File Name: Ice Fever (Gottlieb 1985) NHL Mod.vpx

File Submitter: endeemillr

File Submitted: 14 Sep 2022

File Category: VPX/VPinMAME - MOD Tables

Author(s): endeemillr, armyaviation, Tom, BorgDog, Bord, Thalamus and Arngrim
Backglass: Wildman, endeemillr
Manufacturer: Gottlieb
Year: 1985
Permission to MOD?: No

Now, with fully functioning backglasses! No longer relies on the Pinmame LCD display or Freezy's Alphanumeric displays (although they are still beautiful and superior!)

Modification of Armyaviation's Ice Fever that allows selecting home and away teams from all 32 NHL franchises. Hold down left magnasave to change away team with left/right flippers, and hold down the right magnasave to change home team.  Holding down either or both magnasaves and pressing the launch button advances team selection by an entire division.  The program might freeze for a few seconds to change teams. You can hold down both magnasaves to change both teams at once. Teams are arranged by division and then alphabetical by city.

Thanks to Armyaviation for allowing to modify his table. I never could have done it from scratch!. Also thanks to Wildman for letting me use his backglass as a starting point.  His original backglass still works with this table.  The included backglasses all show the team uniform changes and the scores and other backglass stuff. There is a "Classic" Version, mostly like Wildman's Backglass, a "City LED" version which simulates an alphanumeric display showing team names/cities, and a Widescreen version, specifically formatted for 16:9 screens that includes team logos.

I included setup instructions to help anyone with the alphanumeric displays and a new wheel image. Do you wish to use a retired uniform or college team? I also included the photoshop template I made to create the playfield and backglass images.

There are two tables - one for NHL East Division, and the other covering the NHL West teams. is this what you mean by two uploads Weisshund?

My original intent was to have all 32 teams in one table, but it crashed my underpowered system, and it also took forever to cycle through all of them. For those of you with more robust systems, it is not hard to merge them together.

You say thanks for wildmans approval to mod but you never asked for my permission to mod even though it says to….

Well, yours is a mod of Rascals, which is a mod of Wildmans, which is a mod of Itchigos which is a mod of Destruks.
And probably a number of missing persons i didnt list.

Point being, if i make a table, and no one has made it before me
and i give everyone permission to mod
NO ONE can EVER come along later, and make a derivative from it and lay ANY restrictions on it, forever and all time.

It one starts from scratch and does not use diddly from my original
not an object, or sound or graphic nor a single letter of script, then different story.

Though personally i am of the mind that, if one does not want derivatives of it, then don't release it
because we are all ganking someone's stuff, and we arent asking gottlieb or stern or williams or sega etc

You say thanks for wildmans approval to mod but you never asked for my permission to mod even though it says to….

Even though it says to... ‍What?!?!

Can we do something with "Permission to MOD?:" because it seems like it's not working and some people don't know how to use this feature.

How about making it mandatory for those releasing tables to be crystal clear when it comes to modding their work.

So much unnecessary confusion.

no actually, my table was a full build by myself and borgdog.  we may have used parts of the script from rascal,

Who got it from people before him
Did you send a thank you note to Destruk, whom Everyone else got it from?

(If Destruk had a nickel for everthing that was built from his original work, he'd be bloody rich)

with permission and thanks given, but it is not a mod of all those. all has built it before

But it is
My table no longer uses any of Destruk's art, i dont think it uses any original walls, that i can recall
and does not use the original script (though it IS retained in the script for documentation, if someone is bored enough to read 10,000 lines of commented stuff)

It is STILL a MOD of Detruk's table and always will be.
He figured out the ROM to VPM matrix of lamps switches and solenoids, not me, i got that from him.

-  I personally bought plastics and scanned them, borgdog got a playfield scan and we tuned it up.

- and if you actually would have read the writeup for my table i explain that it was a full rebuild, dont just search ICE FEVER here and see who

And i also made new graphics and parts and physics (could not do a table scan, no table to scan, cant even buy parts)
so i rebuilt the entire table.

Does not matter, at the end of the day, i started with Destruk's VP9 table and even if nothing else remains of it
i got all the switch, solenoid and lamp matrices from his original work.

So it is a MOD
And before that Rowamet made it, in real life, and i dont have their permission to do anything, so...

- since you have the answer to every question on this forum weisshund, why the fuck does it still say mod with permission on my original table then.  do some work and update the fucking site to reflect your bullshit rules....

- as far as your bullshit rules here, you still ask when it says mod with permission and you can say thanks.

Well, i would gladly change it for you but

1) It is Noah's board, so i could not just go editing it, even if i knew how
Though i do not find the rules bullshit.
Unless a table is original, we are Blatently taking other people's work, and we are not asking them at all.
And i know of only one person here with a legit reuse license from a pinball manufacturer.

2) You are literally in the credits? How is that not paying homage to you?
Not only that, your notes etc are still in the table.

It is amazing how much we think we own something when we dont.
It does not matter if i spent 6 months hand recreating the art, if i paint the Mona Lisa, it AINT mine, i got no claim to it, i didnt invent it
i just copied it, and you can guess that i didnt ask da Vinci permission.

So how am i going to flip out, if someone else decides to give her blonde hair and a lip piercing?
It wasnt mine, i stole it from Leonardo.
No matter what i tell myself in my head, it was never mine, i copied someone else's work.

If you feel the need to empty your wallet in my direction, i don't have any way to receive it anyways

According to your editted posts he clearly asked for permission.

And he included all the names in the Authors section.

I would say he has stayed within the rules of making mods.

Also is this his first mod? Even "seasoned modders" don't leave as much info as he has in his first post.

If he has everyones permission to make this mod, then I say he has done it exactly how uploading mods were meant to be done.

Thanks to everyone who had a helping hand in this table.

Seen, and unseen hands.

Carry on.

I have absolutely no issue with his mod, it was a misunderstanding.
