- rolling ball sound level adjusted
- new material assignments for metal sheets - better appearance
- improved ball and ball position in the plunger lane
- new ball stop in the plunger lane
- the bumper triggers are now in colored plastic
- outer bumpers wired in parallel
- new: light balance of indicator and bumper lights
- new: timing for ball release - now after player up alternator ends
- new: animated spinner rods with the respective holes in the playfield
- new: painted spinner image
- plastics with semi-transparent edges (taken from Jeff's VP9 version)
- center plastic corrected in position and newly proportioned
- new POV for cab use
- in game over state the plastics illumination stays on (the original behavior of all Gottlieb EMs)

backglass
- new lighting for the score reels in snippit technique
- rolling score reels, newly proportioned
- lightning controls according to Gottlieb appearance

zip contains game, bg and pics for cab users.

All this in kind tribute to Jeff Whitehead.

I really like this table!  It's harder than it looks!  The "Ball in Play" counter on the B2S backglass isn't working for me, though.  Is this a small "bug" or do I have something set up wrong?

Thanks! - Kayaker2001

Hi Kayaker2001,

I regret you have this flaw. In my update I didn't tough the script at the BIP- control. It works proper on both of my systems. Have you tried Jeff's VP9 or VPX versions?

Good luck & best regards, Christian.

And today, of course, it works fine!  ...  using either the latest VPX 32 bit or 64 bit version.  ;-)   Maybe just a system reboot fixed it for some odd reason. Thanks for they reply, though!  It really is a great table!
