File Name: Spirit (Gottlieb 1982)_DOZER_1.4.zip

File Submitter: Dozer316

File Submitted: 13 Jun 2018

File Category: VPX/VPinMAME Recreations

Author(s): Dozer VPX version.

Luvthatapex/Moonchild/Destruk - VP9 Version.
Manufacturer: Gottlieb
Year: 1982
ROM: Link to ROM
Permission to MOD?: Yes, without approval

Here is Spirit by Gottlieb - a rather rare system 80 game with a supernatural theme. (1982)

This build uses resources from the VP9 version of Spirit with a lot of modification to sit right in VP10.  This table was challenging
because the playfield and plastics are black which was very difficult to light.  It forced me to find a different method to distinguish
the plastics from the playfield though via the use of flashers with a plastic texture applied mapped to the appropriate shape.

There is an option at the top of the script named flip_link which is turned on by default.  This links the outlane flippers to the main
flippers for cabinets that don't have 2 sets of flipper buttons.  The real cabinet has an additional set of buttons for these smaller flippers so if your
cabinet has them, turn the option off for much more challenging play.   These outer flippers are assigned to left and right magnasave.

If the table looks foggy or milky on your monitor then change these variables at the start of the script to the following numbers.

Const Flasher_Reduction =100
Const GI_Modulation = 1
Const Flasher_Reduction can be any number between 0 and 100 so tweak to your liking.  Higher the number, the less foggy it will look.
Const GI_Modulation can only be 0 or 1 - change to 1 to remove milky halos around GI lights.

The top left saucer which needs to be shot for multiball play is a very challenging shot - it's worth watching the following videos on Youtube
to get an understanding of the rules for Spirit.

The table was authored within the current 10.5 beta cycle so use a recent version of VPX for it.  Fast Flips are also enabled by default so make scripts and accompanying files
are up to date.

Have Fun - Dozer.

This is one of Gottlieb's pins that I would want to own. :D

Is there a simple way to change the look of the whole playfield.  Its looks kinda washed out with a greyish or milky look to it.  I see this on my own table that I'm trying to make.  I have tried the playfield material from another table, but with little success.  Thanks

It's a gamma issue with brighter monitors - it looks fine on my dev pc but I tried it on another machine today with a brighter monitor and it looked milky.   I'm going to release an update that allows adjustment of the flasher opacity.

Table has been updated to 1.4 - 2 new options at start of script to reduce fogging.  < overview of settings in script.

wow thanks.  Support for paid programs is not this good.  I changed in the script to 80 & 1 and it looks great now.  Thanks for your quick update.

I also had to watch Tod Tuckey's TNT video about this classic game.  Knowing how to play makes it much more fun.

Hi - and thanks very much for the table / your efforts  :otvclap:

Is there a simple reason anyone can think of that I would not be getting sounds from this table??

Thanks in advance.

Sorry - I am showing as a 1st poster without doing an intro- I was on here years and years ago as Wotto , like way way back when table images were just stating to get collected / supplied for the original VP tables.

So I have re-registered recently as VPX and the great cabinet builds have re-sparked my interest in this great program - hi all to anyone that may recall me ( doubt many will :(

That means the SYS80.VBS file from VPX 10.5 is not up to date, (or you have an old SYS80.VBS file in your tables folder)
