File Name: Pinball Champ '82 (Zaccaria 1982) Desktop VP9.9

File Submitter: mfuegemann

File Submitted: 16 Oct 2014

File Category: VPinMAME 9.x Recreations

Author(s): mfuegemann
Manufacturer: Zaccaria
Year: 1982
ROM: Link to ROM
Permission to MOD?: Yes, without approval

This is Pinball Champ '82 by Zaccaria, Full Screen edition.

For this pin I used the playfield, uploaded by TAB. Thank You for Your work, TAB!
Romuluz provided me with high res plastics images and all sorts of photos and documentation. Kellogs too sent me some images of his real pin, so that I was able to recreate the apron and improve some plastics.

Thanks to Destruk and Luvthatapex, who created the previous VP8/VP9 versions. The code of this tables helped me to understand the flipper functionality used by Zaccaria.

The backdrop image has been provided by Bolt. Thank You!

Have fun and please use the support topic to post any findings and suggestions.

Played about 50 games and never advanced the multiplier. The white targets are hardly hit and if I do so there are no lights in the tunnel.

Here a nice video of the ASK simulation of the same table :

Hi Zorgar,

sorry to disappoint You. The real table has none of the "simulated" features. There is no flashing GI when the drop banks are hit and also the tunnel lights get not lighted from top to bottom for target hits, as far as I can see.

Maybe ASK mixed up some Pinball Champ 83 features or introduce effects of their own - their simulated table is good looking even so.

By the way, all the lamps are ROM controlled and the target hits are recorderd correct. The initial spinner bug has already been fixed with the first update.

I will lighten the color of the lit tunnel rollover switch lamps to make them more visible though.

Regards

Michael

I think this VP recreation is much more accurate and true to the real machine than the ASK version.

Which is strange because they have access to the probably best Zaccaria collection in the world: Laszlo Petrik's in Hungary.

(I was at his place and saw it with my own eyes; it is amazing to see a complete room full of all the Zaccaria tables of yore :))

But based on the above video, several little things are not like on a real machine which this recreation fairly faithfully reproduces. Sound samples are not true to the real machine or missing and also the way the upper drop targets move is more close to the real thing in the VP version. I could go on :)

So again, Michael: great work.

Hi,

I must admit that from a player's point of view the additions are quite reasonable. I like the flashing GI on drop target hits and I would have wished for a lane change option on Earth Wind Fire, but the tables are as they come.

And I think we love them with all their faults and (from nowadays view) missed opportunities.

I always marvel at my 1975 Gottlieb Fast Draw and think "this was the technology, some guys flew to the moon with".

I wasn't sure with the ASK version (never trust virtual pinball ;)) but there is no playing video of the real table. But then how do I get the tunnel lights or just the multiplier? Do you get up the multiplier? The instruction card says: Shoot the white targets.

German instruction:

WEISSE NUMERIERTE FESTZIELE

Jedes Ziel gibt 50.000 Punkte.

>"this was the technology, some guys flew to the moon with"

SS technology was very expensive but existed. Fast Draw is just electro-mechanical. No EM Apollo recreation so far.

Hi fripounet,

congratulation on this skill shot! I changed the wire a bit to avoid the narrow space. This will be fixed in version 1.3

Michael

looks great.  If you need any info about this game, i've owned this game for awhile.  Can answer any questions you may have.  I do own lots of zaccarias.  Currently own 8 zac machines.  Pinball champ I no longer own, but will rebuy back someday.  I havn't looked, yet, but is there a FS B2S version of this?
