Been trying to run DX9 and Phys Mod versions of Visual Pinball, but I get a cannot open "Core.VBS" followed by " Can not open "WPC.VBS", folowed by "Can't Load VPinMAME" plus more. My 9.2.1 runs OK though. What am I doing wrong to get DX9 and Phys MOD versions to run ?????

Did you copy the exe into the same directory where 9.2.1 lives?

Yeah, I did. Doesn't make sense to me. I did get one of the test tables to run, but I can't load a real table and try to adjust it etc

I don't know then. Try running as administrator, though AFAIK it shouldn't be necessary in the latest DX9 versions. Best you can do is probably wait for the official DX9 installer, which shouldn't be far off now. If 9.2.1 can open the vbs script files and the DX9 version can't... I really don't know what could cause this except different working directories.

Thanks. I tried running as administrator, that didn't work. Seems odd to me,but I'll keep trying. Thanks

Those vbs files need to be in the same folder as the test table. If you're say copying a test physmod table into some other place and trying to run it not from inside the tables directory, that would explain it. Those vbs files aren't pathed by VP. They're suppose to sit next to the table vpt file.

They are. Again, my 9.2.1 runs fine, and the DX9 and Phys Mod versions sit right beside 9.2.1in the same folder. I even tried reloading VBS Scripts and still got he same result.

BigBoss meant that also the table files you are trying to open have to be in the proper directory (the one with the vbs scripts).

If they are, the only thing left to recommend you is running Process Monitor and figuring out which files VP is trying to open, and why it's failing.

I am not sure, can we use dx9 test15 physics mod for all tables?

You cannot run any of the same tables along side physmod and regular. Every table requires drastic updates. I've created an entirely new directory for physmod. Although this doesn't impact your vbs issue. I assumed you had a converted test table and didn't stick it into the same tables directory.

No, I am simply trying to load a normal table. It loads into the editor. I tried to run it unmodified just to see what it does, both DX9 and Phys Mod. It's then, when I push Play that I get all the errors

or maybe the tables you are loading have not the vpinmame.controller as default, but the b2s. Nearly all the latest FS tables have that B2S as default.

So check the first lines in the script and see if have this line

Set Controller = CreateObject("VPinMAME.Controller")

instead of this:

Controller = CreateObject("B2S.Server")

(some authors have a small menu where you can choose the controller you are using, other may be both lines there with one commented)

(and remember if you have a ' in front that means the line is commented, so it is not executed)

The tables load into the editor ok, when I try to get them to play that's when all the errors occur. I think I messed things up at the very beginning. I had sold my previous cabinet, (everything ran fine including DX9) and saved my entire visual pinball folder to a flash drive. I tried to simply drag and drop the visual pinball folder from the flash drive to a new install of Windows 7 and get it to run that way. It didn't work, and from there I tried re-installing VPinMame etc from the versions on the flash drive. Ultimately I had a mess on my hand. I then began to re download and start from scratch, but I never wiped everything out, I just tried to overwrite. I eventually got 9.2.1 running but the DX9 and Physmod versions would pop up all the above listed errors. Tomorrow I think I will reinstall Windows and really start from scratch. I was thinking of installing Windows 8.1. Anybody running VP on that successfully? Or should I stick with Windows 7

Did you also save your registry settings?

If not, I think that's causing the errors.

With regedit go into the registry and export the following keys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Freeware\Visual PinMame

and

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Visual Pinball

Good luck

Hyper, Thanks so much. This solved all my problems. I had almost given up and was going to reinstall Windows, but this saved my bacon. What exactly does this do ??? I'd just like to know for future reference.....and thanks again
