you dont need the 64bit
it would only be used if you ran 64bit vpx, b2s and vpinmame

I've heard that before, so I'm aware. I did it to make sure everything had a green checkmark.

64 bit vs 32 bit versions. Can someone remind me please what the general guideline is, stay with 32 ? or synchronize Freezy/Flex/DMDExt to all run 64 bit versions? I know there is a trick to it and preferred practice on all that.

I'm running without issue:

1) Flex v1.8

2) DmdExt v1.9 (32 Bit Version) but I place the 64 and 32 bit DmdDevice.dlls in the same folder together so I can tell which one it is really executing. FLEX seems to notice bot versions are present.

Right now, stick with 32 bit, since Visual Pinball itself is still only compiled in 32 bit for distribution because of something with one of the Stern architectures.

The at91jit does not work right
and it provides the high speed real time timing that some ROMs need to work right.
With out it, the rom can lag behind, might be only the DMD gets out of sync, could be the entire table starts to get out of whack and eventually crashes

That is not to say that it is all crap though.
On all EM and Romless tables, it works fine
It does nothing better than 32bit, but it works fine

And on ROMs that do not need at91jit, it also works fine, but again does not presently do anything better than 32bit

Nothing VPX presently does exceeds the capabilities and efficiency of 32bit

Maybe some day with Visual Pinball XI LOL

I know I'm late to the game, but I just saw I needed to have this FlexDMD installed to run The Goonies table. From reading the description, I was impressed!  A replacement for UltraDMD is welcomed! (I have had some trouble in the past getting UltraDMD working right - ie. no virtual DMD showing up etc)

Anyway, thank you for creating this project. After I installed and tested, I tried a few UltraDMD tables and its working well.

I’ve also just downloaded Flexdmd for the first time. I see in the download that there is a script folder with 3 sub folders. Pinball Y, one called Tables..can’t think of the third.  Question about those scripts…where do I place them?  In with all the other basic scripts?  Thanks

I believe those are table scripts
they aren't needed anymore

Sorry to come late to this thread but I have a slightly different problem.  I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit and tried to install. Flex DMD.  I get the two Flex and DMDtext files matching green but when I hit register I get and error that the program has stopped working and need to close out.  Nothing I do can get past it.  I am wondering if I have some gremlins in my registry.  I can't get any UltraDMD or FlexDMD games working:(

At this point I almost want to do a fresh windows install but it would take forever to get everything back up and running in my cab.

Any thoughts would be most welcome.

Cheers,

Nos

@hos_nos : I would seriously consider to reinstall my machine to 64 bit instead of 32. It seems like the archive for FlexDMD isn't compiled and require 64bit, but, if you've got more then a 4 GB stick in your machine; you won't be able to take advantage of your memory in the same way a 64 bit OS will.

The installer urges ( FlexDMDUI ) to install both the 32 and 64 bit version of the "dmddevice" - reason ? Let's say you want to use PinballY frontend. Then you can take advantage of running the frontend in pure 64 bit, have much more room for the frontend to play videos/music etc ... and run dmddevice in 64 bit while browsing the tables.

Then, when the game is launched, vpx being a 32bit app, db2s 32bit etc, will start the table and the 32bit version of the dmddevice.dll. With 32bit, you will have a limit of approx 4G, with a 64bit OS it can make chuncks of 4G ( well, the exact number is a bit lower in fact - a google search should tell you the exact number) where each app can address their own space. So, basically, with 16G mem you can have 4 * 32bit apps all having 4G mem avail. FAR FAR from your current limit.

64bit os can run 32bit apps without any problems, the other way around isn't possible.

Unfortunately, you have something under the hood (that isnt flex DMD) going wrong if the flexDMDUI simply keeps crashing

are you also running win7 32 bit?

I have successfully installed FlexDMD and it works- as long as I start VPX and tables in non exclusive fullscreen mode.

As soon as I enable true full screen, FlexDMD steels focus and I have to manually switch to VPX Player.

Btw regardless, if I start a table from PBY or from VPX directly. Is there a trick?

Hi Everyone,

Flex DMD is great, so much better than Ultra DMD in so many ways. Thank you for making an alternative, it works beautifully.  All tables worked automatically when I switched except for one, when trying to run it says that Ultra DMD does not exist so no graphics will be Displayed on it, so I get no score.  I completely deleted UltraDMD, are there tables that require it or iss there something in the script that I have to change in this particular table?

Also, I am having trouble getting to the script in VPX10.7, it is different.  I cannot edit it when the table is on, but it disappears when I close the table. Is there a way to keep the script open after closing the table like in previous versions?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Daveed

2 things you should tell us which table and as far as the 10.7 problem you should post that in a new topic or put it in the 10.7 release topic

Got it.  I will put the script question in that category.

The table is STLE.  I didn't know until today, but it is also happening with Metal Slug.  This was happening before I upgraded to 10.7, if that makes any difference.

Thanks for you help.

I have the same problem.  I might look into using a AHK script or something to ALT-TAB after the table loads, but not sure if that will work.  Otherwise I'll need to go back to UltraDMD for my front end to launch them properly.
