Graphical Lag Spikes

1070 graphics lag cpu issues motherboard ram spikes

Best Answer cenaz , 30 June 2020 - 04:31 PM

Some tables have very high resolution textures even for the most minor bolts, some tables have high polycount for some of the assets, without mentionning the tons of lights on some specific pins that flash a lot everywhere at anytime.

I am not sure visual pinball engine is designed to work with such high poly, high texture and high lighting activty things, so without the tables being more optimised by the developers (or yourself (if you know how to model, script or edit textures of course) i doubt any setting change can prevent the ball stutters on those specific heavy tables.

Hi Hobbyist,

I seem to have fixed the issue on the problematic tables by running b2s in EXE mode. Should I consider upgrading my ram to 16GB? Or will 8GB be enough with the 1070ti?

Thanks

Hello,

I have a pinball cabinet that I just upgraded from a GTX1060 to a GTX1070ti because I was noticing lag spikes and stuttering on certain tables and the lag issue is still there. I have "optimized" and played with all graphical settings in Visual Pinball (https://ibb.co/kmv5K76). I have tried lowering the graphics settings to the lowest and the lag spike issue is still there. I think the issue may be that my CPU is not strong enough to handle certain tables or table event triggers. Here are my specs:

OS: Windows 10 Pro (I turned off all useless settings)
Motherboard: Intel DH67BL (Can support 2nd or 3rd gen processors)
CPU: i5 2500 cooled by Deepcool GAMMAXX 200T
SSD: Kingston A400 120GB
RAM: 8GB DDR3 1600MHz
GPU: Zotac 1070ti mini
PSU: Thermaltake Smart White 500W
Playfield Monitor: BenQ 1920x1080
Backglass Monitor: Dell 1440x900

Is it worth upgrading the CPU to an i5 3550 for 25$? Or should I get a new CPU/Motherboard/Ram? I was thinking an i3 9100F would do the job paired with DDR4 2400MHz ram. What do you guys think?

Thanks

No, no real need. Save the money for a future upgrade.

From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.

Thanks! Everything seems to be running smooth after running B2S in EXE mode! I am able to max out every graphical setting with the 1070ti :) Is there a value in the registry or something that that can be edited to make the B2S EXE mode setting global for every table?

Not in registry - believe it is possible inside db2serversettings.xml or what that file is called again ( start with that as default ) - but, you can always override it with cntr+s and change and save. That will make a new entry for the db2s in that file.
