Hi all!  Very new to VP, so bear with me. My daughter really would like to be able to play Sharkey's Shootout, since our local arcade removed the game recently, and it was one of her favorites.  I was able to download the VPT, ROM and B2S and have the game playing in VP9... HOWEVER, there is one bug I cannot get sorted out:  The main (bottom) flippers are not working normally.  Let me explain:

When I first played the game, the main lower flippers were slow as molasses.  Like, if you press and hold, it takes 10 seconds to raise and lower the flipper.  Oddly, the upper flipper is fast and normal.  I was able to edit the table data in VP9 and I compared the flipper "Physics" settings between the upper flipper and the two lower ones, and they were WAY different.  Since the one upper flipper worked, I just copied those settings to the lower flippers.  That made the lower flippers react normally when pressed, BUT...

Now the lower flippers are "weak", meaning you cannot use them to shoot a ball into the upper playfield.  I've increased the "strength" from 6 (what the upper flipper uses) to 50 and still it's weak (no change).

I guess my first question is how this game was ever playable?  Surely it worked fine, so there is something different in my environment.  But, the main question now is what can I do to make the flippers work with some strength so they can shoot the ball up into the upper playfield?  I tried some online searches as to what the "Strength", "Speed", "Power-Law" and other settings work, but wasn't successful.

Thanks in advance!

- Scott

It sounds like maybe the table you are using is a PhysicsMOD5 version?

Try opening it with VPinball99_PhysMod5_Updated.exe that should be in your Visual Pinball folder if you used the All-In-One Installer.

I got that one too. It probably originates from vpinball.com because it's not here or other sites either.

Cool table but it could use a physics update. Perhaps the VPW guys get to it some day.

there is little or no support for VP9 anymore.

you are kind of on your own.

VPX10 is the new game.

sounds like you have flipper lag.

i don't know your setup.

if on a KB or controller open the mouse properties on your PC.

in "buttons" and "pointers"  move the settings slider to max then click "apply".

If you run a regular VP9 table with the VPinball99_PhysMod5_Updated.exe, flippers will act similiar and not work properly.

why so many programs.

just makes this all more difficult to install, operate and maintain

alot of us are so frustrated with all the errors and install problems.

why not put the time and effort into one program that everybody can learn and operate.

i wonder how many people come here then leave because it is too much work to deal with.

i installed the all-in-one installer the other day in win7

VP9-91x and physmod works but VPX does not.

the tables load but dont work.

now i have to pull more hair out to find what is wrong......

could be win7.  i got some errors when installing.

You really don't need to run all of the exes, unless you want to run the older tables.

When someone upgrades their table from VP8 to VP9.12, they don't delete the old table and the old exe.

When tables were upgraded to VP9.9, they didn't delete the old tables or the old exes.

When tables were upgraded to VPX, they didn't delete the old tables or the old VP8 and VP9 exes.

These exes are made available so you can play these older tables, which were top of the line when they were first released.

This is why those older exes are included in the All-In-One Installer.

When you say the VPX tables load but don't work, is there an error message popping up?

i'm way past that.  i put the old execs to sleep.  i just keep them for history

been using 995b for VP9-91x

you are missing the point.

my point is, the forum is taking on too much.

the programs are not exactly user friendly.

stay with one program and keep improving it.

there are too many programs making it more difficult to operate and maintain.

i installed the allinone installer weeks ago.

im still working on the errors a little at a time.

most of my vp9-91x and physmod work.

had alot errors when installing.  maybe win7

maybe ill call later.

Taking on too much what?

the programs are not exactly user friendly.

About as friendly as you get i supposed, considering that VPX is a DIY tool kit
Not a plug N play game.
It is a construction kit, to build and run your own stuff on an uncounted number of possible configurations.

stay with one program and keep improving it.

there are too many programs making it more difficult to operate and maintain.

? Huh

No one works on / maintains VP9
It finished all that jazz long ago, it just hangs around in the state it was in when it's development ended.
No one is maintaining it, fixsing bugs, doing updates etc, it is frozen in time.

So what other programs?
VpinMAME?  Different team of people, and not even required if you dont run ROM tables
Also not specific to VPX, Future pinball Could use VPinMAME, it simply does not

B2S server? Separate program, designed separately, and currently maintained by someone OTHER than the VPX devs.

Same as VpinMAME, other apps can use it too, they just dont.

FlexDMD and Freezy's DMD extensions?
Again, conceived by independent developers, and maintained by them and can be used by any app that wishes to make use of them.

VPX devs work on and maintain VPX, that is it.
Not VP7 VP8 or VP9

i installed the allinone installer weeks ago.

im still working on the errors a little at a time.

Probably root issues in your Win7 installation itself
