File Submitted: 19 Sep 2020

File Category: VPX/VPinMAME Recreations

Author(s): Serpiko
Pinuck
Manufacturer: Gottlieb
Year: 1978
ROM: Link to ROM
Media Pack: Link to Media Pack
Permission to MOD?: Yes, without approval

VPX 10.8 REQUIRED

This is a conversion of the VP9 table by Serpiko and Pinuck to VPX.

I tried to retain as much of their work as possible and i have left all their notes and credits in the table and script

All i have done is update the table to play and run in VPX.
I have only changed things where needed due to changes in coding, or materials physics or function from VP9 to VPX
And added a few things like a FSS mode with backbox and digital scoring display
And a single screen desktop mode with digital score display

All credits to original authors, i have made nothing here really, simply brought a really fun old table out of yesterday.

The B2S Backglass was made by Herweh it is linked as the media pack.

ALL MODS MUST BE UPLOADED TO VPF
NO UPLOAD, NO PERMISSION TO MOD

Uploading version that does not give audio errors in VPX 10.6 now
The original version will run perfect in VPX 10.7, 10.6 lacks the audio support for multi channel, and i did not realize that.

I guess he is trying to say that the flippers on the original table don't have that more modern 'Gottlieb' text.

It has FSS yes
Set it to which ever you want to play it in, FSS DT or FS

Sie sprechen Deutsch, ich verstehe
vielleicht?

Simple solution
Do not like the flippers?

Drag them off the table.
The set the ones under them to visible, materials plastic white / rubber red, no texture.

I tried to shoot a video but run in some problems. The ball keeps oddly shaped no matter what setting I use, also I only get mech sounds. (I tried the option in the script). I tried Borgdog's vpx version but his version has the electronic sounds.

Running latest 10.7 beta.

Don't use the 10.7. There are too many bugs and there are no tables, that use the new version. So stay at 10.6.

The table works very good for me. The physics are great. The only thing I changed, is the wall441. The ball jumps, when he reach the left flipper.

Here are my two wheels for this table.

As always you find my wheels in my MEGA-account:

In video settings, under ball aspect ration for stretched tables

Do you have Dont stretch or cabinet anti stretch ball on?

in the Zip there is a 10.6 table version and a 10.7 version
the only difference being the type of audio file.
Tell me if you have sound in the 10.6 version or not

When I start the 10.6 version the sound works fine but it starts in FSS. The table and ball looks and plays ok.

But when I change to FS the flippers are facing upside down. I can change the pov to normal proportions but then the ball is shaping weird in the upper playfield.

Like I said I tried all ball options, stretch, antistretch, no stretch but it's not changing.

Are you running VPX 10.6 or VPX 10.7? Not the table, i mean VPX itself.

If you are running VPX 10.7 build 4291, do me a favor
Load the 10.7 version of the table up in the editor

click on table and open the sound manager
Pick all 6 SF chimes sounds (you can pick them all at once and it will set them all at once)

Set sound location to table, set volume level to 0.00
Tell me, do you suddenly hear bells in 10.7 version of table IN VPX 10.7 EXE?
If you do, i can tell you why you cant hear the sound otherwise.

Now, as to this view thing.
can you post a screen shot of these upside down flippers?
Because i can not replicate that in either version of table, under VPX 10.6 exe or 10.7 exe

Also, when you are modifying your POV, are you taking the X and Y scales out of square?
If so, you will get an out of round ball and if you do that, you will have to manually adjust the cabinet out of round feature until you have a round ball.

This is 1 to 1 X/Y scale ratio, table exactly as you downloaded.
Simply picked full screen, then unchecked add FSS space
then unchecked Desktop (and if you save, it will stay that way)

And in VPX, only dont stretch ball is checked

You will notice there is only slight elongation at the very top, which is normal, you'd have to tweak that out with cabinet anti stretch, and fudging with layback and take a happy medium

I can ignore the wrong flippers but they seem oriented incorrectly. I can see the wrong part of the rubbers. From a players perspective you should be seeing the part facing you, not the part facing away from you. Is it the flippers or the pov?

Show me?
post a screenshot

Oh wait...

Do you mean the fact you can see the rubber face of the ball side of the flipper as opposed to the drain side?

that would be FS perspective
You are standing over top of the table, looking down.
And your head is in front of rather than behind the flippers.

Try a layback of about +60 if you wanna pull your head behind the flippers, adjust to what looks bets to you

and may need to add a little inclination to your liking?

it's the POV. (you will need to work with cabinet anti stretch on the ball at 60 layback)

But like i said, if you want different flippers, just drag the gottlieb models off the table
set the VPX flippers under them to material plastic white and rubber to rubber red, image none for both

See?

I was referring to your posted screenshots right above my post. It isn't a big deal, just not what I'm used to seeing when I stand at a pinball machine.

untitled-1_t.jpg

It looks to be POV related so easy to work with. BTW, anything above 1 on x and y scale in your pov is zooming into your rendered image, which is losing resolution like digital zoom instead of optical zoom on a camera. Using your z offset is like using an optical zoom and doesn't lose resolution.

edit: Looks like our posts crossed paths. Yes, just pov related. It's an unusual perspective, at 6' 1" I can't see the other side of the flippers on my real games but to each his own. Just offering collegial feedback.
