File Name: Junk Yard (FS VP9.9)

File Submitter: mfuegemann

File Submitted: 21 Oct 2012

File Category: VP 9.x MOD Cabinet Tables (FULL SCREEN)

Author(s): destruk,
Fuzzel,
mfuegemann
Manufacturer: Williams
Year: 1996
ROM: Link to ROM
Permission to MOD?: No

This is the full screen conversion of destruks VP8 table. I reworked the graphics, added some playfield details and changed the table layout where I found it necessary.
Thanks to destruk for his original work and the permission to mod this table.

To the download file I added the necessary Hyperpin files (backglass, playfield, wheel image and xml section).

Have fun

Michael

I've tried playing about 20-30 games on this, and i haven't been able to play one full game yet without the ball getting stuck and never coming back out ... :(
I guess i'll have to wait for version 2.0
Is anyone else have such serious problems with it?

Yes. If the ball goes in the Sewer, odds are its gone forever.
But I am glad to have version of some kind to play in my cabinet. Even if it is not yet ready for prime time.
Also the game seems to be playing slow, and I am not sure why. When the ball starts bouncing around the flipper area it is moving in slow motion.
But it is not just that. I have played a real Junkyard a lot and the sounds and music seem to be a bit slow as well.
It's not horribly bad or anything, just slow enough for me to notice it.
Anyone else notice this, or is it just me.? :)

And thanks again for the release and nice work so far.

Yea, it's a little rough, but I'm sure they'll be many tweaks along the way :-)

Hi,

I have stutters on my development PC too with an ATI graphics card. My cabinet has an older nVidia card and plays very well even during crane hits and multiball.
The problem with the vanishing ball is quite strange, as the rewards for hitting the holes are awarded but the ball after that does not pop out again - so it is not stuck. I think it has something to do with animations or sounds been played.

Regards

Michael

Ok, I managed to get the file. Thanks :)

BTW, If a ball gets lost on this table as with the old VP8 version of Junkyard you can press the L key to release the ball. i just tried it on this version and it still works.

Thanks for creating a FS version of this great game. I had a ball disappear on my 1st game, ahhh, but was a blast to play. Thanks. Maybe some tweaks are needed, as it seems a little floaty and ball crane animation seems a little slow.

Update 1.1 is about to be uploaded. I think, I have found a workaround for the vanishing balls.
The stutters are not related to the graphics card manufacturer, as I just installed a nvidia 560 GTX on my development rig and received no improvements. So, sorry AMD, maybe it is related to Win7-64 and/or CPU kernels.

I did a mod of this several months ago for Desktop if anyone wants to play with it and update further. I haven't done any graphics as there were no resources, but as far as i can tell the ball doesn't get stuck at all on my mod from vp8. Not sure why this one isn't working and haven't had time to look into it.
Just wanted you guys to know that we have a working script i believe.
Maceman

I like the graphic mod you did.... this snap below shows the improvement you have made so far which is great. Also, if you look at my floating ball, this is how it should look i believe.
Posted Image

EDIT: looking at the script i am using, i must admit i don't see much different in the kicker area, so i am not sure why mine isn't getting stuck to be honest... but at any rate, the mod is available for comparison if you want it!! Or not :)

Hi maceman,

the wrecking ball is Bubleheads wrecking ball script. Unfortunately I was not able to contact him for permission. I think, I will rebuild it in a similiar way.
If my update is not working, I will go through Your script. My version 1.0 had not so many ball losses during my testing phase, so I was a bit astonished by the error reports.

Michael

ok, just the speed/movement ball is still to improve, as it doesnt feel real as it, and than its too easy to control (surelly to slow in fact)
played just 1 game and scored 68M with 2 shoots away from outer space...
