Hi folks;

After many years since installing it, a few Windows and hardware changes, I got the hankering for pinball again and so came back to this fine if damned fiddly emulator. And now I'm having a lot of very frustrating issues! So I hope you can all help me with them...

Using Windows 10, and Visual Pinball 10.6.00 (the all in one installer). I'm trying to use VPinballX as the graphics look sharper and there are nicer versions of the tables there. However;

1.)  There seems to be two different types of tables now, which affect how the score display from PinMame is shown? The older style, and one which uses something called "DMD"?  The problem is, I've found no way to get at the options for DMD except for being able to resize it. This proves an issue when a game does actually run, but I can't have the score board permanently in front in full screen; non-DMD scoreboards will display properly  but I cannot find a way to play the other tables and have DMD scoreboards visible too.

2.)  "Fish Tales (Williams 1992)_Bigus(MOD)1.1"  starts with an error "Can't start Gameft_I5 Invalid procedure call or argument", pulls no score window at all, allows you to enter coins but cannot start the table.

3.) "Judge Dredd (Bally 1993) 2.3"  and "Judge Dredd(Bally 1993)_Bigus(MOD)1.2"   will start, but with extremely quiet sound effects and music (pressing = shows I'm at full volume) but pressing End doesn't seem to bring up the rom volume settings? Attempting to play hard crashes the table when ever a flipper is used, with the error "Line:  1.  Object doesn't support this property or method: 'aFlip1.Speed'  "

4.) "Medieval Madness Tom Tower 3.0b final", "Medieval Madness VPX  Remake - Tom Tower & Ninuzzu rev2.3", "Medieval Madness_Redux_2.3" and "VP10_Medieval_Madness_Hanibal_1.5"   all have the DMD only, can't have scoreboard in front of playable table issue.  The only one that works with the older style scoreboard (and thus is playable) is "Medieval Madness (Williams 1997)_Bigus(MOD)1.0" but it's not accurate to the original cabinet (It has a large Merlin statue for example"... I'd like to get some of the others working instead. Any ideas?

Thanks for any advice in advance!

Using Windows 10, and Visual Pinball 10.6.00 (the all in one installer). I'm trying to use VPinballX as the graphics look sharper and there are nicer versions of the tables there. However;

Ok, 1st go get this update

Visual Pinball X (Standalone EXE)

Get the VpinballX62_minimal.zip
Just unzip into the existing visual pinball folder, over write all files

1.)  There seems to be two different types of tables now, which affect how the score display from PinMame is shown? The older style, and one which uses something called "DMD"?  The problem is, I've found no way to get at the options for DMD except for being able to resize it. This proves an issue when a game does actually run, but I can't have the score board permanently in front in full screen; non-DMD scoreboards will display properly  but I cannot find a way to play the other tables and have DMD scoreboards visible too.

There are 3 table types
EM with mechanical scoring reels
SS with Segmented LED displays

SS post 1990's with DMD (dot matrix) displays

The 1st 2 types are generally shown on the directb2s backglass
VPM can show the 2nd type, but it does not look very good as pinmame has no info on how the backglass itself was assembled

the 3rd type You may with to have these

dmdext-v1.8.2-x86.zip

Unzip into the existing VPinMAME folder
And

FlexDMD.zip

also unzip into VPinMAME folder

Now to make use of said things
1) in VPX video prefs, uncheck exclusive full screen mode (and leave it off if you only have 1 screen)
If you dont do this, you wont be able to see what goes behind the table

So now open and run a DMD table
Hit F1
Check use external DLL
and uncheck the show display above it
and check Cabinet mode.
Now click ok, and quit table to editor and relaunch
Now you got a nifty DMD window you can do all kinds of things with
and you right click it to save size and position

2.)  "Fish Tales (Williams 1992)_Bigus(MOD)1.1"  starts with an error "Can't start Gameft_I5 Invalid procedure call or argument", pulls no score window at all, allows you to enter coins but cannot start the table.

Do you have ft_l5.zip in your vpinmame\roms folder?

The error could partially be due to the older 10.6.0 install

3.) "Judge Dredd (Bally 1993) 2.3"  and "Judge Dredd(Bally 1993)_Bigus(MOD)1.2"   will start, but with extremely quiet sound effects and music (pressing = shows I'm at full volume) but pressing End doesn't seem to bring up the rom volume settings? Attempting to play hard crashes the table when ever a flipper is used, with the error "Line:  1.  Object doesn't support this property or method: 'aFlip1.Speed'  "

Default ROM volume level is low
its keys 8 and 9 on keyboard
You may have to hit END to open the coin door

I forget if flipper speed is supported any more or is not supported anymore

If you still get that error after updating with the zip i pointed to above, then that might be an old copy of the table
I have got some old tables that i think used that same routing to work fine, just by commenting out the aflip.speed lines

Any ideas?

See above about DMD stuff, and your issue will go away for those too

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you; Thank you for all the suggestions so far!  Just to update

1.) & 4.)  The two files suggested fixed all of these issues; apparently the complete install zip hosted here still needs more work! But as MM is the table I really wanted to play, I am happy!

2.)  I did not have the rom file it turns out, I now do, but Fish Tales is still generating the same error. I have also tried downloading "Fish Tales (Authentic_Mod) 1.1"  and that generates both a "Variable Undefined; NoUpperLeftFlipper" error and also the same ft_I5 error as above.

3.) No change with the Judge Dredd tables sadly; 8&9 generates the "Open Door" error to access the switches on the scoreboard, but doesn't change volume; but End doesn't open the door (and the key is set as door open under option).  Then the game crashes still when a flipper is used.

We do not have a new all in one installer, though it has been discussed a bit
Perhaps they can do one, once 10.7 is finalized

The all in one is 10.6.0, but it still does most of the heavy lifting, once it is done, it is mainly unzipping a few smaller zip files and dumping the contents over the top of the existing

But yes, a new installer would be good.

I know there are 3rd party ones, but they do not work for some people, and tend to come with a bunch of extras that not everyone will want.

VPX needs a new basic installer.

2.)  I did not have the rom file it turns out, I now do, but Fish Tales is still generating the same error. I have also tried downloading "Fish Tales (Authentic_Mod) 1.1"  and that generates both a "Variable Undefined; NoUpperLeftFlipper" error and also the same ft_I5 error as above.

run setup.exe from the vpinmame folder

click test, and pick the ft_l5 rom
have it check the rom, see if it gives any errors

if none, have it start the rom and see if it starts properly

You have to be able to start a table with no ROM error, before any other errors mean anything.
Because when the script fails to be able to load the ROM, the script kind of crashes and you get other errors due to other lines not being completed.

3.) No change with the Judge Dredd tables sadly; 8&9 generates the "Open Door" error to access the switches on the scoreboard, but doesn't change volume; but End doesn't open the door (and the key is set as door open under option).  Then the game crashes still when a flipper is used.

I do not believe slipper speed can be set or declared anymore in vpx 10.6+

Sounds like an old version of the table

you might try thalamus's updated script for it

https://raw.githubus...y 1993) 2.0.vbs

just copy everything, and then in the table editor, click the script, hit control + A, and then paste in the new script and test launch table before saving

You are most certainly polluting your tables or users folder with old *.vbs files. The error coming from NoUpperLeftFlipper is pointing in the direction of that. Most probably core.vbs.

Take ALL the *.vbs script files you find in tables folder and move them into scripts folder, now, do that overwrite of vpx like wiesshund told you to, once more. Making sure you get updated properly.

From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.

If your scripts are all hosed

These are all the scripts up to date as of today, that we are using in the 10.7 beta

they work in 10.6 just fine
