File Name: Punchy The Clown_FS (TAB Mod)

File Submitter: edizzle

File Submitted: 30 Nov 2014

File Category: VP/VPinMAME 9.x - MOD Tables

Author(s): TAB
Edizzle
Manufacturer: Alvin G
Year: 1993
ROM: Link to ROM
Permission to MOD?: Yes, without approval

Hello.  This is a FS mod, with permission from TAB (Thank you TAB) of Alvin G. Company's Punchy the Clown.  This is an interesting, smaller sized redemption pin with only 103 made.  There is an issue with playing in redemption mode.  It will work, but will keep saying tickets are jammed or out of tickets, please call attendant.  To avoid this, please follow the below steps to change it to regular mode:

Press 7 to get to Adjustments Menu

Press 7 to get to Standard Adjustments

Press 7 to get to Game Style adjustments

Press 7 to get to allow adjustments

Press 9 or 0 to toggle between Redemption mode and Regular mode.

Press 7 to select regular mode

Press 8 until you are out of the menu screen.  Sometimes it does not restart the game.  If this happens, press F3 to reset.

Updates include fading light routine, redrawn playfield and plastics, added sounds, added some primitives.  added cannon feature.  Moved auto Launch to drain.

I'm not 100% sure that the rollover switches on the top work as they should.  (The ones that light "P" "I" "E").  It seems any of the three switches will light the letters sequentially.  All in all, a novelty pin but enjoyable and unique.  An interesting fact about this game is Alvin G Co. used the switch flippers on this game, though their patented technology for those flippers are not actually used in this game (it was used for their Soccer/Football game to simulate playing against someone).  they used the flippers apparently to save on production costs.  Hope you enjoy.  If anyone wants to improve the table in any way, such as adding in the ticket dispensing functionality, please feel free to do so.

I just posted my quick dB2s. Nothing major - just a few lamps matched to the playfield and the scoring on 2nd screen. The scoring can be easily moved to 3rd screen if you want to run it in 3 screen mode (as I do myself).

Edit: I've added my nvram as well. There are 2 versions - one is freeplay and the 2nd is coin.

thank you Edizzle :)

Thanks everyone for the feedback and open61 for sharing the nvram.  Sorry Argrim...I forgot to send it to you before submitting.  Yes, it is definitely a silly game...but just for it's uniqueness I think it was worth preserving.  Hehe.

Also, you will see there is a plastic decal with an ape on it to the right of the table, just below the "test your strength" captive ball area.  I forgot to move that after I adjusted the table size right before I submitted it.  It should be sitting right below the "whimpy" light.  You can easily move it if you go into the editor and click on the backglass button. You will see the plastic appears as a blue box in the editor.  Sorry.

Absolutely it was worth preserving! My kids really like it and I do too although it gets old a little fast.

You did a wonderful job it looks and plays great, thank you very much for taking the time to build it.

By the way, the ROM sound is a little low compared to game sound but I can't find an option to make it louder, Anyone see how to do that?

P.S. I'll be sending you the bill for the first week of therapy for my Coulrophobia,!

Haha, yeah, my daughter is not sure what to make of the clown face.  Punchy also makes some weird sounds.  Like when he gets hit off the dunk tank...haha.

For the Rom sound, you can press 9 and 0 anytime during the game to increase/decrease the volume, though I think there are only seven levels of sound, or something not very granular.
