Finally.. After almost 6.5 years.. :shok:

VPX and VPVR are now really 100% reunited!!

https://www.vpforums...&showfile=11572

(And 2 years since the last public/final release, too.. :/ )

Started by the more than fearless Caligula_ as a fork of VPX 10.6, adding full OpenGL and VR support.

Then later-on continued with additional coding help from Rawnei.

Helped to stay alive by DJRobX and me, going through the pain of merging things back and forth between the two projects to have them stay in sync (while fuzzel also redid the whole UI for 10.7 in the meantime!).

Then roughly three years ago, vbousquet jumped in to even more fearlessly turn everything inside out once more (actually more like multiple times by now, depending on how one counts ;)) while also modernizing the render engine, to be able to finally merge the two together into one unified codebase again (and adding tons of new features on the way :)).

And not to forget jsm174 who helped all over the place during the merge and making things fall into place (who in the meantime also did loads and loads of stuff to port/make 10.8.1 beta run on pretty much every interesting platform :) and add/convert/reimplement things left and right, incl. free apps on the popular mobile stores or helping it run in Batocera)

While this 10.8 release may seem not THAT spectacular from the outside if you 'only' play tables (unless you use VR, and compared to 10.7), internally at least as much happened as back then when we moved from VP9.2 (DX7) to VP9.9 (DX9) and then to VP9PhysMod.

So we're basically now all set to move forward, like we did with VP10 back then.

Still, the new features and fixes are too much to list here, so check:

https://github.com/v...t/Changelog.txt

https://github.com/v...log_Scripts.txt

https://github.com/v...ndReference.txt

A ton of things to aid table creators (e.g. via Live UI editing), make table customization less of a pain, less latency, less stuttering, and much more.

Some additional progress (that sits on top of all the 10.8 restructuring) you are already able to see in 10.8.1 alphas that many of you already helped testing/improving, and that finally frees VPX from being windows/x86 exclusive, and adds many new features on top (BGFX, HDR, Plugins, ...).

Thanks for all the testing, feedback and of course thanks to all the other devs that contributed over the last years!

..and enjoy.. .. ..

:bar3:

p.s.: Note that we also uploaded a new 10.7.4 that contains a couple of fixes ported over from 10.8.0

It is by far the most exciting VP release I've experienced. Sure, it took a while, but, overall. Compared to previous years, you devs has not been on the lazy side and you've squashed bugs here and there. I'm sure, you've created a few new ones in the process ;) But, that was needed I guess in order to fix long standing bugs. You guys should be very proud of your work. To think that this is based all upon your love for pinball, coding - done all free of charge is beyond what anyone can expect. You guys are god damn Heros all of you ! I can't thank you enough !

Congrats !!

From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.

Dev Team.

I recall first trying out VP with the pack in table -i think it was the getaway- so many years ago. Back then, that was pretty cool.

Wow. Have you guys, along with all the other VP "addon" coders, table authors, artists, etc. just taken everything to such crazy new levels. Staggering really.

The cab has given me a lot of peace and joy over the years. I cannot thank you enough!

Installing now.

Thank you very much for the final 10.8 release.

(It's a little funny though that in the 'About' window the 10.7.3 changelog is shown :))

First of all ... thanks to all people who worked hard on this Release!!!

I tried the Final Version und had Problems with the Roms. Example ... Johnny Mnemonic --- Rom jm_12r

VPX8 32 bit = Machine 'jm_12r' terminated before initialized, check rom-path or rom-file

VPX8 64 bit = same error as 32 bit

VPX8 GL 32 bit = works

VPX8 GL 64 bit = works

VPinMame is 3.6 and the Test-Program inside the Setup-Programm says rom is ok and also the Test works.

What do i wrong? Can someone help me?

I tested also Terminator 2 with t2_l8 ... same as above ... normal exes don't work ... GL exes work.

Also at first start of the normal 32 bit exe i had a virus-waring from my avast (a normal check with avast reported no virus) onco released from quarantain no warning....fals positive (virus-total reported also no virus)?

PS. i tried the board-search but found nothing

I guess you need to put the whole VP folder as an exception folder in the antivirus, otherwise the antivirus will start checking and stopping vbs files, and also dll and exe files if they are compressed. Once done that unpack again the VPX8 files in case any of them are missing.

Another thing that may be wise is to install the latest C++ files, from here: Latest Visual C++ Redistributable Runtimes All-in-One Nov 2024 Download | TechPowerUp

Thanks for VPX8 final ! 2 questions though: As a desktop user, is there any advantage in using OpenGL version? If so, how much video power does it need?  Currently it just crashes when I load it. Standard version works fine.

Thanks!

Congratulations with the VPX8 release guys.
VR is really stunning, and performed ing incredibly. It really gives me a feeling I'm standing behind a real pinball machine (we'll I'm actually standing behind me cab which feels even more realistic).
A big thanks to vbousquet who did a lot of work on this release and also on vpinmame (and toxie and jsmr174 not to forget). But for me and some others it started 2 years ago and check everyday if there was a new update. Not just one, but overnight multiple things for fixed (which broke others). But afterwards lot of people had faith in it and we are not disappointed with this release.

I tested the installer on clean machine, but I noticed that b2sserver and vpinmame didn't get the registry registration. Previous vpx version did all out of the box. Is it just me ?

Anyway congratulations with this release guys !

Thanks jpsalas for your help. Let me thank you also for all the great tables that you provided us!!! amazing!!!

I installed the latest C++ files, deaktivated my antvirus and copied the files again...sadly still the same,,,GL-Version works, normal not :-(

May there be an adjustment inside VPinball that i missed? I never had problems with vpinmame before. With the latest 10.7.4 Release everything works.

A huge thankyou to the development team, both current and previous. I am in awe of what you all have achieved and then give freely of your time so the rest of us can come along for the ride, all for the love of pinball and preservation of the tables. Congratulations on the release, I'm now fully entrenched in playing the VR version and all the amazing tables/ VR rooms that have been released. Such a fun hobby.

@toxie

With the latest VPX8 installer, the right click edit from the context menu is not loading the table to the editor.

The Reg key edit command is missing in the VPX_Auto_File section.

"C:\Visual Pinball\VPinballX.exe" "%1"

Should be:

"C:\Visual Pinball\VPinballX.exe" -edit "%1"

Visual Pinball has improved a lot since the latest years

Thanks to all the dev team for all your hard work !

Alright...

I know it might sound a bit ' here we go again'  after all the previous posts but :

I'm very happy with VPX and where it currently is that I would like to give a big Thank You All Involved to..well..all involved  :-)

I started building my cab in 2014 and since then it's been a long journey but always a step forward.

And now the final 10.8:
frame pacing (got that working about 5 days ago after a complete overhaul and new PC), the freedom of changing the POV to your liking (remembering changing the Z-axis in previous builds scr*wing up the total table physics ...) and the overall look of the graphics of the table: sometimes I just sit in front of the cab enjoying all the graphic details of the PF and BG.

So, all involved thanks but for this party a big thanks for the 10.8 final release!
