I wasn’t sure if this would be for VPinMame or VXP itself.  I am on VPX 10.6 running the latest VPinmame and SAM build 3.3b

i notice that, intermittently (the worst type of bugs!) when I launch tables where I have Altsound enabled that the table will load without sound.  Sometimes it loads fine and Altsound works.  It’s as if something doesn’t initialize properly.  The table will play but there will be no sound at all. While it is intermittent, it happens frequently.  I typically exit the table and relaunch a few times till it works properly.

I’m not sure how to get debug info out to see why this may be happening for me.

Could someone tell me which files are used to run Altsound?  Maybe I’ll just reinstall those files.

if there is a way to debug or isolate the issue, I’d love to try it and figure out why this is happening.

the latest tables I’ve been playing and seeing thus occur are NBA Fastbreak and Batman Data East.  It’s likely happening on others for me, these are just the ones I’m playing at the moment.

thank you!!

vpinmame.dll and bass.dll i believe

its a pinmame thing, vpx itself is kind of out of the picture i believe.

not sure how to debug log it.

it could possibly be having trouble loading a particular sound file or something

Suppose you could try loading all the wav's up in like audacity, and re-exporting them all, perhaps one encoded a bit funky?

Thanks @wiesshund I can try that however it happens on a variety of tables with Altsound.  I guess its possible there is a bad file in each but odds may be against it...still worth a try I guess.

the files help.  Maybe I pull another copy of VPinMame down.  I assume based lo was in that package as well..

It may not be bad per se, may have just encoded awkwardly since they encode on the fly

it is only a guess, could be just some tiny thing that vpm trips over.

try it on one table, backup the dumps, and try having audacity re-export them Can load them all in and do export multiple

and have it spit them out in standard wave format

See if it makes any difference at all.
Even if it does not help, wont hurt anything.

I've been doing some searches on OGG and Windows 10, outside of pinball, and see that folks have had issues with the Windows codec contained in the Windows Media Extensions.

I'm going to try associating OGG with VLC on my cabinet and see if that helps too!  I might try this first since it will be easy to see....

Not sure if its entirely related but I couldnt get the Elvis altsound to work after I had entered the rom settings to alter the volume. I found I had to delete the nvram 'Elvis' file and then run regedit and deleted the elvis rom to clear it from the system. When I restarted the rom with altsound on it worked straight away. Might be worth a try on the tables causing you a problem

if you are exporting to wav its going to output in standard form
and it will be what ever bitrate the files are 11k 22k 44k etc

what OGG is associated with wont change anything
VPinMAME does not use VLC to play the sounds back, it plays them itself
