File Name: Cue Ball Wizard (Gottlieb 1992)

File Submitter: vogliadicane

File Submitted: 28 Nov 2020

File Category: VPX Recreations

Author(s): Vogliadicane (JPSalas, Rascal, Bigus)
Manufacturer: Gottlieb
Year: 1992
Permission to MOD?: Yes, with approval

Here is my heavy Mod of Cueball Wizard.

For me it is still a WIP, so I'll keep up working on it, but at the moment I'm a bit tired of it and thought, it's in a good shape to release as v0.7. I have a thousand more ideas. maybe later.
See changelog for details, what I did.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Change LUT (=lighting) with left and right Magna Save keys. Results are saved.
Change look of upper acrylic playfield in script options (glass like, worn out, grunge)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Credits:

I started with Bigus' version.

Table history:

JPSalas (VP9 version) -> Rascal (conversion to VPX) -> Bigus (BigusMod) -> My version
So all credits go to these guys.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Big thanks go to:

- @Schreibi34 for his awsome insert images
https://vpinball.com...-insert-images/

- and most for creating all 8-Ball unit primitives for this table

it was a great pleasure to work with you, mate!

- @kds70 for some great help with scripting

Thanks a lot my friend!

- @jipeji16 for letting me steal his code for LUT changing and saving. All LUTs used are from me, but you better look at the code, where he stole from (with permission.. at least he calimed so ;) )

- @Thalamus for checking and updating the script for SSF

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

hope you enjoy!

This clearly demonstrates how realistic lighting and shadows are such an important part of a table. Thank you for doing this, great work.

There are so many - otherwise very good - tables that could significantly benefit from such an improvement.

Agree htamas.  I have a version of this table where the top flashers look like they flash in a square box.  It doesn't look all that realistic.  Hope this version corrects this...!!

I'm really stoked that you guys made a 3D shooter. My prayers have been answered :) Thankyou so much. I've also been picking away at the lighting because I've learned a lot since I first modded this one, and because the real machine has a lot more light, but it was never going to be great without a proper shooter. Your new flasher effects also look cool. I'd wager that I've played this machine more than anyone on the planet, and it is not the least bit dark and gloomy.

Looks fantastic thankyou. I did notice that the black ball is cutting through the cue rest (assuming this is the cueball shooter unit mentioned?) and also through the bumper caps at the top when it bounces around. Most visible in cabinet mode although also in desktop mode as well to a lesser degree, anyone else seeing that?

^^ I know of the issue black ball intersecting with the cueball unit, but don't know, how to fix it, yet. But I try working on it.

Never noticed the same with the bumper caps, though. Will have a look at it.

You can safely ignore my bumper cap issue which turns out is not an issue at all, I just realised the black ball is intentionally meant to be floating over the top of the pop bumpers on a clear perspex upper floor, which means yours works perfectly. It took me a replay to realise this though.

The table looks fantastic in VR, but sadly it crashes VPinballX_GL after a short moment. Have to test some things. Would be nice, to play him in VR.
Thanks for the best version of the beauty.
