Can I upload this table to the site as a WIP? I don't know if I will finish it now, at least not right away. Considering offering it up and let someone else finish it if they want.

Hey!

I just started working on it again thanks to someone here messaging me about it. I'm almost done.

I'm utilizing the player benches and penalty boxes. They're all "triggered up" and ready, I just need to figure out how I want everything to interconnect - like when can you go for a Power Play, etc.

The Home player bench is available for Line Changes (in hockey that's when you substitute several players at a time). If the door is open you can shoot the puck into the bench area. One point towards a Power Play will be added to the Penalty Meter, then the ball shoots back out.

For the visiting bench I'm thinking you shoot the puck in there which "antagonizes" the players on the other team. This also gives you one point on the Penalty Meter. Theory is that you're trying to draw the other team into committing a penalty. ;) To leave this area the puck jumps over the wall back onto the ice, like a hockey player.

So if you fill up the penalty meter you can shoot the puck into the penalty box for the visiting team Power Play. Or something like that.

If you shoot the puck into YOUR penalty box then it is a point against your team on the Penalty Meter.

This probably makes no sense. I may simplify it. The game is about scoring goals and winning, but "regular pinball" points are awarded for different things, so there is also a high score to shoot for.

I may make one quarter for a 5 goal game and 2 quarters for a 10 goal game, if that's possible. Or use player buttons.

I think this shows out of the box thinking and I love that! Can't wait for the release. If it's desktop only thats ok but hope you are also eventually able to get it working for pincab' too. I don't think it's a problem if the DMD is located at the bottom, looks ok to me!

Fantastic vid, can't wait!
To answer your previous question, i dont think there is anything preventing you from uploading the table here or at other vp related sites as an "original". You could also upload to one of the cloud services like onedrive if you want people to test it before release

FYI I'm so impressed with your vid, i bought your iOS game. Loved Super Dave Osborn and the old bizarre show, so was a nice surprise to see the vid. Now go out and buy yourself a 1/3 of a cup of java with your earnings from my purchase ;)

That's so awesome thanks! And thank you both for the compliments. I worked on it all day yesterday. Coming along nicely. I think I'm gonna buy half a beer tonight though instead of the 1/3 cup of cofee. What a long week!

The bench and penalty box areas are a bit difficult to hit because of the flat wall. I should post an updated pic, I thought I had one already. If not, yes there are player benches and penalty boxes now with doors that open and close and you can hit the puck into them for different reasons.

I can upload the table to my own website I guess once it's playable enough. I'll write up some instructions.

I just took this screenshot (click for full size). It shows the added player benches, and that some parts of the playfield aren't properly centered ;)

hockey_pinball1.jpg

The player benches are on the left, the penalty boxes on the right. The Home/player team bench is closest to the bottom of the screen, as is the home penalty box.

Shooting into these areas isn't very easy. You often need to ricochet off another object to get the puck in there. I don't want any helper objects like bumpers to get in the way, but I have a few ideas to make it easier. The doors to these areas open and close. I added a few ramps/rails to keep the game looking "real".

I removed arrow lights that were pointing at the doorways. I don't wanna clutter up the ice/playfield. I am using alternate methods of indicating what needs to be done in the game. For instance, the inside of the penalty boxes flash when the doors are open, but there is no light or arrow on the play surface pointing the way.

The "Change Lines" light needs to go, it's been moved around and it works, but I don't want things like that. If your player bench door opens then you can change lines. I don't think I want signs everywhere.

The arrows at the top corners of the ice need to be replaced.

The High Score function doesn't actually work. Is there a way to save a highscore in VP9?

Oh, I added a "Delay Of Game" penalty if you hold the puck still too long with your flippers. The reason is that it would be too easy for players to wait out a Penalty Kill by just holding the puck still for the thirty seconds. So now, if you hold the puck more than 5 seconds you get TWO, not just one, points added to your Penalty Meter....Muahahahahaaaa!!!!!

Thank you all for the kind words, it makes me want to finish this even more!

Before this table I started one based on my video game, Daredevil Dave: Motorcycle Stuntman. It had ramps which let you jump a bunch of buses with the pinball. It had a hospital and a few other things. I stopped that design when I came up with the hockey idea.

Test version of Hockey Pinball available!!!

www.mdigitalmedia.com/pinball/hockey3share.zip

I designed it in version 992, if that matters. This is an unfinished beta version but should run smoothly.

I don't know if the rules will show in the game for you so here they are. They are a rush job, sorry:

Object of the game is to shoot the puck into the top goal and not lose it down the drain, which is your goal.

The Visiting team (computer opponent) consists of drop targets that look like hockey players. Their locations change depending on how the game is going.

"Slap Shot!".
When activated (lower right) can blast a hard shot either at your goal, or ricochet it off a defender for a "one-timer". You never know which one it will attempt, but be quick - the shot is hard!

Nudging
Nudging is part of the game and is encouraged, however
each "nudge" adds to your Penalty Meter, so use them wisely!

Penalty Meter
If your Penalty Meter gets full white, you are rewarded with a 30 sec Power Play. If your meter gets full red you get a 30 sec Penalty.

Power Plays
To earn a Power Play you must fill the left side of the Penalty Meter. You can add points to the meter in several ways - do a Line Change, shoot the puck into the visitor penalty box, or shoot the puck all the way around the top boards behind the visitor net.

Once the meter is full you will be given a Power Play. This means less defensemen will be on the ice and you will have a much easier time taking shots at the goal, as well as defending your own.

Penalty
To receive a penalty you must fill the right side of the Penalty Meter. You can add points to the meter in several ways - every time you nudge the table, or shooting the puck into your own penalty box.

You will get 2 penalty points if you get called for Delay Of Game. Holding the puck too long with the paddles will
earn you this penalty.

If you make it through the 30 secong penalty withour being scored on, you have "Killed" the penalty.

To score
You must first knock down at least one goalie drop-target so that the puck can get through to the net. If you knock down all 3 targets, the net will remain without a goalie for 10 seconds before they all pop back up.

Aside from the hockey score you will also get a "normal" pinball score. Winning the game is only half the challenge! Gain points for hitting defensemen, getting goals, and everything else.

Pretty much all questions, suggestions and comments are welcome!!! :) This is NOT the finished version so stay tuned!

Edit to add:

Sometimes the game play gets pretty fast. It's very cool when you make a few quick passes and blast a one-timer at the goal! It can also get frustrating and slow when there are a lot of defensemen in front of your goal.

I think I should name the teams. I'm going to have an announcer do certain calls and I want him to say the name of the teams.

"The Puckers SCOOOORE!!!!" haha. Flips and the Puckers? Nah.

I made an air hockey video game ages ago and had teams like the Snipers, and crap I can't remember the rest! Some silly ones. In that game you could select the teams and the ice logos and stuff would change.

Anyways, any thoughts on names? I only need two. Bally's Vs Williams?  :P Wizards vs ....Tilts? :( Eltons? Uggg my gawd I'm bad tonight.

The game is a combination of pinball and hockey, so maybe one name related to each.... Blades vs Wizards (like pinball wizard, duh)?

I have tried the table and love it!!

I knew I was in for a good game when the opponent was up 3 to 0!! lol

Its not an easy shoot and score the goalie game. Which makes it a great table in my opinion!!

You did a great job!!

Can't wait for the completed table!!!

Any names you come up with for the teams will be great!!

Carry on.

Ya I think I posted another time after the post with the link so I thought maybe people missed it.

I've tweaked it a lot since then.

- If you don't pull the plunger after a goal the ref will drop the puck automatically after maybe 5 seconds. I did this so people couldn't wait out a penalty after a short handed goal.

Explanation for non-hockey fans, I don't want the player to be able to avoid the 30 second penalty by not putting the puck into play. If you happen to score a goal while serving a penalty you could wait it out by not pulling the plunger until the penalty is over.

I thought about making this auto-faceoff only happen during penalty kills, but I thought it might confuse people if the puck shoots by itself only sometimes.

Thanks for the comments! If anyone finds bugs or has ideas I'm listening...

I tried this today and it's a fun table. I know it's a VP9 table, so there is not a way to use the camera to adjust view settings like in VPX. However, is there a way to change the view through Options? I could not access the options or script.

Once the table is completed, it would really cool if Arngrim or someone was able to implement DOF calls for this table.

Thanks and keep up the great work!

Well I lost everything I typed so I'll try again (was my fault). I will release the next version unprotected so you can adjust whatever you want.

If anyone wants to help do a real DMD for a pin-cab, or whatever a DOF is ;) or get the table to save high score I'm cool with that!

And I'm still open for suggestions and all that.

Oh I also have wheel art for the pinball player, and a short audio track that can play when the game is highlited in the menu. I'll upload that sometime. Does anybody use those?

I have a new idea to have a possible 3 game championship. If you win one game you play another team, then one more team to win the championship. The opposing team logo can change and if I have an announcer with team-specific phrases, I can do those too for each team. I just thought of it while playing a game and drinking a Sierra. I was making a list of voices I want.

Other notes (I may have mentioned on page one, can't recall):

The visiting team has "strategies" that change depending mainly on the score. If they are losing they will have the "Slap Shot" available and more players in front of your net. Same when on a penalty kill.

If you are losing they will play more conservatively.

The fans react the same way. They will get really quiet if you get scored on, especially if you fall behind on that goal. The organist will eventually try to rouse up the crowd, get a few chats going. They won't be happy though unless you score again ;)

If you lose you get to hear the "nah nah nah naaah, nah nah nah naaah, hey hey hey, gooood-byyyye!" chant, which pisses me off and I want to slap the crowd sometimes :-D

I'm pretty sold on the home team being called the Blades - kind of as a nod to the Blades Of Steel video game.

I wanted pinball or hockey related names. Wizards I suppose, from Pinball Wizard. not the best but since I need 3 more it'll work. It's cool. Maybe a funny one or two instead. The Pin*bots! :( Oh, the Kingpins! I saw there is a pinball machine with that name. One more to go, maybe a hockey one ;) I thought about the Chiefs from the Slap Shot movie, but I don't wanna be too un-PC (or too PC either) :-p Damn that movie deserves a nod too. The Hansons?

Hi, I tried the table on my cab. I could not reach the options to rotate the screen, so I played a bit sideways :)
I think your table has really a lot of potential, it is fun to play and it seem that a hockey game fits very well to VP.

I played a lot Icehockey on SNES back in the day, and it never got boring. So I am looking forward to the next version of your table.
I also like the Idea for the 3 or more game championship.

I can give more feedback after being able to rotate the screen on my cab.

Last but not least, thanks for sharing the wip.

Oh the names, I like Pin*bots :-)
Spontaneous suggestions? mh....maybe...... The Iceballs, Frozen Bumbers, Flippers, PinPucks, Rails of Steel, or: The Multiballers   :)

New version (beta) of Hockey Pinball available!!!

www.mdigitalmedia.com/pinball/hockey3share.zip

Sorry no version numbers. I will add them from now on.

This version is unprotected so you can adjust the view or do whatever you want.

- added a few sound effects, nothing major.

- the penalty boxes and doors operate the way I want, I think.

- puck will be put into play (faceoff) 7 or 8 seconds after a goal if you don't hit the plunger. I will probably make this only for penalty kills later.

- all doors are closed during power plays and penalty kills.

- BUG fix: if you are in your own penalty box you will no longer be locked in if a power play starts. This was a cool bug created by the "all doors closed during PP/PK" mentioned above ;)

I still need to add indicators for the doors. I also want an announcer. He will give audio clues as to what tasks you can complete, as well as some play by play.

Just saw this after I posted:

New version available in previous post.

Okay so I've made progress (none of this is in any available version yet). I have not only decided to make a 3 game series, I'm almost done with it :)

I have 4 teams, with logos!:

- Blades (your team)

- Wizards

- Ice Demons (I dunno I just went with it. I started with Ice Cats and Ice Rats))

- KingPins

If you win the first game you get a message saying you've won the quarter-finals and the next round starts. Logos are on the big scoreboard and change accordingly.

I want to make a light show or something when you win a round. I'd like each team to have it's own goal-scored sound (sirens, foghorns) plus some announcer stuff "The Wizards SCORE!!!"

I fixed it so you control when to do a face-off EXCEPT when you are on a penalty. This is so you can't wait out the 30 second penalty. All other face-offs are user controlled.

Once the 3-round championship thing is complete I will do the rink-announcer audio then it will be done.

I may make each team more difficult than the last, maybe not. Not sure how effective it would be. Hmmmmmm

Oh I changed the default table angle (Field Of View in editor) to 50.

I had to make the team logos angled on the scoreboard because these are actually 3D elements that I just raised very high above the ice. Hard to explain, but trying to get them to face the camera without stretching was too difficult, so I gave them a deliberate 3D angle.

hockey_pinball2.jpg

Here are the current logos. They have odd background colors for transparency purposes. I used some modified clip-art and original stuff too. Nothing special
