I have a SSD in my cab and its way faster that my dev PC. Its an 80 or 90gb Intel SSD,I forget at the moment, but it loads windows/Hyperpin in 30 seconds.

Tables load a little faster than my dev box, but the Hyperpin front end is way faster.

Sort of off topic, but in reference to loading times.  Has anyone tried running Hyperpin/VP/FP all from a solid state drive?

I tried copying everything over to my SSD last night, but loading times for both VP and FP tables seemed to be nearly identical to running them off of a standard internal drive.

Just curious if anyone else has noticed loading speed improvements when running off a SSD, or if I might not have had everything setup correctly...

Interesting thanks.  I have a 60gig ocz vector3 and didn't notice much difference in Hyperpin loading, table selection, or table loading times...  Windows definitely loads MUCH faster from SSD, but I guess the small size of the Pinball files don't really benefit too much from the faster ssd, and once they're loaded into RAM then I don't think the HDD is accessed again anyway right?

Thanks for the info!

EDIT: And thanks again guys, changing my Hyperpin,exe to run in native Windows 7 mode seems to have fixed me up!  I'm not sure why I had it set to run in XP compatibility, must have been confusing the suggestions for the VPinball.exe...

I'm sure this has been said 100 times, but how do you change the EXIT key with the new WIP 10?

It used to be ESCAPE would take you to the pop up menu for instruction card/exit and a few other choices and holding down escape for 3 seconds would exit you from the table.

Now its the letter "E" - was that changed for some reason?

funny that's already second user that says e was magically his exit key in vp and he didn't put it there, maybe there's some hidden default in vp, even though koadic says there isn't?

Well, yeah, make that three. I have no idea where it's coming from at the moment, I thought it was related to newer builds.
I guess I'll have to take a closer look.

Edit: Yes, E is set to "Exit Key" in VP preferences. I'm positive I didn't put it there.

Koadic - here is another "bug" report for VP - looks like something defaults to e, i know you tested by deleting that entry from registry but maybe it becomes e in some other circumstances.

The only thing I can think of is that it was altered prior to my changes where I made it so the key actually triggered the exit menu... it would never have been evident before that change because even if the key was set to E, it wouldn't have done anything. The key is and always has been Q by default until changed by the user.

You would change this in the Hyperpin Settings.ini file under the FPLaunch heading. (below from memory...)

ExitKey = e

to

ExitKey = ESC

why is it e - because exit key must not invoke resume menu in vp, must not close b2s backglass and must not close fp, and esc does all of that + some other problems

if it works for you - you can put esc there (new name is exitkey not exitemulatorkey)

maceman - you cant have your exit key close vp or fp cause that's just what we have to avoid

if you want you can put some button somewhere mapped to esc but you will have to use it only in plain vp and fp - not in hyperpin - maybe on bottom of pin

It is? I have both in my settings.ini?  So what does exitkey do then?

I understand that. I was just making the point that i cannot any longer exit my emulators except by using the keyboard.  Yes, I could add a new button, but it would be MAJOR work to do so. I don't think it makes practical sense to alter my cab for the new fplaunch.  In hindsight, i maybe could have put another button in the cab, but we didn't need to back then. Maybe i should map my player 2 cab button to exit emulator since i hardly use that one.

The only issue for me is that now that this is working, i cannot exit using my cab at all for FP and VP from their editors. Neither program gives the ability to change the exit key. FP's esc key is hardcoded, and VP, well VP has the issue i described already, and i always use Koadic's latest builds so it is not build related i feel.

Anyways, I can live with using the keyboard while editing tables, it is just confusing after the muscle memory keeps going for the cab to exit :)

Cheers,

Maceman

Maceman, you have an Ipac2, don't you?

You can always put esc on an shifted key.

Take a look here at the WinIPAC documentation

Picture labeled "Table View": You see on the upper left under "Keycode Assignments" a binding for "SHIFT 1". You can set this to any button on your cab - start key is a good choice. I use the coin button on mine. Don't use your flipper buttons or magnasave buttons here.

Picture labeled "Panel View": You see an option for "Show Shifted Keys" on the left. Here you can program a second keycode or macro to any button on your cab but the one you used for shift.

I use this function for accessing flyers (shift-leftmagnasave)  and instructions (shift-rightmagnasave) on my cab and for buying a Supergame in Judge Dredd (shift-start button).

Having a few weird issues with WIP10 that I didn't have before upgrading. 1. Exiting tables. I hit my exit key on my pin and the pause/exit menu comes up as normal. I use my flippers to go down to exit on the bottom, but when I hit my start button the table doesn't exit. It just resumes playing. To get it to exit I need to hit my exit button, then hit ENTER on my keyboard. That gets me back to the table selection. What's weird is that when I hit exit from table selection to exit hp I scroll down to exit and hit my start button and that works fine. 2. Ledwiz turning off. I'll load hp and play a table. Ledwiz working fine. Quit out and go to another table and the ledwiz may be off now. What am I doing that would turn it off? Never had this issue before WIP10. 3. Can I still do screenshots of the Backglass screen in WIP10? I used to hit U to take a snapshot of the Backglass. In the settings I just see one key now for screen shot. It was very handy for b2s backglasses to take a snapshot of just that screen and use it for HP. Thanks! Bill

Thanx for the explanation. I am still not completely clear. Not your fault... just hard for me to grasp i think.

So, Let me explain this way and maybe you can clarify what i may be missing.  On my set-up i have 10 buttons as follows ( 2 flippers, 2 tilts, 1 and 2 player selects, plunger(enter), exit, and coin 1 and coin 2. All these keys were mapped appropriately in the ipac2 and worked for 2 years. I have never had magnasaves since i never thought i would like them. If i had a tilt bob, then maybe i would have used my current tilts as magna's.

I will have to look further into what you are saying....if this means rewiring anything i may be out because i don't want to tear the cab apart right now. If it is just a matter of remapping, then i am still interested....

I need to get on the cab and open up the ipac program and see what you mean here. I don't remember that table view :)

Cheers,

Maceman

Hi,

I have the Nanotech plunger kit.

When I press "pause button(Button 7)".

It will open the VP exit/debug menu and not the HP menu.

How can I adjust that?

pause button is not really needed since exit button pauses game - but you can use it same as exit key

to do that you would have to use check box in vp key settings - "override pbw defaults" - and set your buttons manually - without using button 7 for anything - exit button must be empty in vp

next put button 7 (Joy7) as your exitkey or exitkey1 in settings.ini in fplaunch section

I use my plunger (launch ball, mapped to 'enter') to select from those menus. If you want to  use start, can't you just change the hyperpin config fplaunch 'EnterKey' mapping to '1'?

For menus to work you have to configure all these keys in settings.ini, they are not configured by deafult:

; menu keys
exitKey          = Esc      ; invoke exit menu, can be joy button also (Joy1)
exitKey1         = Joy1     ; former pauseKey, works same as exit key
enterKey         = Enter    ; key for entering into menus
enterKey1        = Joy4     ; and another one
upKey            = LShift   ; left flipper goes up in menus
upKey1           = Joy5     ; another left flipper key - for joystick
downKey          = RShift   ; right flipper goes down in menus
downKey1         = Joy6     ; another right flipper key - for joystick

for exiting the game you should change exitkey1 to match your button (probably 1 as mtpc says)

print screen keys are still u and o - it didn't change:
printScreenKey   = o        ; save playfield
printBGKey       = u        ; save backglass

table leds are not started from fplaunch - fplaunch stops leds when entering table (ledclear.bat) and activates them on exit (ledset.bat) - so it is actually to turn off your out of table led setup

when you are in table led is started with core.vbs - so you should check what you did there - you probably updated core also, and didn't put something in there to start leds

You don't need new buttons - with shift you can assign additional keys to shift button+some other button combination

i guess shift button keeps it's original function but when you hold shift and press some other button that has shift configured - you get new keys - so with 10 buttons you can have 19 different keys

Thanks blur for the reply. Before going to wip10 I deleted all of the fplaunch settings from settings.ini so that fplaunch would add in all the new ones correctly.

I'll go in and manually add the ones you listed and change the one you noted to 1. Hopefully that's all it needs.

A far as the ledwiz I'm not sure. I don't think it's core.vbs because when I first go into hyperpin and load a table it works fine. Then I exit out to another and Ledwiz is now off. It's weird. i noticed a line in the ini file to toggle the ledwiz off. Is that what could be doing it? Or does that line do something else?

that line only enables ledset and ledclear bat scripts - so check what you have in them - i don't distribute them with fplaunch
