Adventure

Version: RC1
Category: VP 8.x Originals

Author(s): Eala Dubh Sidhe

Description:
An oldie from 2001 by Eala Dubh, from the Atari 2600 game.
RULES

Ball through E-N-T lanes scores 500 points and spots letter. Ball through lane when roving chalice light is lit advances and flashes Magnet Saucer value to 10,000 points, then 15,000, 20,000, 25,000, 30,000, Special, and 30,000 points thereafter. Magnet Saucer when not flashing scores 3000 points. Flashing value must be scored before value can be advanced again.

A-D-V and U-R-E drop targets score 500 points and spot letters. Dropping A-D-V bank lights White Castle rollover. Dropping U-R-E bank lights Black Castle rollover. Castle rollovers score 500 points or score 3000 points and spot one letter when lit.

Center rollover scores 1000 points and lights Sword Power timer target if Sword Power is unlit. Hitting target within time limit relights Sword Power ball saver (CTRL key) for one additional use.

Outlanes score 1000 points and spot one letter.

Ball through return lane scores 500 points and awards Extra Ball when lit.

Center bullseye targets score 300 points. Completing target bank lights Magic Bridge spinner lane to advance bonus multiplier to 2X, 3X, 4X and 5X, then Special. Magic Bridge lane also scores 3000 points.

A-T-A-R-I spot targets score 300 points and spot letters. Completing A-T-A-R-I lights lower left jet bumper to score 1000 points.

Completing A-D-V-E-N-T-U-R-E lights spinner to score 1000 points.

Lit letters advance outhole bonus by 1000 points each. Completing A-T-A-R-I and A-D-V-E-N-T-U-R-E:

First time: lights 14,000 bonus, opens lane to Bat's Lair ball lock and resets letters and rollovers.
Second time: lights 28,000 bonus, lights return lane to award Extra Ball, lights Special and resets letters and rollovers.
Third time: awards Special.

Bat's Lair ball lock scores 5000 points. Once ball is locked, next Magnet Saucer shot releases locked ball for two-ball play. All playfield scores are doubled for duration of multiball.

Special awards one replay.

One replay awarded for each score of 520,000 points.
One replay awarded for each score of 780,000 points.

Matching the last two score digits against the displayed number at the end of the game awards one replay.

Taking the score past 999,990 and looping back to zero awards three replays.

Beating the high score awards three replays.

Tilt penalty: ball in play.

nice funny table, only the fonts (credits, match& game over) dont seem to work for me they are way to big andsuppose not as intended. I copied two fonts SFATAR~1 and TRANA___ to my vista fonts folder. The ~1 mght hint that the name of the font is corrupted but i dont know where to look for the correct name.

doesanyone have a clue for me.

thx for this nice table

Make sure that if you're playing this 4:3 table on a widescreen monitor that you haven't got your screen set too wide - if you don't ensure to keep aspect ratio the fonts will look messed up (& the rest of the table will not look as originally designed).

@Wizards_Hat

adjusting resolution (changed back to 1024x768 from 1680x1050) did create more space for the credits, match etc. but font still doesnt look right to me.

thx for your reply

PS my font does differ from that on the screenshot, so I still think the font is the problem

You may need to do more than just change the resolution - on my on-board graphics I need to go into Advanced Settings => Driver Graphics Properties => Display Settings => Aspect Ratio Settings & then set it to "maintain aspect ratio" (by default it was on full screen (no border).

There may be an easier way to get to those settings on your pc (maybe even on mine wink.gif) or your graphics card, but you really need to ensure that you maintain aspect ratio as well as have the correct resolution.

Think just using windowed mode with the correct (an 4:3) resolution should do the trick, but it doesnt solve my problem.

to be continued, wink.gif

Well think I solved it, at least on my system.

Copying the font to the font folder in vista wasnt enough the fonts need to be installed.
Then I decreased the fontsize of the ScoreBox, CreditBox and BallMatchBox from 36 to 28 points
And centered the CreditBox and BallMatchBox

For me the table now looks like how the table was intended to look.

After reading a JPSalas quote in the 'Riverboat Gambler' thread from earlier today where he said he regarded Eala as a Guru, got me thinking about some of the great tables Eala produced so many years ago in the early days of VP. This one along with Wacky Racers really stood out and stick in the mind.

I first played this table around 7 years ago and at the time I couldn't believe something so original and professional could be produced using the VP Editor. The design is superb and the sounds effects very cleverly matched to the action. Nowadays I mainly play fullscreen cabinet tables, but if anyone hasn't tried this one then they should - especially if you owned an Atari VCS and the Atari Adventure cartridge. Nostalgia!

I was gonna' ask if he would build it in vp9 but if it already works there, I'm just (for my own personal table) gonna' mod it a bit (rails around it, walls, better posts, rubbers... as I too still have and play the hell out of this table! I grew up on gaming (D&D, finally creating my own system 20 years ago, having gotten too fed up with D&D's rule set! but that is for another post.)) if ya' want when I get done with it I can pm ya' and if you like it you can repost the table as a modded version (I only work in vp9 btw!) just a thought... but thanks for the repost of it as it still is holding up well, in spite of looking dated, all these years...cool.gif
and adventure was the first video game that had anything to do with dragons and wizards and involved running around trying not to get killed similar to any d&d setting! so natch I had to have this pin, getting it years ago and loving every minute of it, not unlike banjo-Kazooie, (an impossibly tough table with over 15 levels of 'evented' game play!)

Yes please Faralos if you do modify it then it would be great to see it - thanks. I would love to see a FS version of this but I guess a lot of the artwork would need to be upgraded resolution-wise so probably a lot of work. After my earlier post I setup the Atari VCS emulator this afternoon (Stella) and my two boys have been playing the Advenure ROM on the PC with an Atari USB joystick. They have played the game before and really love it. It just goes to show that it is not always about graphics and processing power but gameplay! Cheers

Also if you play it on widescreen, the flippers are farther apart (for some extra challenge). biggrin.gif

I think Eala will eventually port this baby to vp9 himself. I stopped playing it in vp9 because of the nudging.

It took me a couple years before i realized that this table had a 3rd button and a shield post LOL.

haha smile.gif

When you first start the game it is lit and activated, then after you use it, you have to roll over that button switch to the left of the top bumpers...and then that will cause the sword power target to flash for awhile on the left of the playfield where you lock balls for multiball. This is how you get it activated again.

It is hidden now, since you covered up the display by converting the table to FS.  When the table takes up the whole screen, of course no more room for the display (DMD).  If you are on a cab, see if there is a B2S or UVP available for this table.  It is a pretty old original so I doubt it.  I think there should be though as I'm a fan of Eala's originals.  Would love to see them updated for VP9.
