Hi everyone,

 

I’ve just done a clean installation of Visual Pinball using the official installer from VPForums. Everything seemed to install correctly, but now I have an issue: The mouse cursor does not appear when playing any table.

 

It only shows up when I press the ESC key to bring up the in-game menu (where you can return to editor, etc.), but during gameplay the cursor is completely invisible. This means I can’t move the DMD or resize/reposition it, nor can I interact with anything using the mouse.

 

I’ve tried launching several different tables, and the issue persists across all of them. It didn’t happen before the reinstall.

 

I’ve seen posts suggesting disabling Exclusive Fullscreen mode (“Force exclusive fullscreen mode”), but in VPX 10.8 I cannot find that option anywhere in the Preferences → Video/Graphics settings.

 

Has anyone run into this? Is there any setting I need to tweak to get the mouse cursor to behave normally again?

Find Exclusive Fullscreen option in the Preferences → Video/Graphics settings. Top left in window.

 

 

Find Enable Mouse handling during gameplay option in the Preferences → Keys, Nudge. and DOF settings. Towards bottom center of window.

Thanks a lot for your suggestions!

 

I’ve double-checked both options you mentioned and they’re already configured correctly — but unfortunately, the mouse cursor still doesn’t appear during gameplay.

 

As an additional test, I tried enabling Cabinet view, and interestingly, in that mode (even with the screen rotated) I can see and move the mouse cursor freely across the screen.

 

However, in this mode it looks like the playfield and DMD are merged together and I can’t interact with them individually (unless I press ESC, in which case the VPX menu appears and the mouse works again inside that menu).

 

So it seems there’s something in either Visual Pinball or VPinMAME that's preventing the windowed mode from working properly or from displaying the cursor correctly.

Maybe some option or bug is causing the cursor to be hidden while in play mode?

Hi again,

 

As a test, I uninstalled Visual Pinball X 10.8 and did a fresh install using the official installer for VPX 7.2.

 

The good news is that now the mouse cursor shows up correctly during gameplay. However, there's a new problem:

 

When I click on the DMD, nothing happens. I can't move it, I can't right-click it, and the usual options like "Show DMD border" or "Toggle Always on Top" are no longer accessible. It feels like the DMD is somehow "embedded" into the playfield screen and completely locked in place.

 

I have no idea what’s causing this. It’s very frustrating because everything used to work more or less fine on my old setup, and now after trying to upgrade to the latest version, everything seems broken.

 

I don’t understand why in VPX 10.8 the cursor completely disappears, and why now in VPX 7.2 the DMD is stuck and unresponsive.

 

There must be some setting or compatibility issue that I’m missing — but I’ve spent hours trying to figure it out and still haven’t found a solution.

 

Please, if anyone with deep knowledge of VPX or VPinMAME can help me get things working again — even if it means going back to an older version — I would really appreciate your support.

I think I found the issue — it seems that pressing the F4 key somehow "locks" the DMD, preventing it from being moved or interacted with. When I pressed F4 again, I was able to move it normally.

 

Honestly, I must have hit every possible key in desperation, and I probably messed up the whole pinball configuration in the process. Now I’m going to start over and try to reset all settings from scratch to get everything working properly again.

There is a little trick to solve your problem: Press the Ctrl and D keys simultaneously and then Esc. You will then be given a freely available mouse pointer ;-)
