File Name: The Sopranos VP915
File Submitter: jpsalas
File Submitted: 20 Mar 2013
File Category: VPinMAME 9.x Recreations
Author(s): jpsalas, bodydump
Manufacturer: Stern
Year: 2005
Permission to MOD?: No

Based on the Stern table from 2005, The Sopranos.

ROM sounds extracted by destruk.
Script for playing the rom sounds also by destruk (and maybe also Gaston)

Thanks to:
- bodydump for the playfiend and plastics
- deadrock for the real table pictures and video
- oldskoolgamer for play testing
- grizz for the flasher templates

The table is configured to play the sounds through emulation. But if your computer is old then you may want to to use the samples to release a little cpu power. To do that you change a line in the script Const RomSounds = 1 by Const RomSounds = 0. But if your computer is older then I guess you'll need to make some more adjustments :)

The table is meant to be played with the newer/beta version of VP915, even if it is not officially released, it plays very well. The table could be played with VP914, since it doesn't contain many alpha ramps or primitives. But since I made the table using a newer version, so it requires VP915 rev 434 or higher. Trying to load the table with an older VP will just give you an error about a corrupted file.

I got a new monitor :) So now my tables are set to be played with a wide monitor (16:9). So if you have a 4:3 monitor or a 16:9 monitor you should change the XScale to it doesn't look distorted. To calculate the right width, this is the value of the XScale, use these formulas:

4:3 screen: The XScale is the same as the YScale
16:9 screen: The XScale is the YScale multiplied by 0.75
16:10 screen: The XScale is the YScale multiplied by 0.83

This way the ball and the table won't look distorted, too wide or too thin.

This table is finished, but I still want to add some more GI effects. Due to Eastern coming and I won't be home, then it is better to released it now, and when I come back home I'll see if I can add some more GI effects.

Looks great as always.

How come you switched to a 16:9 monitor?  As somebody who works on my monitor most of the day, for me I find 16:10 to be perfect.  Also I like to set VP tables to 16:10 for release, because a lot of people end up not bothering tweaking x-scale, & so at 16:10, if somebody is on 4:3 or 16:9, it still looks OK since 16:10 is in between.

Also I love 16:10 for backdrops, because a single backdrop in 16:10 can look OK in both 4:3 & 16:9 (again, since it lies in between).

But just from a playing perspective, I find 16:10 to be optimal for desktop pinball.  IDK, 16:10 view just seems to fit my field of view perfectly & you always get higher resolution & more pixels with 16:10 monitors.

Btw, I think you have your 16:10 & 16:9 x-scale math reversed.  16:9 should be multiplied by .75 (not .83), & vice versa for 16:10.

Love the table but have a slower PC and the ROM sounds are a little crackly, so I need to use the samples.  When I punch in the "0" I loose the ROM sounds but get no samples. I know I'm doing something wrong but what?

Yes, the math was reversed :) That happens for typing when I'm half sleep, hahaha.

Why I change to a 16:9 monitor? Because here in Norway it is nearly impossible to find 16:10 monitors. It is like they have disappeared. And I wanted a monitor which I could turn on vertically to test the FS tables without turning my head :)

I see, you loose the music, but you get all the voices and effects. It did have the music before, so I guess I did something wrong in the script.

Really?  16:10 isn't quite as popular (because 16:9 are cheaper to make), but it really isn't that hard to find one here in the states, you just have to pay a bit more $$.  Which is fine with me because I prefer nice IPS panels anyways.  Also, the last 3 16:10 monitors I've had can all rotate.  But with the mess on my desk it can still be hard to rotate without knocking stuff over!

Too bad you don't live in the states, I actually have a spare 16:10 IPS panel that rotates that I'm selling.

I really hope 16:10 don't vanish completely.  I'm hoping there are enough people like myself who see the value in them & want to buy them.

thank you JP.

I'm really happy because I've never test this table in real life.

Congratulations for this achievement. :otvclap:

I'm getting an error that I need SEGA.VBS 3.38 script.  Table will load but then gives this error and won't play.  The error I get that stops the game says BSize not defined in line 772.  Happens when I press start.  Using VP915 rev 476

Thanks JP works great now!   Excellent job as always!  :otvclap:

I never actually watched the show, I like the table though, but was just curious what's up with the talking fish?  I get the old mob saying "He sleeps with the fish"   I guess I need to go see if Netflix has the show and check out some episodes.

Try to install last core.vbs & see if that solves the issue : http://www.vpforums....ads&showfile=17

Thank you very much for the new VP9 version of your amazing Sopranos table. The table looks and plays fantastic.

The wave sounds and music works very well after your new upload.

@JPSalas, if you want the german wavs for the german pinball Fans (for the not "rom emulated version"), please let me know.

I can send the 22MB package to you then.

regards

I got the same error first.

You have to download the newest VBS pack (3.40?) and extract to the SAME folder than the table is.

Fixed for me, and i won't sleep today haha :)

Yes, I added that in the script, mostly to test if the numbering of the core.vbs was still working. And yes, it was working! And I forgot to put back an older vbs number, but it is good like it is. Now people became aware that exist a new revision of the scripts :)

Thanks Bolt, I think I have them from the old VP8 table. But I only added the samples in case someone may still have an older computer, but I think most people have now a better computer. But if someone ask, then it is good to know that those waves exist.

Thank you very much, great job.
For those like me who have problems with the refresh of the ball in the drain zone, this is my setting :

Scale 1,33

Y Offset 118

Thanks

Max
