Lost all sound

Best Answer Pindoc , Today, 03:07 AM

Hi,

I am running a 3 monitor system on Windows 11.

It had been running fine with VP 10.7.2 but after a Windows update, the backglass image moved to the playfield screen.  I fixed that but now there is no sound at all in the game from the rom or the sound manager (ball roll, collisions, etc). In addition, when in the table edit sound manager, there is no sound.

All of the other normal computer sounds (outside of VP) play fine from the cabinet speakers and the physical connections are correct.

I checked several different tables (DE Guns and Roses, Cirqus Voltaire, Kingpin) and they are all the same.

The game plays normally but no sound.

I checked the Script line 69 while in GnR which showed Global Sound = 2.  I tried changing to 1 but it had no effect.

Any help would be appreciated.  I am a VP user, not a creator so my knowledge of the software is very limited.  I would appreciate if any suggestions, help or instructions are detailed.

Thank you very much.

Try this...

With table running, hit the plus key. (The key to the left of backspace.)

The minus key lowers, and the plus key raises volume.

You should see green indication bars at bottom of screen.

That was it !

Thank you.  I am back in business.

I must have hit the "-" key a few times searching for a way to open the coindoor on Guns and Roses.  (End did not work and Home caused a slamtilt.)  I finally found that "7" gets you into the menu and the start button changes the option of the setting.  I had looked for the game volume control under the key menu but I must have missed it.

Thanks again.

1. Sounds like a "Windows Audio Problem". Mainly because no "Windows Update" would change anything in VPX.

2. What is your "audio device" or sound-card? How are your speakers connected, and how many pairs of speakers do you have?

3. Weird . How did you "fix it"? I wonder if that dug the hole deeper.

4. So you know about "rom sounds", good. Then you know "table sounds" come from different coding.

5. Because of this (all of them quiet)

6. then I would not be messing with script coding in individual tables. Even in GnR for F1-menu (vPinMame) Alt-Sound Mode = 0 works for testing (as those are the "rom sounds").

Without VPX or PinVol running ...

Go to Control-Panel/Sound

Only the one sound-card-device that you use should be left Active (and also Default), so disable the others.

The "Test Speakers" feature should work.

Once you have that working ...

In VPX-Editor / Prefs / Audio Options ... Global App Settings

Select Standard 2 channel (for now)

Be sure BOTH Play Sound-Effects & Music are checked and set to 100% (far right).

For Devices on Right, instead of leaving on "Primary Sound Driver" ... go ahead and select your true sound-card/audio-device.

EDITED.

Thank you so much for the detailed information.  I will bookmark this for future reference although I really hope I won't need it.  Xenonph's suggestion worked.

I apparently "dug the hole deeper" when I was trying to figure out how to "open" the coindoor and work the coindoor menu because the usual "End" would not work on GnR.  I finally found that 7 worked, but not before hitting the "-" too many times.

As far as how I got the backglass back to the correct monitor, I finally figured out to use the B2S backglass placement app and got it back where it belonged.  It has been a long while since I had to set this all up.  I have no idea how the backglass got on the wrong monitor.  It had been working properly for a few years.  During the process of getting it back, I did not get into any sound related menus in VP.  Fortunately the fix for the sound was simple with the + & - keys.

Thanks again!
