What is the best way to get an old table to display correctly on my desktop? At the moment I first change player Z to about 70-75cm, zoom in-out with field of view and position the table where I want it with vertical offset. However instead of zooming in and out with vertical view I can also use the scale set. Is there, quality wise, any difference between using the table scaling and vertical offset? Or maybe there's an even better way to migrate my tables to the new POV camera view?

If using legacy (10.7) POV style

Leave X Y and Z scales at 1

Zoom in with Z Offset

If using Camera POV
Zoom in with FOV scale

leave X Y and Z scales at %100

those stretch the table itself
Yes it leads to image degredation i am pretty sure, same as it did in legacy

If you feel the need to empty your wallet in my direction, i don't have any way to receive it anyways

Spend it on Hookers and Blow

Hi !

Using VPX8 x64 and really appreciate it, so thanks a lot for your work ! I see the difference, excellent !

I have only one little question : In VPX7 we could launch and play a table directly by double clicking on it in the explorer folders. But when doing it with VPX8 it open the VPX8 launcher, ask you to choose the file and launch it. So is there a way to do it like in VPX7, in a more direct way ?

I'm not interested in a frontend though.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Is there any updates I should do as far as windows?

Before you do a major Windows update, you should probably update your VPX8 beta build.  It would only take about 2 minutes and then you could rule that out as a problem.  If it doesn't help you are only out a very small amount of time and effort.  A lot of things change each build and you are about 100 build numbers behind the most current.

Also... if I use the /exit command (through my frontend) the next time VPX will always open minimized.  If I close VPX manually, through the exit menu, it will still be maximized the next time I open it.  I can't remember if this was the same behavior as in the past.  I agree, It would be nice if it was always maximized.

Where can I find the latest? This link only takes me to August 9. Why is 10.8 more graphics intensive than 10.7? I have stutter in 10.8 that I didn't in have 10.7.

Hi Itchigo,
You need to sign in at github. Then go to Action in vpinball, use Master (not Standalone)

Try the latest build and re-evaluate.  Also, there are changes in the sync process that cause some people stutter until they change settings.  Set frame limit (max framerate) to zero and change sync to frame pacing... start there.

Here is a guide on how to get the latest build:

OK, here's what I'm using: VPinballX-10.8.0-1449-396bcce-Release-win-x86

I'm having focus issues (editor is loading on top of the table).

I have no cursor unless I hit escape. (I can't even use F1 to uncheck use external DMD).

Every time I start a table I get "The color scheme has been changed to windows 7 basic.

Dont need regedit for that

VPX > Preferences > Editor UI options

Uncheck start with file dialog and exit with file dialog

click OK, exit vpx

now double click tables all you want

Hey Itchigo... did the upgrade fix any of your previous issues?  The mouse cursor issue I know has been discussed and I think there was a bug report open for that one.  The other two I don't remember reading about... maybe someone else can jump in to help you.

Never mind. I found an option on the VPX. I didn't see it until now. On how to use older screen size. 1280x1024 for example.

Is there any chance to add a rez box on the Visual Pinball video settings. For example, I want to use 1280x1024 rez to play some of the old tables that uses this.

You can do that

you just need to make a tablename.ini

and then edit this section

; Video options
Display = 0
Fullscreen = 0
WindowPosX =
WindowPosY =
Width = 2560
Height = 1440
Render10Bit = 0
ColorDepth = 32
BGSet = 0
RefreshRate = 75
AdaptiveVSync = 0
MaxPrerenderedFrames = 0
FXAA = 0
Sharpen = 2
ScaleFXDMD = 1
DisableAO = 0
DynamicAO = 1
SSRefl = 1
PFReflection = 5
MaxTexDimension = 0
AAFactor = 1.000000
MSAASamples = 4
DisableDWM = 0
UseNVidiaAPI = 1
ForceBloomOff = 0
ForceAnisotropicFiltering = 1
CompressTextures = 0
SoftwareVertexProcessing = 0

the ini would go in tables folder of course

Anyone seeing crashes on some tables when exiting POV menu in 10.8?  I have noticed that after making my POV changes and trying to return to main VPX Editor menu, the application will sometimes crash and close.  If I re-open it will act normally on the first or second attempt without crashing.  The latest that was doing this is Wiesshund's Haunted Hotel table. Thanks!

make sure to report it in github and attach the crash text and crash dump (zip the dump first and it will become very small)

on 10.7 it was "Don't touch the Z scale, Ever!",

and is it now different on 10.8 and it won't break the gameplay to change Z Scale as it is in the window pov editor exposed ?

I'm asking the same thing. Yesterday I adjusted my table to better fit my screen. Running VPX 10.8 64bit.

I used settings like this:

Viewport X Stretch  90+% to fit the screen width (yes its makes wrong aspect ratio, I try to find acceptable values)

Viewport Y Stretch  70-80% mostly to fit the screen heigth

Viewport Z Stretch  60-70% to reduce the optical distortion in the back of the table

I thought, changing "Viewport Z Strech" would be safe with window mode.

While it helps to avoid optical distortion in the back of the table, I was unable to play properly.

The ball fells like falling down rapidly, like it has much more wheight.

So: Do any Window-POV-Settings change table physics?

Yes, same here, seems quite random.

Hello,

I'm trying to move to GL (build 1450), the few tests I've done were successful, some tables where I have a little ball stutter in DX seem perfectly smooth in GL. Plus I want to try VR, too. However I have a strange issue, the table loading takes ages. It seems to hang at the "loading textures" phase, stays there for several minutes, then finally the table starts and from there it's normal. I've tried a few tables, all same issue.

Thanks.

anyone else have tables that don't render certain parts in the beta?

using Firepower II (1.1 through Bigus 1.4) the apron refuses to render, even though it is checked visible.

If I change it in live editor, I can get it to render by turning it off and on, but then it still won't show up when I go to play the table.

Edit: This apparently only applies to Cabinet view.
