EDIT:

5f0709-1401210442.jpg

that's how it turned out to be in 2014!

started with a nice old empty Sega Batman Forever cab that i found at an "Austrian online selling platform" and which i picked up near Vienna later

had to order some new stern legs for the front because they should be shorter than the ones in the back to get the table level right

filled it with a 42 inch LG lcd TV for the playfield and a 29 inch TV for the backglass

i ordered a buttonset from virtuapin and an I-PAC 2 from ultimarc to get those buttons connected

bougth a new "sega/data east" coindoor from pinballlife and mounted some coinmechs from suzo-happ

russ hooked me up with a PinDMD2 and i connected it to a 16x16 blocks real DMD from PinLED

also bought a new playfield glass because the old was broken and built a custom backglass cover (original was missing)

it is a childhood dream come true

thank you very much !

mike

and this is how the thread started 20th of march 2013.....

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

450_BATMAN_Forever_logo.jpg

First of all thanks for all the inspiration i found on this site !

It always loved pinball machines but never had the money to actually buy one, neither do i have the know how to maintain such a machine :(

so i found the idea of a virtual pinball as the best solution for me .

A few weeks ago I was finally able to get my hands on an empty batman forever pinball table from Sega - 1995 !

So far I cleaned all the rest that was left behind out of the cabinet and the backbox and cleaned the outside - 18years of dirt ;-P

The body was in good shape, I only had to fix 2 edges of broken wood, one in the front, the other one at the back of the cabinet - piece of cake

(you can see it on the picture of the front , there is a little black triangular shape of wood in black on the left bottom, have to paint it later to match, had to chisel the damaged part out an put some new wood in)

Then i ordered a buttonset from virtuapin and a new data east coindoor because my coindoor was missing all coinmech holders :(

after that i got a 29" TV for the backbox and a 15" monitor for the dmd.

I will get a 42" TV for the playfield which is on the way :D

last weekend i worked on the backbox, fitting the displays and i think it went pretty good for my first try ;-)

enclosed some pictures of my progress so far !

i have one question : how deep into the cabinet would you put the TV ? i am a little doubtful about this ... and if the cabinet was lying flat on the floor without legs would you place the tv horizontal ? or what angle would be the best..

This is really going to come down to personal preference.  I've seen many different configs on this site.  In my cab I have the monitor tilted slightly TOWARD the player (monitor is a few inches higher near the backglass, and  a few inches lower at the flippers) .  For me this gives the perfect viewing angle.  At the closest point (near the backglass) I still maintained about 2 inches of clearance between the monitor and the playfield glass.

What 42" fits in there?

Edit... Ohhh it is a wide body cab. I didn't realize that Sega made a wide body. Great score. Good luck with your build!!!

Anyone planning on a recreation of that table for VP9? :D

thanks i will do my best !

@dyopp : i guess i will try different tv positions and angles to find out what works best for me !

Yes it is a widebody and >>YES<< someone please release a FS cab version of batmanforever so I can have a real Virtual Batman Forever Pinball ! :D - hahah ! that would be awesome ;-)

atm i am looking for good sound for little money for the backbox and inside the cabinet / 2 soundcards in my PC ( TVs killed my budget a little bit , the 29" and the 42" cost me about 600€ all together... outch! )

my PC is rocking the 3 screens without a problem , thats fantastic :)

i am looking forward to working on my pinball again but have to work the next 2 weekends .... but anticipation is half the pleasure , am i right ?

thanks for all your comments!

greetings from austria

when you say sound do you mean  a sound card or speakers?

any decent auto speakers will work okay for a cab

as long as they fit

and yes that is a widebody as the IPDB says

http://www.ipdb.org/...earchtype=quick
and the original one has an Easter egg too

After a certain number of slingshot hits, after a 3 second lag,

a giant bat will appear on the screen and screech at you.

If you hit the trigger then you will get 50M extra points.

http://hem.bredband....Easter.htm#3593

so will the vp version also have the easter egg built into it?

yes i have onboard and a seperate soundblaster

so one fires the rom based music and stuff from the backbox and the other soundcard can play all cabinet sound from inside the cabinet ! cool feature :) !!

just checking for some pc sound speakers with good price-performance ratio, i will use an old boombox with woofers for the cabinet sound

another question :

i have an asus p8-z77v board and a gtx 650ti graphic card

is it a good idea to run the GTX together with the onboard graphics (there is an option in the boards bios where i can activate the onboard graphics even if the gtx is connected) ?

... my idea was that the onboard chip could run the dmd screen or something like that

or does this slow down the 650ti ...

any ideas ?

That is how I have my cab running, my gtx460 running my playfield and backglass and the onboard intel hd4000 running the dmd.

I just had to make sure the primary video device was set to use the onboard (igfx) first so it would work when Windows booted up

This is also going to be a nice pin, looking good, so you have fitted the playfield already ?

IGP & PCIe together normally works fine, case of trial and error, however i had some major

latency issues between the two, but that was specific for my setup, sure you'll be just fine.

Ohh and, more pictures please, hehehehe

update :

1527f2-1365402323.jpg

test if the screen is still working , behind you can see the baseplate on whicht it was mounted, and in the back you can see the cabinet with the rails for the screen unit

b013ff-1365402375.jpg

looking good :D

d1eef2-1365402404.jpg

now all we need is a proper frame to cover the ugly silver monitor bezel and joints

addb34-1365402421.jpg

that's what i came up with .... still needs a finishing black paint ;-)

887d72-1365402438.jpg84f604-1365402632.jpg

to get a preview of what it will look like when finished I put on the backbox and i have to say : " I like it ! "

what do you think ?

still missing buttons, door, wiring and stuff ....but now i have this bad-boy in my livingroom and I can work on it whenever i have some time left ;-)

another question ....

atm the pinball is slightly tilted to the front

so the coindoor is not positioned a 100% vertical causing the coinmechs to decline my good money :(

if i hold the coinmechs upright all coins are acceped...

i also noticed that thread of the front leg levelers are neary out to the max and the threads of the legs in the back are all the way in.... (should i get rid of the back leg levelers )

should the front of the pinball be as upright as possible ?

or how is it done right ?

edit:

batman forever manual : the cabinet is designed to give a 6,5 ° pitch with the leg levelers turned all the way in ... I see

http://www.ipdb.org/...ever_Manual.pdf on page 3 i can see the cab is tilted to the front

so, can i adjust the coinmechs in any way ?... i have some brand new suzo happ coinmechs

funny thing : when the coindoor is opened (like in the picture)  it seems to level straight and my 50€ cent and 1€ coinmech both work perfect

when i close the door only the 50cent works but the 1€ coinmecht refuses to take any coin :(

b1e420-1365575676.jpg42303900.jpg

is there a possibility to tweak this mech to work in a slightly tilted to the front mountingposition ?

Damn that looks sharp!  I am jealous!  Gonna check craigslist now and try to get lucky!  Could save some big coin finding a widebody cab that someone doesn't want.
