I think all tables should be adjusted for Physmod. The creator mukuste definately said that he wanted the users to be able to play with better physics, it should not only be a developer version for internal testing. Table authors should move on to Physmod because gameplay is much much more realistic - and they have to rebuild the table for VP10 anyway - so why not!?

After playing the tables that have been released with Physmod 5, it's really hard to go back to the non-Physmod tables.  They are still fun, but if there is an option for the same table on Physmod, I'll choose that one everytime.  They play so much more realistically, and like CK said, VP 10 should sort out these issues moving forward.  Can't wait for that!  :)

To adjust the speed of the ball you can use table inclination and table friction. The wiki that mukuste started for physmod explains the new settings guidelines.

regarding physmod 5, i'm impressed that the shots seem a bit more accurate, but most of the mods i've seen the speed feels a bit inaccurate when the ball responds to the downward slant. is there any way to decrease how fast the ball heads toward the drain on a pm version?  it would be nice to have some sort of "layman's guide" to making tweaks to tables (what specific things to tweak for more subjective issues such as the one i just mentioned.)

It's actually pretty accurate. But you can just adjust the table slope in the table properties. Modern DMD games should be 6.5-7.0. But if you want it pitched flatter try 6.0 or 5.5.

Vp10 is right around the corner with the better physics. Id prefer to adjust all my tables once rather then adjust them for this then have to adjust them all again for vp10 when the betas start to roll out.

But my tables are free to mod anyways so somwone will handle it

The new physics are very good, and the added features of vp10 make the whole experience much nicer for author and players

What really is changing in VP10? I haven't heard anything definitive, you seem to know a bit though

The problem is that there's no real release schedule for vp10. It could be a couple weeks. It could be a year. For the growing amount of us that think that vp physics are completely unplayable without physmod, there is no option but to convert tables now.

physmod 5 has nudging recoil for buttons/keys. VP has not had that for years. It also has flippers that make VP9 a joke. VP9 because it could and should have it. VP8 and below was from a different time when it was not a possibility.

Is Physmod 5 really ready for general use?

Is VP9?

Use what you want or wait for a new version. The answer is that the only version to address both methods for controlling pinball (flippers and nudging) with the current state of the art will probably be the only version that could bring the existing tables up to that state. VP9 is broken and wanting and not even used by those that want to play tables in the most realistic way possible, and know about Physmod 5.

The point may be muted by VP10, but not today.
