File Name: The Shadow VP9.2 FS Night MOD

File Submitter: teppotee

File Submitted: 31 Aug 2013

File Category: VP 9.x MOD Cabinet Tables (FULL SCREEN)

Author(s): GRONI (original version)
teppotee (night mod)
Aaron James (night mod)
Manufacturer: Bally
Year: 1994
Permission to MOD?: Yes, with approval

This is a Night MOD (+an all around update) of Groni's The Shadow table! Released (of course) with hi's permission.

This has been a WIP project for quite a long time so I will try to remember what has been updated.

Changes and thanks section:
- New lighting and GI
- New metal ramp textures
- New wire ramp textures (I think these are from LH's Indy so thanks must go there!)
- New Flasher effects (additional alpha-bi / images from JP's table. Thanks!) Quite a light show btw.!
- Flipper Tap code by jimmyfingers added (thanks!)
- B2B collision sounds
- Physics updated by Aaron James (thanks!)
- New apron by Aaron James (thanks!)
- New "Additional alpha GI" with user selectable color (blue, white, off, screenshot with blue as an example)
- Few scripted GI additions
- Ramp diverters reworked as alpha ramps
- Small visual tweaks all around
+ any other stuff I may have forgotten. And like always... if I have used something that I forgot to give credit for -> drop me a remainder and I will fix the notes.

NOTE! You can select the lower PF alpha GI lighting from the script (line 71):
Dim alphaGIColor:alphaGIcolor = 2 ' 0=OFF, 1=WHITE, 2=BLUE

NOTE part II: using VP916 rev 628 or higher strongly recommended! (for the alpha flasher effects and best performance). Without this version I get stutter on this table.

This is fantastic!!! Runs great on my system using 628.

What a beauty. I am really liking these lighting effects. Makes VP seem like a new engine!

Cheers,

Maceman

I believe I mentioned this before in your beta thread of this table. Again the Kicker that Start Khan multiball, scene bonus, etc does not kick out to the slide flipper it still aims bellow it. Also I feel like the shadow loop shot is to easy to make and is shot way to late off the flipper compared to the real game. The art work does not repesent where the ball is feed to or how it travels in the game regarding the shadow loop and the kicker near it.

you can see at 10:27 in and 12:05 when he hits that kicker the ball is returned quite high on the upper flipper. At 13:00 bowen does a game of shadow loops and he even mentions that the shadow loop is EXTREMELY early. you can see him flipping the ball when the ball is above that yellow stripe in the art work. Id love to see these innaccuracys cleaned up on this table because your work is good just not quite 100% gameplay accurate. I know these seem like small things but in the end change the entire feel of this table.

Sorry to hear about the graphics problems. Maybe something that should be reported to VP 916 bugs section? I have nVidia card and I have also had the same problem very very very rarely and only for 1-2 seconds at a time. So it has not been a real issue. I can play for hours without it happening. It seems like the alpha property of the ramp is not working at all.

Do you get this problem all the time? Can you play the table without the additional lighting effects (setting alphaGIcolor = 0)?

Zero99: I will check at least the kicker. Not sure if I can fix the flipper (sorry... not very good at tweaking physics... that's why I had Aaron to help with this table and I think he did a great job).

bolt: I can try a quick desktop conversion... if it's not a lot of work I will release it as well. Not sure though... I have done all the changes just for FS without thinking how those will look in desktop mode.

The problem of the lights is always present and with alphaGIcolor = 0 disappears.
I have not reported the problem before because I need more horsepower to play without stuttering, for my PC this table is unplayable.

Thanks

Max

I remember having the same problem with Tommy, but fixed it with the "Region optimization" option under the video settings.

Hope it helps.
