In case anyone missed it, I released a new version a few days ago - see my previous post on the previous page

 

I am also going to release a version dedicated to the movie Slap Shot, with sound clips from the movie, including the Hanson brothers! The team names and logos will all be from the movie as well.

 

I may have a game update late tonight.

 

I have an updated Wheel Art for you all to download. Works great in PinballX. I added the word "Pinball" to it.

 

 

Gonna play a test game or two then see about uploading it.

Please please make a VPX of this table. Its unique - but as a cab owner it isn't optimal as is. I fear it will just be forgotten as my other VP9' are.

New Hockey Pinball Beta Download!

I'm not using version numbers, sorry. All links in all posts go to the same ZIP file download, and that file is always the most current version. If you are not sure if you have the most recent one, download it again.

 

- Highscore works until game is reset

- Added sound effects for the SlapShot model, a weird cranking sound as it rotates up into view.

- Added one sound clip from the Slap Shot movie - can you find it?

- Can now nudge table during Penalty Kill

- Trophies lower back into the table slowly

- Altered KingPins logo

- I will upload the Instruction Card when it is ready

 

I fixed a bunch of other stuff but I didn't keep track of what it was. The lights are more consistent and go on and off when they should. 

 

Actually one thing I do not like at all about this table is the way the playfield lights look, and pretty much all of them. I guess I will need to add them to the Table texture and do them correctly. Especially the lights in the player benches - bleh.

 

I welcome any comments on the game play:

- are the benches too hard to hit?

- do you bother to try and hit them at all?

- do the rules make sense?

- any ideas, wants, likes, hates, major psychotic piss-offs?

@Thalamus - I really want to do a VPX version. It may take some time though and if anyone wants to help I'm open to that. I keep going back and forth on whether or not I will actually complete a VPX version though. I PROBABLY will.

 

If anyone wants to help me please let me know. I'm not even sure what kind of help I would need. I will get ahold of the people suggested to me earlier in the thread when I'm ready.

 

ETA2:

I loaded an older version of Hockey Pinball into VPX and it doesn't look too difficult to get going. Just update the lighting, some code, and a bunch of other junk Of course it is never that simple, is it?  Can't wait for that nightmare to begin!

I just played your latest beta. The table is fun and I really like the sound effects, especially when the puck hits the goal post. I too am playing on a cabinet, so this table would definitely get played a bunch if there were a VPX version and backglass with scoring on there or the DMD screen.

 

It sounds like a lot of work to convert to VPX, but like Thalamus, I hope you do at some point.  Great job.

I'll probably do the VPX version   In fact this one is almost complete so I'm studying up a bit and preparing for it. Once this VP9 version is done enough I will concentrate on VPX. I don't think it will take long.

 

I like the goal post sound effect too, it somehow makes it feel like hockey. "PING!!!" I think I recorded those myself but I can't remember right now.

 

The game play can get a little slow sometimes when you're trying to get the puck up to the top half of the ice, but not sure what can be done. I probably just play it too much. I'm pretty much cool with the game play. I win and lose pretty evenly so I know it isn't too easy.

 

I only have a few sound effects to add and a few bugs to fix. Then VPX version. I'd like this game to be played by people so if it means making it VPX then I will do it definitely. I've put too much time into it now And VPX will look SOOO much cooler!!

Glad to hear you plan to make a vpx version! If you still want suggestions for the vpx version, can there be a db2s backglass or image for the second monitor and can the score/penalties be placed on the DMD monitor (third screen)?

 

Also you mention the speed of the current game. Is there a way to speed it up or is it possible to add a nudge feature to get the puck moving quicker? A nudge feature could help try to get the puck to certain flippers and even get it into the benches.

I'd like to to do the backglass and all of that. I don't know how but I learn fast with this stuff. If not maybe someone could help, or add it later. If I can convert my current background into the backglass that would be great. I could make it look nicer too.

 

DMD - I see there are DMD tools out there. I would want to make a DMD to replace the fake one I have now. I looked at these tools for a few minutes a few days ago. Just looking around...

 

There is a nudge feature as with any pinball game. The game penalizes you for using them, though you cannot "tilt" the machine.

 

I began replacing the playfield lights with custom ones and they look great! Huge improvement. Happy with that!

I realize you likely didn't mean to leave the file up for so long.  

 

I'm just getting into VP, FP and others and saw this as being possibly the best of the Hockey tables.

It needs converted to VPX anyways and the author appears to have vanished in 2018

Cant find him VPU nor vpinball archives, pinball nirvana etc.
