Hi community :-)

I'm looking for a way to change pov for vpx tables.

With my small 24 Playfield I have two favorite povs. Zoomed in to the max so the flippers are at the bottom of screen and side walls not visible and the other is viewing the full table even with the arts and effects on the sides.

This could be done by having two pov files and renaming one file to the tables name manually. Does anybody know a "more integrated" way to manage this? Maybe there is already a solution. I could possibly try to have two playlists and script the pinup popper table startup to rename the pov file?

Thanks

No. You have pretty much outlined what can be done to fix your setup. Unfortunately, tables comes in different sizes so my next tip isn't going to help you much. For my vp setup. I've created sub folders under tables like this .... tables\PM5, tables\VP9, tables\VPX and tables\LMN. LMN stands for Loserman. In that folder I use autopov.pov file. One pov to control them all. You could maybe take advantage of this in some way, but, that's about it.

From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.

Thalamus - can you explain the autopov file you are using, how it works, etc? I'd love to have 1 pov that I can use for all tables.

I thought that what I wrote would explain it ? Loserman' table are pretty much from the same period and started off from the same template. So, using one POV for them all is to me a very valid option. Start a Loserman table, fix the POV to how you want it. Then File->Export->Pov. If you save it as autopov (pov will be added as extention) - you end up with a file that is kind of dangerous to leave with all the other tables as once you load a table and this file exists it will always override what you have in the tables. SO, moving it into a dedicated LMN for my case, and moving all Losermans table and backglasses into that folder and I don't need to change any of them. Makes sense now ?

So it's looking like this now  https://youtu.be/6ecxOMr0Ie8

I'm happy with this solution :-)

It's using the pinup popper altmode feature, nailbuster describes here http://www.nailbuste...php?id=alt_mode  and of cause the pov-file feature of vpx.

In the table folder are two pov-files "<table name>_z.pov" for zoomed view and "<table name>_f.pov" for full view. In case of monster bash these are "VP10_Monster Bash2_0_z.pov" and "VP10_Monster Bash2_0_f.pov"

At game details in pinup popper setup there is a field called "Alternate run Modes" - entering "zoomed,full" gives two additional  start options in the wheels table menu "start zoomed" and "start full".

The table start script in pinup popper emulater configuration looks like this now

START "" "[STARTDIR]Launch\VPXSTARTER.exe" 30 10 60 “Visual Pinball Player” 2
cd /d "[DIREMU]"
SET str="[GAMEFULLNAME]"
if "[ALTMODE]"=="zoomed" (
copy /y %str:~0,-5%_z.pov" %str:~0,-5%.pov"
)
if "[ALTMODE]"=="full" (
copy /y %str:~0,-5%_f.pov" %str:~0,-5%.pov"
)
if "[RECMODE]"=="1" (
START /min "" vpinballx.exe "[DIREMU]" -DisableTrueFullscreen -minimized -play "[GAMEFULLNAME]"
) else (
START /min "" vpinballx.exe "[DIREMU]" -minimized -play "[GAMEFULLNAME]"
)

Bevore starting the table, it copies the selected pov file as "<table name>.pov", so vpx will use it.

good stuff.   just a FYI i think you could of just used "[DIRGAME]\[GAMENAME]_z.pov"  instead of those fancy str stuffs ;)

Yes, this makes it much clearer. Feels like I was spending hours of googling for that creepy dos batch string handling stuff, damn ;-)

Thx.

I occasionally start a new table with the F6 option and adjust my POV.  Usually it is just X scale, Y scale and layback.  I've run into an unexpected change.

Last week I installed a new CPU and GPU which allowed me to turn up the quality settings in VPX.  I am able to run VPX at max quality in 4K with no stutter now.  However, I just discovered tonight that the new settings make my POV setting numbers display at microscopic size when overlayed on the playfield.  I guess the full 4K resolution is making VPX font extremely small when displaying it over the top of the playfield!  Luckily I have about memorized which menu options are in what order.  Once I see "x scale" I can feel my way from there.  Just an unexpected byproduct of 4K display resolution.

Yes, but for setting POV I use the 10.7, because in portrait mode the font is moved from the upper right edge to the left down edge. So I can read it.
For playing I use always the 10.6.

Very interesting! I made it in a different way. Due to the many different parameters in the view definitions of the many software artists I customize each new table manually - but with a standardized view for my cab. So I have for each game the screen well filled, true round shapes of the bumper caps, ... in tiny few words: the illusion is perfect. The manual adjustments are for me part of "enjoying" this fantastic hobby.

Again thank you to all software authors, Christian.

Nailbuster has just offer a great solution. He make a exe. With this you can display the infos for the pov on the backglass.
And so it's really big and good to read.
