File Name: Aces & Kings (Williams 1970)

File Submitter: Mustang1961

File Submitted: 14 Jul 2022

File Category: VPX/VPinMAME Recreations

Author(s): -=Kees=-
Albert
Manufacturer: Williams
Year: 1970
Permission to MOD?: Yes, without approval

Initially -=Kees=- wrote:
- A fast and easy playing EM table of Williams in 1970.
- Initial release rev 1.00
- direct2BS included.
- Graphics and script are made from scratch.
- Feel free to improve this table.

Albert supplemented his enrichment with

Changed the appearance of the spinning disc, notably the spinning posts.
Changed the minimal speed of the spinning disc. The disc stops now earlier. This was done to avoid to a certain extent the visible choppy animation on lower speeds.
Saucers now with animated kick arms.
Changed the kick angles of the saucers.
Added a countdown for the bonus lights after ball drain.
Added two missing playfield inscriptions.
Lowered the elements in the upper area of the playfield (rebound rubber, shooter lane gate, and guide walls).
The shooter lane gate has a new primitive cover.
New GI for for some ball reflections.
Ball size increased by 1 unit.
Added sound effects.
There is also a sub (Sub licht_Timer) for four blinking lamps in your backglass. If you want to use this, you have to modify your backglass.

My view on this game: most probably the first pin I played as a child. It was located in a pub-cinema combination was very popular in the early 70th.

-=Kees=- and Albert allow explicitly to modify the table so I changed the following:

- new game physics - cab optimized
- many, many new sound and sound sequences for the score motor
- switching off the ugly reset sound coming from the BG file, used reset sound is from Loserman76
- new POV for cab users
- side lanes now with barriers in order to look good and to reduce ball losts
- added screws at bumper caps and made these a little larger
- changed the BG to rolling reels
- added bulbs per each player for a more natural reel illumination
- when the game is switched on and in game over state all players score reels are now illuminated
- all light messages are now in place of the original game
- blinking lights at game name

Zip includes game, BG and pics for cab users

Version MOD IIb:

- all object sounds now in operation, the post made me crazy, but now I like the result
- ball rolling sound level adjusted
- BG score reels now illuminated "in themselves"

Enjoy!

I swear you must play EMs in real life! Was not disappointed by this one.

Is Bally's 1976 'Freedom' in your scope by any chance?

Table doesn't work on desktop with b2s disabled even after changing "Set Controller = CreateObject("b2s.server")" to "Set Controller = CreateObject("VPinMAME.Controller")"

On Line 177 of the script, you'll see "B2SOn=True"

Set this to False and try again.

You can NOT do that

There is no vpinmame server, there is no ROM, it is an EM
Go back to the way the table was when downloaded

Yes, the table is ready (EM), however there is a problem with the rolling sound. Leeoneil has taken the task and try to fix it.

Nice table. clean graphics and smooth play.

Having problem in desktop mode. I changed line 177 to False.

Table plays fine except for score.

Scores do not reset to zero when you start new game.

Hi mcgrumet,

try this -> un-comment lines 443 - 446. I took the lines out because these cause the ugly reset sound coming from the BG- server in cab mode. Please return if that helps for the others DT- users.

Thank you !

Have you tried the latest build of B2S server from github?
i think they removed the embedded sounds

I think you refer to the change log entry from me?

- Comment out the hardcoded sound loading. The last version committed from Herweh contained half finished code with hard coded sound files which make the exe fail on start. This is now on comment

I meant the following lines from the Designer code, straight from the SVN Repository:

'add sounds
nodeHeader.AppendChild(nodeSounds)
For Each name As String In New String() {"10", "100", "1000"}
   Using stream As IO.FileStream = New IO.FileStream("C:\Users\Stefan\Dropbox\WIP Tables\Resources\Sound Resources\" & name & ".wav", IO.FileMode.Open)
	   If stream IsNot Nothing Then
		   Dim nodeSound As Xml.XmlElement = XML.CreateElement("Sound")
		   nodeSounds.AppendChild(nodeSound)
		   nodeSound.SetAttribute("Name", name)
		   nodeSound.SetAttribute("Type", "wav")
		   nodeSound.SetAttribute("Stream", WavToBase64(stream))
	   End If
   End Using
Next

This is hardcoding soundfiles from Herweh's Dropbox file storage and it compiles well but crashes hard when you want to export your back-glass...

I have also searched ALL .my directb2s files for an XML tag called "Sound" and could not find any. Seems Stefan was working on adding sound support before he quit his development on B2S as the Server does search for these tags while reading the files.

So, I have not removed anything I know about. If anyone would like to test the "new" Designer it would be helpful. We want to know if we miss any feature from the last official version. Since I am not a good B2S Designer and never used it myself, I am a bad tester...

The github test build do contain the Bugfix from Westworld though, making empty reels work while importing and saving.
