I am on newer hardware (Gtx 3070) but dont currently use VR. Should I try out the OpenGL version or stick to the DirectX 9 version? Any advantages to using the OpenGL version for non VR use?

There's a summary earlier in the thread from vbousquet describing the benefits of OGL vs DX9.. https://www.vpforums...=51455&p=519772

Essentially for non-VR users.. better/cheaper antialiasing, improved color management, and a little quicker to startup.  But I suspect there would be other benefits too given how old DX9 is now (released over 20yrs ago).

Thank you for a response.  I will start testing out the GL version and report any issues.

On problem i have with the GL version is that the gamma seems super high
all tables are super bright.

Probably is not the case in VR hardware

Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think GL supports HDR, so if you are used to HDR, colors may seem washed out and bright.  Maybe someone can correct me on this.

my monitor is 10bit color but that should not affect things?

Where 8n the file system is vp installed on android. And where would a table file go? Haven't found the folder yet. Interesting playing vp on my phone. But works remarkably well on the example table. Not really a 10.8 beta question but sort of

That's a good question.  I haven't tried the OpenGL, so I can't say, but it would explain the white-ish colors.  I know if I turn HDR off when I'm playing a game that's what it looks like... washed out and white.  Maybe one of the gurus can jump in to clarify.

Thanks for the info. I saw it on github and figured I have an android phone. I've also got an original nvidia shield so let's see how it goes.
Appreciate you putting it together.
It plays the example table very smooth on an s22 with some very minor graphics glitches. I'll test out the shield later.
Is that video on windows 11 android

jsm174,

wow, great job, love the video and can't believe I haven't tried this out yet.  Will do today for sure, thanks

PS. Does the linux build have the built in web server stuff (seems to work great for making changes/uploading tables?  I want to test out on a handheld running linux like a steamdeck.  Wondering if running vpx through wine vs running directly.

@slydog43, thanks!

standalone is not running wine. It is just using the vbs script engine source code. We've had to work around some bugs with it, so some of the newer tables just work, while older tables probably need at patch.

You can find some patches here:

https://github.com/j...ndalone-scripts

And for info on the work arounds:

https://github.com/v....md#workarounds

As for the web server, it does run on Mac and Linux, but is locked down to your `$HOME/.vpinball` directory, so it might not be useful unless your tables are sitting in there.

On Android and iOS, it is locked down to the applications data directory, so it is far more useful.

If you adjust any ini value, you need to properly quit the app which then saves the INI file. The changes take effect on the next launch.

Not sure if this is a Windows issue or beta... but when opening a table by double-clicking the .vpx file, the VP editor opens but the table is not loaded.  In the past, the table would be loaded and ready to play.  I thought it might be because of the change in the VP executable, but it is calling up the proper build, it just isn't loading the table.  Anyone else notice anything like this, or is it on my end?

Drybonz, That is not a VPX 10.8 bug.  I have had that happen in the past and was a pia to fix.  Something gets screwed up in the registry.  something about not including a %1 run or something like that, can't remember.  I'm sure you can find out more info if you search for your problem, but 10.8 beta can run by double clicking, good luck.

^doesn't sound like this will fix your issue, but clicking the table vpx file works for me on windows 11 with beta 2 10.8.0-1189-a038732 (or however you call it). I had to change the default program to VPinballX64.exe since beta 2 comes with that, pretty sure I could have just renamed the exe and that would have also worked.

I had a bit of time to mess around with the beta over the last week, and wow! Holy friggin' crap dude!!! You guys slammed this out of the park. The way it handles the camera let's me set great custom views without taking allot of time to do so. I've been putting my laptop on it's side (high tech swivel technology lol) setting windows to portrait mode and making custom views with the "camera" set of options. I have the pinmame default set to 5x so it fills the entire first inch and a half of my monitor (and is always centered at the top, never needing to be repositioned) then I tune in a slightly tilted really nice view under it without distorting the dimensions. It's glorious. I've never been able to achieve such a nice single screen view before. You guys rule.

Thanks, Slydog.  Just to be clear... it was opening on double-click in 10.8 beta and recently stopped.  That's not to say it isn't a Windows fix, which I'm going to look into.  I tried switching the default program through windows, but it still recognizes it as the same Visual Pinball 10.8 as it did prior to the "VPinballX64" exe, so I'm not sure how to fix that yet.

*edit*  I'm not 100% sure it's a windows only issue.  I just used a 3rd party program that I have used with success in the past to remove and re-add VPX as the default handler for .vpx files.  Double clicking will open the editor, but the table is still not loaded in the editor as it should be.

Sweet!

I just tested 10.8.0 rev 1241 and the super bright light looks to be fixed.  Batman 66 and the F-14 table I used for playing around with the bug are completely fixed :)

Not sure if you guys read this thread or not, but just wanted to say "To the VPX coding team, and especially Vincent aka vbousquet, thank you for your hard work on VPX!"  :)

v/r,
Smiles

VPX has very specific args for .vpx file handling
The args look nearly just like a front end's launch args

They also exist in like 6 or 8 places in registry

Just try this

Rename your vpx folder to vpx-keep

Now run ANY vpx installer, doesnt much matter which version

install to the path your folder was before you renamed it above.

When installer is done, just delete new folder and rename old folder back

that should fix it unless the issue is elsewhere

I just realized that double clicking a table just opens the VPX editor too.  Well.... It opens a folder to choose a table.  I already chose the table lol.  That's why I double clicked on it :P

I did try this.  It didn't change anything.  I'm wondering if it is because we're just updating the VPX files right now.  We're not actually installing anything new and thus registry values are not being updated.  Just throwing ideas out...

EDIT:  That was an easy fix lol.  I just renamed my x64 exe to VPinballX.exe ( i named the x86 to VPinballX-x86) and then repicked the application to open .vpx files in the table's properties.  It fixed it.
Looking at stuff in the registry, all VPX is still registered to VPinballX.exe.  I 'could' have just updated the registry, which we might have to do eventually, but I don't like messing with it unless I have to lol
