File Name: Doom Classic Edition (TBA 2019)

File Submitter: ivantba

File Submitted: 07 Sep 2019

File Category: VPX Originals

Permission to MOD?: Unspecified

When it was released in 1993, Doom revolutionized the concept of action games and laid the foundations for the FPS genre. In fact, its popularity has not diminished slightly over the years.
It still has one of the largest fan bases. At that time, there was hardly any platform on which it wouldn't appear, and maybe it wasn't ported to a coffee machine...
It offered a demon chase at the game's masterpieces, presenting the most beautiful graphics of the era, brimming with extremely good metal music. So everything was given to the world-famous...

"This game is a survival horror. In which you embody horror yourself and the demons try to survive..."

Video of the gameplay:

An important thing: the content of the music library -mp3 files- are placed in the following folder: Visual Pinball\Music

So, a complete multimedia package is included with the compressed file. Among others, the backglass (directb2s) file. PinballX desktop and cabinet files (audio, pictures, flyers, instruction cards, wheel, etc.)

Original (my resource) table:
Mad Race (Playmatic 1985) v1.0.2

Thank you very much to JPSalas for allowing me to modify, re-theme his superb tables!

You can find the necessary rom file to start the table here (madrace.zip):

Awesome table - can anyone tell me how to change the ROM settings? (For example, the ROM I have always gives me 3 credits when I press the credit button). I can't make sense of the display when I press the appropriate keys to change the settings.

I made the Mad Race table but I'm afraid I don't know how to configure those Inder tables. All I know is that the keys 3 and 5 adds 3 coins and the key 4 adds 2 coins.

Thanks for the info. I've found some information on how to change a few ROM settings in the "Tutorials" part of the forum (the system is "Playmatic of Spain MPU-2"), but none of these are credits settings. I'll keep looking and report back if I find anything.

EDIT: I was wrong, Mad Race / Doom Classic is not MPU-2.

Found it!

The manual for Mad Race at https://www.ipdb.org..._schematics.pdf (especially pages 11 and 12) provides a few helpful hints.

Turns out, pressing "5" on my cab actually activates the THIRD coin acceptor, so that was the setting I needed to change.

Press "7" while the game is in "Game Over" mode.

First, the credit display will read "C", showing how many credits each coin slot has collected so far. (That's what gave me the vital clue, the value for the third coin slot was much higher than the others!)

Press "7" again, and the credit display will read "T", displaying totals.

Press "7" again, and the credit display will read "St". If you press "1" here, all ROM values will be reset to "St"andard values.

Now it gets interesting.

Keep pressing "7" until the credit display reads "08". Here you can set how many games the third coin slot will give you per coin. I set it to 1.

Now it was just a matter of pressing F3 to reboot the game. Et voilà, 1 credit per coin!

Hopefully this information is useful to someone else too. :)

It would be nice if you could add the [Link to the ROM] to your table's page.

It would be nice if people actually read what is on the download page.

When alot of text is added in description on a download page, it is put into a box, which you then can scroll down to read the whole message.

I usually read descriptions, however the text is so shortened that its scroll bar is hard to grab and move down.
On the top, my mouse wheel is almost dead and my fingers are full of arthrosis (probably because I've "slapped" hard pinball machines too often)
On the other hand I thought the [File Information] frame was intended to summarize the essential details about tables.

EDIT:
Why does it take so long between player 2 and player 3 while adding players ?
The pinbal does lots of pinball noises before enabling a 3rd player...

About the gameplay :

  • It's like those old pinball EM machines where one can't keep a ball on the playfield for too long (24 games, same "ejection" to the hole of death...)
This pinball definitely lacks of a SAVE BALL feature !

  • The multiball does not look obvious to the new player because of the lights that should be flashing IMHO.
And the third hole's light lacks of visibility.(the one on the middle left)
Once locked, the balls are unlocked whenever the turn is over so one have to lock them again. (lights are kept lit)

  • The game lacks of missions to complete or "power ups", the only one being the right lane which is hard to pass through.
