File Name: Christmas Pinball (Arkon 1980) MOD

File Submitter: xenonph

File Submitted: 21 Dec 2017

File Category: VPX/VPinMAME - MOD Tables

Author(s): VPX table by Lizard
Graphics and Sound Mod by Xenonph
DOF script by rsperanza
Manufacturer: Original
Year: 1980
ROM: Link to ROM
Permission to MOD?: Unspecified

Christmas Pinball (Arkon 1980) MOD v4.2

v4.2
Added the music to Sound Manager, so no Music folders to mess with.
v4.1
Converted mp3's to ogg format, and scripted music to be played from Christmas folder.
(Place Christmas folder in your Music folder)
Added NVOffset script command, so not to interfere with other tables using same rom.
Added Cheat for projector pics.Press M Key to toggle pics, after game is started.
Also added wall30 to the plastic change.(The plastic right under middle Bumpercap)
Reduced resolution of a few pics.
Bumper pics were 4000x4000, now 1000x1000
Playfield pic was 2856x5922, now 1975x4096
Clear plastics pic was 4096x4096, now 1000x1000
Added 5 new Bumper pics to match Bumpercaps.
Added 5 new wrapping paper themed plastics, so now a total of 10 to toggle with Left Magna-Save.
Added more BumperCap pics for a total of 38 to toggle with Right Magna-Save.
I made it so these changes can only be made while ball is not in play. So change these before you start a game.
This way you can't accidently hit the buttons while playing game.
(Choose your plastics first, as the BumperCap pics are hard coded to change with plastics.)
Added animated Snow Globe on apron. Uses modified script that HiRez00 taught me to use.
You can remove Snow Globe from apron with option at top of script. (It is on by Default)
All of these new additions only added 10 more MB's to the table file size, thanks to some editting.
Christmas Pinball (Arkon 1980) MOD v4.1 VPX7.2
v4.1
Converted all pics to WebP format to reduce overall size of table.(VPX7.2 Required)
Converted Wav files in sound manager to ogg format which reduces file size.

Added 5 new Bumper pics to match Bumpercaps.
Added 5 new wrapping paper themed plastics, so now a total of 10 to toggle with Left Magna-Save.
Added more BumperCap pics for a total of 38 to toggle with Right Magna-Save.

You can remove Snow Globe from apron with option at top of script. (It is on by Default)
All of these new additions only added 10 more MB's to the table file size, thanks to some editting.
Even with all of these new additions, the Table file size went from 120 MB's down to 55.5 MB's thanks to OGG and WebP format conversions.
v3.1
New DOF scripted by rsperanza.(Huge thanks!!!)
Colors changed to Christmas colors, and MX flasher shapes to spell HO HO
If users get the latest DOF configs, they will see the HO HO MX flashers that went in yesterday.  The previous config went in a few months ago.
Users may also need a newer version of VPinMAME (Version with VPMAlias.txt in VpinMAME folder) if the updated rom name isn’t recognized.

v3.0
Added JP's LUT script to table. Toggled by pressing 2 Key (Buy-In Key)
Moved GI Lights color change to 3 Key
Added Modified script that combines JP's Lut script with STAT's Plastics change script.
The result being now when you make plastics change or bumper change, they are saved and loaded on next play of table!
Plastics change is toggled with Left Magna-Save, Bumper Change with Right Magna-Save.
Included some DMD extras that HiRez00 made for his cabinet to go with his animated fireplace backglass.

v2.0
Connected flashers to coin insert, and other events.
Adjusted FS POV so table is wider.
Fixed DT Backdrop lights.
Added Plastics change to Left MagnaSave Key.(5 different colors to choose from.)
Added Bumper change to Right MagnaSave Key.(23 different "Bows and Ornaments" to choose from.)
Added GI Lights color change to 2 or Buy-In Key.(5 different colors to choose from.)
Added GI effect to hit events. (Used JPSalas script method.)
So now the GI lighting blinks if you hit Upper Kicker, and drain,(blinks while Santa says ho ho ho), and lower targets only when a new pic is displayed.
Added coin sound on Insert coin event.
Included 3 wheels for cabinet users.
Included new animated Fireplace dB2S backglass, with table download. (28 frames of animation!!)
(I want to thank my friend HiRez00 for animating the flames in the fireplace backglass!!)
(He did an amazing job!! I think it is perfect for setting the Christmas Pinballin' mood!!)

v1.0

Added 32 Christmas songs. 11 are played during game. 21 more are played during attract mode. 1 of 3 music box songs is played with drain hit.
Also added over 23 sound effects.
Added 3 flashers using Fluppers Flasher Resource table (Big Thanks Flupper!!) . Red, Green and Blue. Triggered by bumpers and other areas.
Added "plungerreleasefree" sound effect from BorgDogs Buck Rogers VPX table, so if no ball is in plunger, it plays "plungerreleasefree" sound effect, and no others.
I added 76 pics to the projector.
These pics are activated in order.
They are activated by hitting the upper SANTA Rollovers,(Not the SANTA on left side above kicker.), and the "A" (Center Target), and spelling SANTA.
Then any subsequent hit on CANDY targets, or the A in SANTA,(Center Target.), triggers next pic.

**********************************************************

The table I used for this mod is Lizards amazing VPX Sexy Girl (Arkon 1980)!!(Which is a Conversion Kit mod of Playboy.)
I want to thank Lizard for making an excellent table, and for allowing mods without permission.
I also want to thank anyone else involved!! Great Work Everyone!!

Info on Lizards original table download page...
This table has come to life with the contributions of many.
Thanks go to Destruk and Mickey for the original table
ICPjuggla and gtxjoe for bits and pieces i used from there bally playboy table
Arngrim for the DOF and controller code
Steely, pinball Ken,Koadic,Jimmyfingers and Rascal for all the ball rolling and associated code
Cyberpez for the changeable instruction cards (Which can be changed near the top of the script)
Seraph74 who provided the projector code mods to swap the images
Hauntfreaks did a shadow mask for the shadows and i also used his environment image as well
JP for his ball and scratches images

See original tables download page for more info.

http://www.vpforums....showfile=12130#

Remember to thank the original authors of this table, as they are the ones who made this work of art.
I just added sound effects and changed graphics.

I also want to thank Steve "Slydog43" for which these table mods would not be possible to make if it weren't for his help!!

I also want to thank Thalamus for telling me about the rubber hit height needing to be lowered to 27, because it was set at 30, and this will cause weird ball behaviour. I only lowered the ones that were set on 30. So the physics should be better.

I also would like to thank Allknowing2012 and Gtxjoe for helping me with adding timers to script. With Gtxjoes example script he showed me, I was able to somewhat fix the game over sounds, and when counting huge bonus after ball drain.

I also want to thank HiRez00 for animating the flames on the Fireplace backglass!! Simply amazing!!

**********************************************************

YOU CAN ADD YOUR OWN FAMILY PICS TO THIS TABLES PROJECTOR!!!
MAKE THIS CHRISTMAS SPECIAL, BY PLAYING A PINBALL TABLE THAT HAS YOUR PERSONAL PHOTOS DISPLAYED DURING GAME!!
HERE IS HOW YOU ADD YOUR PICS...

FIRST YOU NEED TO NAME YOUR PICS LIKE SO..
"pic0" IS THE PIC THAT IS DISPLAYED WHEN GAME IS STARTED. SO IF YOU WANT TO SURPRISE A SPECIAL SOMEONE, SO THEY DON'T SEE PIC UNTIL PROJECTOR IS ACTIVATED, START WITH NAMING "pic1"
IF YOU WANT YOUR PIC DISPLAYED WHEN TABLE IS STARTED, NAME YOUR PIC "pic0"

pic0
pic1
pic2
pic3
pic4
pic5
pic6
pic7
pic8
pic9
pic10

and so on...

SO NOW THAT YOU HAVE NAMED YOUR PICS, YOU NEED TO IMPORT THEM INTO THE TABLE.
THIS IS VERY EASY, SO DON'T GET OVERWHELMED.
WITH THE TABLE LOADED INTO THE VISUAL PINBALL EDITOR, CLICK THE "TABLE" TAB AT TOP OF EDITOR. THEN CLICK "IMAGE MANAGER"
YOU WILL NOW SEE ON UPPER RIGHT OF WINDOW THAT POPS UP, A TAB THAT SAYS "IMPORT", CLICK IT AND BROWSE TO YOUR PIC OR PICS AND IMPORT THEM.
THAT'S IT!!! BE SURE TO SAVE TABLE AFTERWARDS TO KEEP YOUR PICS IN TABLE.
NOW ENJOY THE SHOW!!!

*************************************************************************************

You can set this table for 4 players game and the pics don't start over for new player, so you can progress through the pics with each of the 4 players turns.

I included a nvram file that will give you the easiest settings to try to accomplish viewing all 76 pics.
You can change these settings by pressing F6 on your keyboard, which will bring up dipswitch menu.
(The included nvram file has the easiest settings!! Also playing 4 player game helps!!!)

(PLACE INCLUDED MUSIC IN MUSIC FOLDER LOCATED WHERE VISUAL PINBALL IS INSTALLED)

I HAVE MADE 2 DIFFERENT dB2S BACKGLASSES. ONE IS A FIREPLACE, AND THE OTHER IS SANTAS WORKSHOP.
THEY ARE INCLUDED WITH THIS PACKAGE.
OR YOU CAN FIND THEM HERE...
http://www.vpforums....&showfile=13205

Also a new animated dB2S Fireplace backglass, animation made by HiRez00 included in download.

All pics, trademarks, Logos and sounds belong to their respectful owners. This table is for personal home, and non-commercial use only. This table should be used for educational purposes only.

Hope you enjoy!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Nice idea with the family pictures. Thank you for all your hard work. I guess you started a bit late since your WIP thread was updated at all hours :)

Thank you. Will load this table up when my family arrives - it is much better welcome table than eg Mr. Black ;)

Merry Xmas to you too Xenonph !

From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.

Very cool, thanks for this.

No problems with music files anyone?    Mine crashes at launch.  BASS music/sound library cannot load c:\visual pinball\Tables\Music\CPA20.mp3

The mp3s are all there, I can play em in the media player.   Click OK on the error and the table loads and plays.  Quite loudly.  :)   I turned music and sound sliders down to 10!

if I edit the script to load some other CPAxx.mp3, the error moves to the new mp3 filename.   If I move to an mp3 filename from championsleague table..   it plays fine with no error...

Thanks for the kind words!!

I ran out of likes!!

To those who may have trouble with music playing...

DO NOT PLAY ANY OF THE MUSIC WITH YOUR MEDIA PLAYER!!

That goes for any table that comes with mp3 music files.

If you played them in your media player, more than likely they will be useless in table, as media players usually will add tags to the mp3.

If you ask any table author who adds mp3 music files to tables, they will tell you that they have had to remove those tags before the music would work on table.

I make sure all tags are removed. I also test each mp3 to make sure it works with table before releasing it.

Not sure if this is what caused your error, but sounds like mp3 tags being added to mp3 files, by playing them in a media player.

Maybe try downloading table again, and just copy music over to music folder, without playing any of them in your media player.

Hope this helps.

mmm

I mistakenly put these mp3s in visualpinball\tables\music folder.

I moved em to visualpinball\music and it's all good now.

I did a review of your terrific table on the other site and am looking forward to scanning some old family pictures and importing them to the table.....this is one of the coolest features of the new table in my opinion. Family members are going to love seeing themselves pop up on the playfield.

I have a couple questions regarding that process.....once my pictures are named and imported will they be shown in addition to the already installed 74 pictures or will only my photos be displayed? Do I need to disable the default pictures somehow?
I’m assuming I can pick and choose any combo of my photos and the default pictures? Is there a maximum number of family pictures that I can import and that will be read?
Where is the folder of all the pictures/ photos kept?
Thanks again Xenonph for this table and for making my Christmas!!

@JPSalas...

Your Smurf Whitewater mod is what got me into working on these tables!! I can't thank you enough!! Glad you like the table!!

@ Johngreve

Your personal pics will take the place of the Santa pics. All pics are stored in the Image Manager inside the table. There is no folder. You can click the Image Manager and browse through the pics. Besides being able to import your pics into Image Manager, you can also export pics, by pressing export in the Image Manager.

When you add a pic with same name as one in the Image Manager, it will take its place. So no need to delete any pics if you don't want to.

Also the shape of the projector, should be shape of pic you are using. (Tall pics work best, as wide pics will seem stretched when viewed in projector.)

Glad you like it!!

Hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas!!

EDIT:

There are 76 pics for projector.

You can add as many pics as you like!! But if you go over the number 76, you will have to go into table script and edit Line 746...

Line 746   scount = 76        ' How many different screens?

Change scount to number of pics you have.

I added over 300 Dossier pics to GIJOE table!!

I will be adding more Christmas pics to this table, as I was rushed to get out before Christmas!! (I wanted to add alot more!!)

I have a huge collection of Thomas Kinkade pics of snowy cottages and such.

So I just updated this Christmas table lastnight with some extra options, and goodies.

(Wait until you see the dB2S backglass included with download!! Animated flames in Fireplace!!)

Here is what I did..

v2.0
Connected flashers to coin insert, and other events.
Adjusted FS POV so table is wider.
Fixed DT Backdrop lights.
Added Plastics change to Left MagnaSave Key.(5 different colors to choose from.)
Added Bumper change to Right MagnaSave Key.(23 different “Bows and Ornaments” to choose from.)
I think it is perfect for setting the Christmas Pinballin’ mood!!)

Hope you all enjoy this table for Christmas!!

Carry on.

EDIT:

This was the first table I ever added flashers too, one year ago.

Hopefully I have gotten a little better than I was before.

Wow!!
I’ve been thinking about this for some time and was hoping that the animated fireplace would show up this Christmas.
Boom! Here it is!
I know last year you said you ran out of time and would do it for this year.....I was keeping my fingers crossed as I love this table and the music....I just leave it loaded up and let her run. It great to just leave it in the attract mode and listen to the music.Plays great too...I’ve got a lot of my childhood photos loaded in....so nostalgic. Thanks again!!
Can’t wait to download this tonight and give her a spin.
Thanks to you and HiRez for bringing this to life.
Merry Christmas!

Here are some DMD extras that HiRez00 made for his cabinet to go with animated fireplace backglass.

Included is a Color RealDMD 128x32 Video, and DMD Image, for your front end software like PinballX.

https://www.dropbox....128x32.zip?dl=0

Make sure to turn 'OFF' the 'Hide DMD' option in PinballX

Enjoy!!

I'm very new to VP and I'm hoping to surprise my family with a fun pinball machine. This christmas themed mod is a perfect way to present my gift. The problem I'm having is the projector doesn't seem to move from the first picture. I've tried the 'M' key. It did run once, but I don't know how/why it started.

Hoping that this thread still gets attention before christmas.

Thanks

I added a Cheat where you can press the A key, while the ball is in the plungerlane, and it will toggle the projector pics.

Otherwise, you need to hit the upper rollovers, and the center target, before the projector pics are started. Then each consecutive hit on the CANDY targets, or the Center target will toggle next projector pic.

I include an nvram with the table package, that has a 5 ball setting, and it is set on easy for the upper rollovers, (It lights up 2 rollovers, for 1 rollover hit.), which makes it easier to get the projector pics started.
