Figured we'd give a poll a go!

If the vote swings the other way to include Negative rep, I'd only like to see this with names visible to prevent anonymous "flaming". Negative rep can be good in some cases, but if you give out negative rep, it has to be a good reason and your name should be seen.

Too many requests for a 'like' or 'thanks' to have a NONE option, I think.
I'll add it, though. Who knows.

The forum had the "rating" system before. I found it quite useless. First, because most of the time it had zero ratings and second, because the second most rating was "five stars" with one vote. Alltogether this doesn't give me any useful information. Even if it's 100 people voting an average of 3.5 stars. I still would want to check out the download myself. And ratings for postings? Even less useful. Information overkill. But maybe that's how it is with this new social networking gibberish, which i find most strange.

I think negative rep will warn people to not feed the troll(s), and positive rep is just a nice vibe. I do think you should get a chance to lose negative rep, because some people clear up their act.

Did you know that "playing pinball" is called "flipperen" in Dutch? Now you know and may your life be enriched by this arcane knowledge....

May I ask what the overall intent or the purpose of the "reputation" is for? IMO we all establish our own rep's through the types of comments we leave anyway. Those who don't leave many comments don't have much rep; those that are trolls, well, they end up getting a bad reputation without needing an official monitor displaying it. And for those newbies that don't know people's reputations, well, that's another good reason for them to spend some time on the forums and learning who's who...

Well, I've been asked many times for a 'Like' button, and the system allows for that or the other options, as well.
I was going to do like, so I wanted the community's input on the other options.

Unfortunately, I would say i don't like the rep system. In other forums, it leads to animosity in some cases. Not saying it wouldn't work here, but i agree with T's comment above that people knows us by the comments we leave etc.... plus time on the forum. Plus some people i thought i wouldn't necessarily like or work with i've had the pleasure of working with and changed my crazy mind.
Just my humble opinion.
BTW- in looking at my profile, it says i have 0 warning points... can you bump this to 100 for me Noah
he hee
Cheers,
Maceman

I see this too - but only for myself. For other people there are no warning points displayed.
If maceman gets 100, i want 101 warning points!
Well, I've been asked many times for a 'Like' button, and the system allows for that or the other options, as well.
I only saw requests for a "Thank you" button, because people want to say thank you without creating twenty pages of "ty" comments.

That would only require a simple image change on the button.

I'm still not even sure how all this works. What does "no names" even mean? What good is a reputation if there is no name attached to it? doesn't make sense. Or do you mean you can find the names of the people who like you or don't like you? Ugh that could be a mess. I think we keep it simple. Maybe just a basic "like" system or where you only can give positive reputation. because the would kind of automatically deal with some of the negative because if user X doesn't have any positive reputation, maybe that is just as good as negative?
IDK. I think for now maybe don't take things too extreme with the new features & changes, maybe start with a simplified system with this stuff & maybe let it evolve as time goes on.

Keep it positive.
Likes only and with names so we can ask friends who "liked" something, what they liked about it.
Too many "dislikes" could discourage newbie authors.
How many authors first tables were horrid but later releases (after more was learned) were awesome?
Paul, I would hope by now, you know how I am, and I say keep it positive and upbeat.
Cheers!
