Hi everyone,  :)

I have always enjoyed playing pinball and recently discovered VPForums.org, mjrnet.org, virtuapin.net and plenty of Youtube videos and decided to go for a Pincab instead of purchasing a real secondhand pinball.

My favorite pinball machines are:

  • Creature From The Black Lagoon
  • Whitewater
  • Tales of the Arabian Nights
  • The Addams Family
  • Batman 66
  • Star Trek - The Next Generation
  • The Machine Bride of Pinbot
  • ...

I feel that I can accomplish this DIY project as I studied electronics and software development. I am currently working in automation. I previously made a car simulator with feedback like base shaker, vibration motors, fan… all this connected to an arduino and triggered from live events from the game.

I think I am ready to start my Pincab. I read a lot and decided I will go with a 3 screens widebody cabinet.

Computer:

Screens:

Sound and SSF:

Speakers: 2x RS75-4 3" Reference Full-Range Driver 4 Ohm

Subwoofer: 1x DCS165-4 6-1/2" Classic Subwoofer 4 Ohm

Transducer: 4x HDN-8 Weatherproof Sound Exciter Transducer

Bass Shaker 2x BST-1 High Power Pro Tactile Bass Shaker 50 Watts

Amplifier: 3x MakerHawk 2.1 TPA3116D2 2X50W+100W

Cabinet:

Body: WPC-style Widebody (to welcome a 4K 42" monitor)

Backbox: LCD Ultra-Wide (to welcome a 2K 32" monitor)

Speaker Panel: Standard/Widebody LCD (to welcome a HD 15.6" monitor)

(Not ordered yet...)

This is the beginning of my journey...

I will post my progress and pictures of my build as well as asking advice from the community.

So, here we go...

So far, I ordered the components to build the computer.

I started to receive some parts; I should have everything by next Thursday.

My original plan was the AMD Ryzen 5 5600X and the RTX 3060 ti to drive a 4K playfield, 2K backglass and HD LCD DMD.

I thought it might be limit especially at 120Hz or 144Hz...so I used a botleneck calculator for this mix at 4K and in fact, the bottleneck was the GPU.

So, I tested with different models: 3060 vs 3060 ti vs 3070 vs 3070 ti vs 3080 vs 3080 ti

I was going for Razen 5 5600X with RTX 3080 but the 3080 was over $900...

I then looked at the 40xx series and found a 4070 ti at $799 and it has 12Go instead of 10Go.

Running the bottleneck calculator again I ended-up selection the Razen 7 5800X for $23 more ($178 vs $155)

So ADM Razen 7 5800X and MSI RTX 4070 ti it is  :yahoo:

Hi Maniv

Welcome onboard. You are in for a very fun ride -I am looking forward to follow your adventure if you keep posting.

I starter a build myself back in October, so can vouch for it being a really fun hobby. Ask away if you have any question. There are a lot of nice knowledgeable people in here to help you along.

Cheers,
Jesper

Thank you!

What version of Windows 11 would you suggest for a computer that will be dedicated to my Pincab?

Windows 11 64bits Home or Pro?

Any advantage of either one?

Another question is about the playfield screen. My graphic card should be able to run a 43" 4K at 12Hz, but I am still unsure which screen to buy.

I hesitate between those 6 screens:

ASUS ROG Strix XG438Q

43”

4K

120Hz

Monitor

$699

HDMI 2.0Display port 1.4G Sync, HDR 600, 1ms

ASUS ROG Swift PG43UQ

43”

4K

144Hz

Monitor

$927

HDMI 2.1Display port 1.4G Sync, HDR 1000, 1ms

iiyama G-Master G4380UHSU-B1

43"

4K

144Hz

Monitor

$759

HDMI 2.0Display port 1.4G Sync, HDR 1400, 0.4ms

AORUS FV43U

43"

4K

144Hz

Monitor

$700

HDMI 2.1Display port 1.4G Sync, HDR 1000, 1ms

LG Class C2 OLED evo

42"

4K

120Hz

Smart TV

$897

HDMI 2.1Display port 1.4G Sync, HDR 10, 5ms (1.5 with Boost Mode on)

Sony X85K

43"

4K

120Hz

Smart TV

$648

HDMI 2.1Display port 1.4G Sync, HDR 107.2ms

Any feedback about those screens?

Do you have them in your Pincab?

Any burn-in with OLED technology?

Any angle view issues with non-OLED screens?

Any issue to turn on/off TV (compare to monitors)?

For a dedicated pincab rig, there is not much reason to go for the Pro.

https://www.xda-deve...windows-11-pro/

On the other hand, you can get a legit Windows 10 Pro key for about 6 bucks, install that and then it will be automatically updated to Windows 11, so...

Thank you Htamas, that make sense and confirm what I read.

I was just not sure if VPX (64bit) or Pinup Popper works better with either one.

I will go with Win 11 Pro !

Playfield-wise, this sounds pretty good to me: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WDLV344/

I don't have any of the listed screens, but it appears to tick all the boxes needed for a good pincab playfield, for a decent price.

I would definitely go with a monitor over a TV.

If within your budget the LG C2 OLED will provide the best visuals. Check out some of the LG C2 related videos made by member @lukpcn https://www.youtube....h?v=s2u962S1aQA

You may want to avoid the Aorus Display - the bezel is HUGE and not symmetrical, making it difficult to install. Also requires that you route the inside of a Widebody cab to clear the power switch that sticks out of the bottom of the unit.

Just FYI - I'm using an LG 42" C2 OLED at 120hz in my Widebody cab - and am happy with it.

I took note of all your comments, thank you!

That video Robertms helped me to decide.

I bought the LG C2 OLED and it looks AMAZING !!!  :yahoo:

I took the extension guaranty that covers the burn-in in case.

For me it looks great out of the box, but did you do any specific settings on the TV?

Are you switching the power off from the outlet when the PC turns off?

It is not recommended on OLED screen.

No specific settings - it just looks great. I leave it plugged in to 110VAC and use the remote to turn it on/off.

Here's a link that has settings for pinball:

So far, I got:

1. The PC:

- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
- Motherboard: MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk MAX WiFi Gaming Motherboard
- CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15, Premium CPU Cooler
- GPU: GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 12GB
- Memory: G.Skill RipJaws V Series 16GB
- HD: SAMSUNG 980 PRO SSD 1TB
- PSU: Cooler Master V750 Gold V2

2. The screens:

- Playfield: LG 42" C2 OLED 4K 120Hz
- Backglass: LG C2 32" 2K 75Hz IPS
- Full DMDSCREENARAMA 15.6" HD 60Hz IPS

3. The Sound and SSF:

- Amplifier: MakerHawk 2.1 TPA3116D2 2X50W+100W (x3)

- Speakers: Dayton RS75-4 3" Full-Range 4 Ohm (x2)

- Subwoofer: Dayton DCS165-4 6-1/2" 4 Ohm (x1)

- Transducer: Dayton HDN-8 (x4)

- Bass Shaker: Dayton BST-1 (x2)

I am looking for the next steps that will be:

4. The cabinet:

- I originally thought about a widebody flat pack from virtuapin.net but I worry that the plunger might by on the way of the screen preventing it to start right at the lock bar. I don't mind moving it a little down.

- Also, a custom build will allow me to reduce the gap on both sides of the screen as the TV in only 42".

5. The toys:

Most from PinballLife:

- Buttons: Clear Push Button (x5)

                 PAL Nuts (x5)

                 Leaf Switch (x5)

                 Holder (x5)
- Plunger: Williams/Bally Ball Shooter Assembly

- Flippers: Full Flipper Assembly (x2)

- Slingshots: Slingshot Assembly (x2)

- Bumpers: Williams/Bally Pop Bumper Assembly (x3)

- Shaker: Shaker Motor Kit

- Knocker: Knocker Kit Assembly

- Meg: Window Motor

(No contactors or solenoids)

6. Control cards:

All the PCB bords from Arnoz (the French guy)...I am French too  ;)

- KL25Z

- RigMaster

- MX Buttons (x5)

- Potar

- The Brain

- Mollusk

- Mos8

- Mos'Light

- Flash25 (x5)

- DTG Strop (x2)

- Teensy

- TeenCab

- VoltBoard

- BackBoard Panel (x9)

- La Nettoyeuse (x8)

- ...

Very nice so far, this is turning out to be quite a premium cab  ;) You should link to a google spreadsheet tracking your expenses. I'm sure many members (including myself) are curious to see an updated summary of costs associated with this level of a build.
