Hope this helps somewhat at least. And what values should they have ? The higher the bettter - sorry. If you reduce one timer, you free up that resource and it can be enough too. There is single simple answer. Only - tweak, test ... repeat.

Very much so, thanks indeed for your pointers @Thalamus. It's all the more motivation to start getting deeper into table construction and scripts and I will start tinkering a bit.

Thanks also @kiwi and @X Vector for your input, I'll try some different versions and configurations in the next few days and report back!

Oh, and I forgot, something we should all know by now. Test with a different DB2s - first !!

From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.

Oh, and I forgot, something we should all know by now. Test with a different DB2s - first !!

B2s is not the culprit, I ran both tables in various configurations and with different parameters and it turns out my system can't cope with the tables regardless of video settings, sync on/off, windowed vs. full screen mode, also no change running in 10.7

Which is a bit surprising since I can run more recent VPW tables than BOP at 100fps smoothly. Also I didn't suspect Surf'n Safari to be so resource intense.. it's maybe to do with the flashers sequences on these tables?

Anyway thanks for your input everybody, always happy to receive new ideas on what to try.

@deadmanwalking : I've seen many of cases where flashers has been mentioned. I haven't really been having issues where I could for certain blame flashers though. When we start to talk about table elements having issues, then graphics parameters, video drivers, primitives etc. all come to play. I'm in the more fortunate situation now. New cab install with almost no hacks and video drivers on the latest and greatest. The same goes from VP, well - on master branch instead of 10.8.1. Why not make the "fiddle with" copy and disable those elements ? Debugging isn't very hard, you always learn something in the process, and that is at least half the fun with VP :)

A little off topic, but I wanted to share an update that I think may help others who are upgrading to 10.8.0.

I recently posted on JP's Diablo table topic thread that I lost DOF effects on slings, pop bumpers, plunger on the Diablo table when I updated from 10.6 to 1.7.4. I thought it was something with his table. It was not.

I saw similar trouble on github and the other site.

Reference:

https://github.com/v...all/issues/1143

https://github.com/v...all/issues/1252

After a ton of troubleshooting, I finally got it to work!

Solution for me was to do a full install of 10.7.2 over my 10.6 install. Then, minimal install of 10.7.3. I already had 10.7.4 minimal installed. Did not reinstall. Then minimal install of 10.8.0x86rc6. Then the necessary files for the other three 10.8.0rc6 builds (x64, x86GL, x64GL). All builds versions are working fine now and DOF events fire as they should. :otvclap:

Note: If anyone tries this, please make a backup of your Visual Pinball folder. The 10.7.2 installer replaced one of my critical files. I don't remember which...maybe the screenres.txt or one of the inis. I had a backup, so no issue for me.

Maybe something was missing in the scripts in those minimal install packages. Not sure. I was getting some script errors on some table launches that now also seem resolved.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, for all the work you put into this software!

Small update to the post above.

I noticed today that the VPinballX folder and its contents are NOW in C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\VPinballX.

It was NOT there when I simply did the minimal upgrade path.

I didn't understand vbousquet's comment on github, when I was troubleshooting. I now do.

Reference:

https://github.com/v...ment-1880180221

Scripts are probably fine.

I have used the VP10.7.4 version very little and I had forgotten that the backglass (b2s) is always active,

if I launch a table that has its own backglass, the backglass also starts even if it is deactivated in the options.

@kiwi : Does the registry key for \hkey_curren_user\software\visual pinball\controller\ForceDisableB2s change when you do that switch under config ? Might be the issue.

Also, depending on table, there is still some old table code that uses a text file inside users folder. LMDOFsomethingsomething.txt

After re-installing my cab completely, I had issues with two backglasses, the other way around though. These tables read the registry, but, VP didn't change its value when changing the config in the gui. MIGHT, be something to be aware of and maybe adjust manually ?!

I will check the windows registry again later, however it is only a question of version 10.7.4 and its betas, the previous versions 10.7.3 or 10.8 work perfectly.

Hi,

so finally 10.8 is out with a final release on github but i am a bit confused about downloading. i dont wanna download the installer, i install vpx manually,  but the x64 and x86 version on github but which one? i can see only developer releases for this, minimal installers and GL versions. Aren´t there any separated downloads for x64 and x86 versions like for the prereleases any more or are the x64 and x86 versions included in the minimal?

the same for the 10.7.4 arent there any x86/x64 versions any more?

There where never any x64 release for 10.7.4 - only 32bit. I compiled one myself, and you can do to if you need. The only reason I can think of is if you have "unnamed table" laying around and you haven't made it work for 64bit and for some very odd reason need to run it on 10.7 series.

"unnamed table" can be fixed by this one https://vpuniverse.c...66e95f1491a1551

https://github.com/v...X80_Minimal.zip contains all you need to upgrade your current setup with 10.8 final.

Just extract them over a standard install of VPinball.

If you run he baller installer - well, then you are not using the standard installer and I have no clue to as if this is enough. I expect it is though.

It should not make much harm either - if you run the main installer.

https://github.com/v...-.VPX8setup.exe

It should ask you if you like to install db2s etc. But, I haven't tried it - I'm still doing my upgrades the hard way :)

And, yes, if you download from github, you need to have an account. But, you can get the same files from the Essentials link in this forum.

Hope this made it any clearer. As always, and especially if you haven't run 10.8 before at all, I would make an extra backup. For those that already have, I would not even bother.

I think you need to delete the links Thalamus and change your wordings.
I asked noah 2 years ago to post the 64 bit workaround for ** and this was his reply :
"Hi Mike!

I don't think it's a good idea to provide support for a pirated virtual table.

Farsight sent a cease and desist, so I'd have to think we shouldn't encourage it more."

Ok, done - but, it is imo. stupid not to point people in the right direction. Getting rid of 32bit should now be everyones goal.

With the latest pinmame fixes, one should be able to run tables like TWD, Mustang etc. with 64bit without the issue of the emulator lagging behind.

That used to be my only reason.

,

Btw. If people have problems with getting 10.8 to work. It might be an good idea to use one of the older installers. I actually did that myself when I re-installed my cab. I went for 10.7 installer, then added my backup of 10.7.4 exe and got the rest that I needed manually..Freezy, db2s etc. Since there now is a 8 minimal available, it should be as easy as just extracting that over the earlier VP install.

Thanks for the explanation. I appreciate it,  so 10.8.0 minimal is the one needed here.... got it and installed it. By the way i also update all of my vpx setup manually and not using any installers.... i dont like installers :)

no need for that i downloaded the 10.7.4 64 bit version 474 already few days ago from github before the 10.7.4 final was released, which is the same build version :)

BTW: The 64 bit patch does not work for me but never mind.

You need to run that registry as administator !

Its a good idea to take care of that file - put it in maybe VPinSpa - in case .. you sometime in the future re-install your machine.

It will be there as a reminder too ;)

I experienced the same when I tested on a 'clean' machine that directb2s and vpinmame where not registered. I needed to run the setup and registration. Not sure about the rest, on cab I had the last 2 years vpx8 in a seperate folder and also changed my right click contact menu to open it in vpx7,vpx8 dx and vpx8 gl.
Maybe it will be added in 10.8.1 :drinks:

Hello,

I started to play a bit with the 10.8 final version to update my cab, and I found the following little bug in the ini file that generates Visual Pinball

; #######################################################
; # Controller preferences
DOFDroptargets = 2
DOFDropTargets = 2

It generates twice the same key, guess that the problem in the source code is just a typo.

Thanks!

if I launch a table that has its own backglass, the backglass also starts even if it is deactivated in the options.

It could be simply a matter of increasing the reference version, for example to 10799, which is inside the controller.vbs file.

I guess it was added because in earlier releases it couldn’t be changed through COM calls, but had to bet through the registry
