Hi Guys,

I am hoping someone can shed some light on why I can not get my pinDMD V3 to work. I will lay out the scenario below.

1. I have powered up and connected the display to my windows 10 64bit pinball

"as per install instructions it did not need drivers and installed up as "USB Serial Device Com3"

2. I downloaded the Bass.dll, Vpinmame.dll, pinDMD.dll from pinDMD.com and installed over my current working installation of VP

3. I ran Install from VpinMame setup, and changed my default settings to include use DMD option.

4. I have run numerous roms to test the dmd but nothing has worked

5. I  then downloaded the pinDMDconfig, and found in the log file that (locating device, creating connection both failed)

6. Back to the drawing board I scoured the forums and found Toxie's  VPinMAME27_Minimal_PinDMD3 file and installed that over the top of my previous files and repeated step 3 above.

7. still nothing, this is driving me barmy!!!!

So its time to ask for a fresh set of eye's to look over what I have done and if I have missed a critical step in this operation....

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks :)

I remember this happened to me with windows 7. What I did as a last resort was to buy a cheap cord off ebay where one end was usb and the other was a connector that matched the pins on the pindmd. Once I had two USB cords running into my computer everything worked fine and it recozed the pindmd and I really didnt have to do anything right out of th box Maybe that might work for you. WOrth a try.

You need the latest pinDMD.dll from pindmd.com and try again :) (new dll handles win10 much better)

Received forum email saying you managed to get this working. But replies are not showing up here?

Anyway in reply to email. pinDMD3 does not receive power from the pc(like pinDMD2 did) it requires its own power source. USB can not supply enough current to power the display. The install guide does mention this at the top :)

Glad you got it sorted.

COMPLETELY FRUSTRATED!   I've tried everything people have listed on the forums (downloading pindmd.dll  etc from the pindmd website), even reinstalled VP completely.  pindmd 3 WILL NOT WORK!  I mean, it works -it's recognized by windows (10) and I can run the tests.  But the tables will not recognize it.  I get the "Pindmd not found error."   But if I uncheck the "Use pindmd" box in the game settings, the tables work.  I've tried different configurations (checking and unchecking cabinet mode, checking and unchecking "Display dmd").  If I don't get the "pinDMD not found" error", my system just locks up completely.  I realize this is probably a Windows problem (I really hate them!), but I need some help with this please.  Thx.

It seems that the official pindmd3 support is not the best these days. No postings or answers for a long time.

Maybe you give this version a try

Most support occurs by contacting [email protected]. It's provided daily.

Your assumption is completely untrue. I suggest being informed prior to posting such nonsense.

We can setup a time to network, if you like, and I can see what I can do for you.

Thank you.

I've never seen a support problem on forums. If you ask for help you will get help :)

Noah Fentz thanks for your response. Your assistance is much appreciated! How do we setup a support call? Do I just call Virtuapin? I thought that was just the sale point and the support was based in England.

What do you have now? Our PinDMD3 is identical to the LED/plasma DMDs in real machines.

If that's not helpful, I can send you dims Monday morning.

We can setup a time to network, if you like, and I can see what I can do for you.
Thank you.

Russ and I share the responsibility, depending on the issue. He may actually be more help in this situation, as he setup the signed drivers on win 10.

Email me ([email protected]), and we'll conference.

For all you folks with a similar problem,  I seemed to have solved it and here's how.  First of all, I reached out to Paul at VirtuaPin who gives INCREDIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!   All you have to do is call him.   (Hear that, CaptFlam?)  Anyway, he put me directly in touch with Russ in England who designed the pinDMD 3 who is also a fantastic guy to deal with -very pleasant and helpful.   Although none of us are quite certain, it seems my Win 10 registry was messed up.  I ran a program called DLL Care to fix my registry.  After that, everything worked.  So it might have been some critical windows file necessary for the overall health of my computer that was missing -not anything to do with the pindmd hardware or software.  Now if I can only get Pinball X 2.28 to work properly...

Ohh I see, you have to call him to get an answer to a support request in the forum. That makes sense

It makes perfect sense, actually. Who posts on a forum instead of directly contacting the business from which something was purchased? That makes sense? Really?

I answer the phone and reply to emails, constantly, throughout the entire day. I check the forum maybe two to three times daily. See the flaw in your argument yet? I certainly do.

You can quit trolling now. I'm getting really tired of it.

Thank you.

So basically if you are having the "PinDMD not found" issue when trying to run tests in VPinMame, then my fix is to download DLL Care and run the registry clean up?  DMD works for me in Pinball X, just not Visual Pinball at the moment.
