File Name: Genie (Gottlieb 1979)
File Submitter: maceman
File Submitted: 25 Mar 2013
File Category: VPinMAME 9.x Recreations
Author(s): Compufox,EalaDubhSidhe, Maceman
Manufacturer: Gottlieb
Year: 1979
ROM: Link to ROM
Media Pack: Link to Media Pack
Permission to MOD?: Unspecified

Note:
F6 to change # balls 3 or 5.
I tried to use high quality graphics where possible, so you will need to use either one of Koadic's stable daily builds or lower the max texture dimension setting in the video options if you see the "could not create texture offscreen surface" error. It will decrease visual quality so I would recommend a new build that supports higher textures to play.

This is the desktop version of Genie. It is a new table build from Franscisco's FP images (Thanx Franscisco!) and using Compufox's script with some changes.
A big thanx to everyone who help along the way,  Hmueck, BodyDump, LuvThatApex, Blur, EalaDubhSidhe, Grizz,, Bolt, Rob046 etc.... I hope i didn't miss anyone!! Thanx to Compufox, Noah, JP  and Pinuck for various scripts.
Thanx Darquayle for Genie dB2s and Destruk for the Rom.
Thanx to Forum for testing and support.

Thank you very much maceman for this fantastic release. The table looks and plays great.

4 lamp are always on; the 4 yellow target in the middle, the special target, the spinner lamp and the same players shoot again lamp.

In the old vp8 version are this lamps off, at the start.

regards

Thanks Mace. I just tried it and this is an Excellent table. Plays great and has that fun factor that I look for. WS monitors need to adjust xscale. I play WS with a second monitor on top for working backglass and thanks to a very nice darquayle's DirecB2S backglass.

Thanx Serpiko and Bob!

I really like Darquayle's dB2S for Genie as well. Look forward to trying it on an FS release for the cabbies...eventually :)

Cheers,

NIce table, thanks! I only played a few time on my portable, since I'm not home this week, and it works very well.

Thanx JP!

I haven't had any new bug reports so far, so that is a good sign I think!

I will start working on the FS now if this seems to be working okay.

Thanx all!

Maceman

The VPM-related script in the previous VP8 version is actually by Compufox; I handled all the build and effects-related work.

Nice work
I did not have much free time these days to test the table.
I noticed missing some invisible wall where there are rubbers-post.
Tomorrow I hope to give you a more detailed explanation.

Thanks

Max

Thanx Kiwi. Any info would be great.

I noticed some comments on the game link itself, but i will answer them here so we can all see them....

RetroM4n mentioned 2 issues. One with the ball count and one with a bouncy rollover outlane on the left.

For the Ball issue, if you press f6, i have it set to 5 balls as i wanted it like that for testing. You can toggle to 3 balls and it should be okay. I am not sure why 5 is not working for you as i haven't had the issue, but if someone sees this and knows how to fix, please let us know.

Also, I will look into the bounce. I may have left a slingshot on one of the rubbers by accident, so i need to look to find it and will update if/when i do.

Thanx for the comments guys!

Maceman

I find that the left inlane/outlane is too bouncy sometimes. Every once in a while the ball will either bounce back up towards the bumper or shoot down the inlane so fast it is hard to catch. Anybody else have this problem?

The green ellipses mark where there are no walls.
This is the slingshot on the left (I have not tried yet version 1.3) .

leftslings.png

Here in the real Pinball there is a guide in trasparent plastic.

rightguidep.png

To the right and left of the spinner, the ball occasionally slows down or gets stuck.

Compared to the real Pinball and your table.

topinlanesa.png

Green arrow:
Moving the plastic post to the right, closes the space between the post and the wall31, and must also rotate the gate.
Red arrow:
the ball could get stuck.
In the real table, the post is located more to the right.

Lights with the image off-on incorrect.

L12 ,L12a ,L18 ,L18a ,L5a ,L6a ,L36a ,L17a ,Light5a .

I'll check the transparency in the Image Manager .

Thanks

Max
