File Name: Guns N' Roses VP920 FS Alpha MOD NM

File Submitter: teppotee

File Submitted: 25 Oct 2012

File Category: VP 9.x MOD Cabinet Tables (FULL SCREEN)

Author(s): JPSalas
Lord Hiryu
teppotee (MOD)
Manufacturer: Data East
Year: 1994
Permission to MOD?: Yes, with approval

MOD to Guns And Roses table originally by Lord Hiryu and JP!

My changes include:
- Added alpha ramps (red, yellow and green)
- Added few GI elements (for bumpers and outlanes)
- Reworked metal ramps for plunger lane and up-kicker based on images from ipdb
- Modified flipper / table physics (using JP's latest tables as a baseline as they play really well)
- Layback settings
- Added B2B collision sounds
- Updated flashers for the backboard and little GI for the plastics as well
- Fixed the red ramp so that the ball fits underneath
- Made the ramps smoother with additional control points
- Added missing kicker sounds
- And some other minor tweaks...

I recommend to check the UVP for this one as well!

I noticed that the Spinners and Gates have a line under and above.
If you want to eliminate the problem, the color of the Spinner/Gate (Editor) and transparency of the image of the Spinner/Gate should be the same.(Image Manager).
The problem is seen on all the spinners and gates.
For the support the lamp which crosses the plastic (Wall506), just lower it to 0.1.

Great update, thank you! :)

One problem though... I got the ball stuck twice at the same location, see the attached image. It wasn't possible to free the ball with nudging, had to exit the table.

I tried to do this but I must be doing something wrong... when adjusted the transparency of the image (Trans) to match the yellow color of Spinner1, the image transparency changed to some grayish color when I started to play the table and it didn't look right. Tried the same with RG Front, same result.

I'm not sure what exactly is meant here... which value should be changed for Wall506?

Thanks.

Didn't work for me either. You have to change the color of the gate itself to the transparency color - in this case: make the gates black.

I reduced the top height of Wall506 by 0,1 and the lamp is no longer breaking out of the plastic.

Honestly, I posted without trying the changes.
I think it will not work because the spinner uses a black image as transparency of the backside.
To operate the spinner must have its front image reflected horizontally and used for the back of the spinner.
Tomorrow check if it works.
Now I go to sleep.

Change spinner1, spinner2 and spinner4 to this and you;ll fix the underline issue:

Color = black
Front image = RG Front
Back image = RG Back

This is a nice update, thanks for all the hard work!

Yes, and for the Gate1 and Gate2

Color = black
Front image = Gate1
Back image = Gate1a

If you want to remove the top line of the gates, uncheck "Supports".

Thanks for the fix suggestions. I will upload an updated version with these changes in couple of days when I have time.

I can also take a look if there should be an invisible wall behind the red ramp to prevent the ball getting stuck.

Absolutely brilliant! The physics are spot on and the improved visuals look great. Thanks teppotee and to the lord for the original.

PS: the uvp is very active and plays super smooth. Thanks to FD for that.

hi teppotee, excellent job. very much appreciated..
one thing i notice is that the mystery kickout in the center of the table shoots the ball out an an angle that hits the left slingshot, then almost always drains down the middle. it is almost impossible to keep it from draining. is this an angle that needs to be adjusted?

also, how do you convert this table to desktop?. my friend would like to play it on his desktop setup...thanks/sparky

I have planned to do a small update to this table anyway to fix the remaining few graphic glitches mentioned in this thread. I will take a look at the kickout as well although I don't remember having problems with draining in there. Let's see.

No specific idea about the desktop conversion. I think this table should be angle independent so just play with the values in the backdrop section (rotation, inclination, layback etc.) Maybe first take the base values from some other desktop table. I don't use desktop tables so can't really comment more.

hi again teppotee, i have bee playing this table alot over the past few days. at least 100 games..

i have noticed that the DUFF captive ball gets stuck above the left pop bumper often.

i took me a while to figure out why i didnt see it in its normal resting area. i kept aiming for it, and nothing was happening, because the ball was stuck up top.
a little nudge was able to free the ball, but it happens alot.

also, i believe that the lights over the plungers are the wrong colors.
the right light should be red, and the left should be yellow.thanks again for this swesome table/sparky
