Hi,

I have a question about Pinvol.

I have cabinet that is using my motherboards 7.1 (Realtek) outputs and all of the sound channels work perfectly. I am using PinballX and PinballY ( still deciding which one to use ). I have a 2.1 amp for the backglass with 2 speakers and a subwoofer and 4 exciters setup for the surround sound. These all map correctly in the windows 10 sounds testing.

I have installed Pinaffinity and Pinvol and have these running from startup without issue. I also installed EqualizerAPO and Pinvol recognizes it correctly and the SSF backglass, rear and front gain controls show up.

I have mapped the following cab buttons.

Buy In key for shift

Right Flipper / Magna                    Table           Vol up/down using the shift

Left Flipper / Magna              SSF Backglass    Vol up/down using shift

Start / Coin                            SSF Rear            Vol up/down with shift

Info / Exit                               SSF Front           Vol  up/down with shift

Global for now I am using with the keyboard until I install 2 more buttons under the cab.

I have already balanced the volumes per table ( I have 24 at the moment ) by using the table volume, global volume and also by setting the ROM volume by using the menus via the coin door options.

Some of the tables however have louder or quieter SSF sounds than others that I would like to alter using the Pinvol options. When I use any of the above mentioned keys I see the Pinvol menus and can adjust them via the keys but no matter if I go from -10db to +10db on BG,FR,LR if makes absolutely no difference to the audio output on any of those channels.

Does the EqualizerAPO software need to be running in the background? I do not see a way of running minimized in the taskbar.

Any thoughts are welcome.

Cheers.

You could run Peace eq interface - https://sourceforge....-apo-extension/

Then only used the preamp to see/verify that eqapo itself is working since Peace is frontend requiring eqapo.

If it ain't working, reinstall eqapo. It is known that Win10 sometime fucks up eqapo with its forced updates.

Also, verify that eqapo is enabled for the sound devices you actually are using. It is highly recommended to disable all audio input/output options you don't use, like hdmi etc.

Thanks Thalamus,

I will check out what you have said.

Forgot to mention that the Exciters are on a separate 5.1 amp but I am only using the surround inputs not the front speaker or subwoofer / center. Not sure if that makes a difference as they all work in VPX / PinballX and windows sound check.

I'll let you know

Ian

OK,

Checked the playback devices in APO and are set as following

Realtek Speakers                 APO installed   Default

Realtek Digital Digital Out    APO installed

The rest are set as 'Can install'

In windows I have disabled ALL other sources. I have 3 screens running of a ROG STRIX 6700 with 4 outputs. They are disabled.

Installed Peace and ran some music through it. None of the mixers change the sound. Only the master volume.

Re-installl APO?

Yes. Or, well, what was it about the center speaker ? It was related to Win10 only and I don't run that crap os on my pin. It was info about it over at vpinball, but, I don't remember much of it. Reinstalling the eqapo won't break anything - should not ;)

Managed to get it working.

I re-installed my sound drivers, EqualizerAPO and peace. This did not fix the issue but I suspected that it needed doing.

Went into EqualizerAPO and clicked on the Realtek speakers and then the troubleshooting check box. Then set it to 'Install as SFX/EFX (experimental)'.

Boom!!!!  Works perfectly now.

Update: *FIXED* see below...

---

I have the same issue. Also a realtek onboard.. SSF worked fine before installing EAPO and PinVol. Now the Surround volume seems quite low. Gain changes on backglass, front or rear don't do anything. However I know PinVol is working because when I tab out of the table, the volume goes up, go back in, it goes down. Also I'm seeing PinVolSSF.txt being updated.

I've tried with the default (recommended) 'troubleshooting' option in configurator.exe and the experimental, a few times. No difference.

Any adjustment I make (just to test) within EAPO's Editor (using PinVolSSF.txt) with PinVol off, doesn't apply. Unless I use config.txt. Which reminds me I think I had to copy whatever EAPO profile I wanted to be called config.txt, and when I wanted to turn it off, copy the old_config.txt back to config.txt. Like EAPO can't use another default file...

Update:

Then I looked to see if pinvolssf.exe had some posts about this config.txt issue. And it seems this is not so much an issue as something pinvol was supposed to do to config.txt but didn't.. or what.. but config.txt needs to have an include line added to it that points to PinVOLSSF.txt. With this line (and in my case, only this line) in there, PinVol's gain controls seem to be working. I wonder if something in ikendrick's reinstall process included reinstalling pinvol and (if it's supposed to, I don't know) it updated config.txt to include pinvolssf.txt.

Hi WiredRacing,

I did a lot of 'Experimenting' to try to get this all to work. You are correct that I did the same as you and emptied the EAPO config file and just included the PinvolSFF.txt only. I probably messed around with a lot of things as well before I got it working but to be honest it was all a bit hack and slash on my part.

Thanks for pointing that out.

Ian.

Thank you so much Guys, without this post, i never will get this to work. Fantastic, i only included the PinvolSFF.txt line in the config.txt of EAPO config file. Works now perfect.

Thanx a lot.

Hey guys, I've done everything noted in this thread. Can't get Pinvol to work. Peace is working fine. The global and table sliders are working in pinvol but for the life of me can't get the SSF to work. I took the day off from work today to fix this and I've gone backwards...I have the PinvolSSF.txt in the config.txt file. I tried all three options in the eqapo experimental.... All speakers/exciters are recognized in Windows AND Peace...arghhh. Somebody please help me...Does Peace need to be running? I've tried it running and not running to no avail...

OK, got it running finally, I had to specify the external sound card in EqAPO editor. But now I'm getting a lot of clipping in game. I have preamp set to zero. When I run the speakers in Windows without EqAPO I can crank it up with no clipping at all...ANY input is appreciated.

Cheers for this.  This thread prompted me to check my config.txt in EAPO install/config dir

my config file was missing the colon, so happy as all works now. (Include: PinVolSSF.txt).  My set-up is same as Way of the Wrench video
