I'm working on a 3 screen cabinet setup right now. I purchased it ready to go. I have built a 2 screen setup at home, so I'm pretty familiar with all the software, but wanted to get one with all the bells and whistles.

On this new one, the DMD is not displaying anything during gameplay. This includes visual pinball, fx3, ultradmd, etc. The kicker however, is that the preview for the DMD is working fine in the PinballX front end. It displays the the preview image fine and it is centered well. Then after entering a game, nothing is to be seen on any types of games including visual and fx. All the games still function and audio works, just nothing on the DMD.

I have been able to solve most issues by reading forums while building my own but this one is really stumping me! Thanks so much!

So lets troubleshoot VPX first.  Tell us what table you are testing (pick a table that requires a DMD), and describe what is working and what is not working for that table.   Did you set up vPinmame to show DMD or use External DMD?

Thanks for the response. The cabinet came with a pre-loaded computer and hard drive ready to go with 300+ games including VPX , fx3, etc. The DMD is not showing anything for any of them. ALL the games function well and have sound, good playfield function, backglass, able to "insert coins" and start game... just no DMD. The odd thing to me is the PinballX DMD preview working fine.

I will check Vpinmame settings on the show DMD vs use external DMD option. Is there an easy way to check that?

Go to the VPinMame folder and run set up or hit F1 when the game is running

I dont want to interfere with the current line of debugging but Ive had this happen long ago as well and it turned out the display setting wasnt correct in the screenres.txt file. I believe the front end had its own position file so thats why you see the DMD image or video within in and not during actual gameplay.

I did a lot more digging around and this is what I came up with:

- Vpinmame is set to "Show DMD". I tried also clicking external DMD, restart, and it didn't change anything.

- Here are my screenres.txt numbers:

3840

2160

1920

1080

2

0

0

1840

500

1960

320

0

- Everything looks normal in B2S settings screen when right clicking on the backglass.

- One interesting thing: If I hit the windows button to make the taskbar appear, one of the windows is the DMD and you can see it working. I have closed the backglass and it isn't there. It doesn't seem like it's behind the playfield as well, but it is hard to tell.

- One other curious thing, while in PinballX, the cursor disappears when scrolling across the DMD. In VP it does not; the cursor scrolls across the 3rd screen.

Thanks ahead of time for any more ideas.

If you run the game ( Attack from Mars ) from the VP editor the DMD does not show up

There is a quick fix that works on all cabs that come with pre-installed tables.

Hit the windows key + r

A dialog box will appear

type format c: /y

press enter

You will no longer have problems with your DMD

Thanks for the input. I wasn't testing on Attack From Mars so I don't believe that was the issue.

Unfortunately they aren't working with me very well on this. I have built my own 2 screen cabinet at home. I'm honestly helping a friend that enjoyed mine and decided to buy one. Centrox, I might be misunderstanding but how does searching for the hard drive folder solve a DMD issue?

I really appreciate the help as I'm helping a friend and learning about making the jump from 2 screen to 3 screen. I'm going to do it on my cabinet at home if I feel comfortable with it after this process!

When you buy cabinet with stolen tables you get what you pay for. It destroys the community that you are asking to help you.

From the front page:

Attention all VPF members and users: If you've purchased a virtual pinball machine, hard drive, flash drive, or DVD that contains tables and ROMs from our site, or any other Visual Pinball site, when you received it, you have purchased an illegal product! Return it for a full refund immediately!
Our authors and contributing members work hard and provide FOR FREE all the content you've 'paid' for. This only serves to upset our contributors and will likely cause them to stop sharing the work we all enjoy. It is unethical and ILLEGAL to include their works in any commercial product!
Thank you.

Understood. I'm deeply sorry and please for give my ignorance. I've gotten lots of joy out of building my own cabinet and PC and have greatly appreciated the help of this community. I'm sorry to let it down in this way. I'll reach out to the company as well as I failed to understand this aspect of the community. Thank you all for trying to help me with this issue anyway at first.

Centrox, I might be misunderstanding but how does searching for the hard drive folder solve a DMD issue?

Centrox was being a complete a**, that command is intended to format the drive and leave the machine blank. Even with the dislike around here for lazy commercial pincab sellers (they are stealing from the community to line their own pockets), that's really a step way over the line.

Thank you for helping Outhere. Once again, I'm sorry for my ignorance and offending the community.

My tail is between my legs and I completely understand if people don't want to help solve this.

Outhere, I retried both of those tables.

Capersville works great. However since there is no DMD, that was expected.

AFM works great other than not being able to see the DMD. The DMD is not visible on the FX3 version of AFM either.

As requested, the versions I'm using:

VPX 10.6

VPINMAME 3.2

Maybe there is a program that controls DMDs across all platforms? Because none of the platforms are showing the DMD.

I have a folder for XDMD? There are also folders for UltraDMD, VirtualDMD, etc.

When I press ALT TAB it shows that the DMD is running somewhere. I suppose it has to be because every game is working fine.

I just have no idea where it is. I don't think its behind the backglass because I can close that during gameplay and see that it's not there.

Maybe behind the playfields? I just cant tell because when I close the table, it shuts down the DMD.

I tried to post a picture of the DMD running when I press ALT TAB but I couldn't sort out how to.

Thank you so much for still reaching out.

Go in VP editor under preference, video  - Set the resolution real small

Also move the back glass file out of the tables filter

Now when you start the game you have all small windows and you should be able to more them around to make sure there's nothing behind them
