I just checked both versions of Krull backglass available here on this site, and if you import them into backglass designer, and move those lights off of the B E A S T letters, you will see it just looks like those first to are lit a bit, but in fact, they will get much brighter when lit.

Check this pic where I just moved the lights below.

Are your B and E in BEAST that bright!!

Because they don't look lit up to me on either that I tried.

capture25_t.png

Here you can see where there are settings to activate replay for BEAST when hitting F6 while table is running, and bringing up dipswitch menu.

newbitmapimage_t.bmp

And here you can see the B and E are not lit up. (This is my personal night mod version of Krull that I made along with Green LED backglass, but I also tested the other backglasses here on this site, and those BEAST letters are not lit on table start on any of them.

newbitmapimage(2)_t.bmp

I tied the BEAST lights to TILT rom id, just to show you what they look like when they are lit.(Didn't want to try and play until BEAST letters lit!! Might take forever!! Easier just to TILT table!!)

newbitmapimage(3)_t.bmp

i am unclear with all the rules on this table but...

I think it has something to do with lower playfield, as you can clearly see the same word in lower playfield.

playfield2_wip3_t.png

Hope this helps you.

xenonph -

In Backglass Designer the letters look bright, same as your bright letters. But when playing the game the "B" and the "E" are always lit or bright. I'll try to get a screen print to show you.

Here's what my Krull backglass looks like. The B and E letters always look lit up, and the other letters are always dark. I load the table & it looks this way from the start & so far has never changed. If the letters light up as you play then something is not working correctly on my table.

I deleted the cfg & nvram files & the letters B and E went dark. But I'm stilling trying to find some instructions & came across this link.

https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/rec.games.pinball/gBMmwl7aRyg

One of the messages dated 11/24/2009 has some information, including the following:

The lower playfield is where the game's "Transfer" feature transfers you to.  It's difficult to view in real life, but it looks very, very good: it's seen through a reducing lens.  The ball appears to vanish onto a huge playfield that angles about 45 degrees down away from the player (it's an optical illusion, the playfield in real life is at the same slope as the main level, and slightly smaller).  It's dark down there, and there's only a faint glow of lights.  It's like you're
shooting the ball into a dark underworld/cave, and there's these *BIG EYES* that light up at you.  It's the Beast.  Poke it in the eyes and you get a letter in BEAST.  Spell the entire word for a Special. That's the entire game!  Just keep spelling BEAST over and over again, getting Specials.

I played several games, did get to the lower playfield & hit a bunch of targets. Apparently I didn't hit the correct ones because no BEAST letters lit up.

How can you manually activate a target in order to see if it's working correctly?

I played a couple of games and I lit two letters, first the eyes of the beast light up, then I hit the target with the light on (I think) and a letter from the beast lit up.
After deleting the nvram did you reactivate the replay for the beast?

The lit letters remain lit even for the following games.

There are also triggers and kickers involved in the beast replay, I shot a few shots in line with the 4 shurikens and I easily turned on the lights of the beast.

Although those objects look like "shurikens" used by ninjas, they are actually the weapon that was used to help try and kill the beast.

It is called the "Glaive" , and has blades that pop out of each edge of the star shaped weapon.

Love this movie!!! It is one of my favorites!!

I think they should remake this film using todays special effect technology.

Or at least make a part 2.

Would be so great to see this table in VPX. (I hope one day MFuegemann converts his Krull VP9 to VPX!!)

Thanks for the info Kiwi, on how to light up BEAST letters!!

It is appreciated!!

Carry on.

How or why do you reactivate the replay? The F1 key brought up options but I did not see anything about replay.

If the letters remain lit following games I've probably never seen them before because I was previously playing in DT mode. The other day I connected my 2 monitor system & saw them when the backglass displayed. I just thought it unusual that game started that way, but apparently that's how it works.

I've never seen the movie. My son told me about it & the rarity of a few Krull pinball machines. We were both surprised when it was available in VP9. Hopefully a VPX version will be coming. I'll have to check if Netflix has the movie.

Hit F6 not F1.

I tried that earlier but nothing happened. IOW no menu opened up. Perhaps I hit the wrong key. But it worked now.

Does deleting the nvram usually delete replay or other settings, either in VP9 or VPX?

Thanks again

I do believe it does delete settings and high scores.

Just like as if you turned on a new machine.

I play mostly DT, but sometimes connect my PC to the mini-cab I’m working on in order to try some tables in FS. That’s when I noticed the letters B and E lit up.

Right now I played some Krull DT. I got the eyes lit up on the lower level & got the ball to go down the path of 4 weapons & hit the red eyes. Did this a couple times. Since this was in DT mode there is no backglass showing any BEAST letters lit up. But I would think that information would still be stored in nvram or somewhere.

Now I play the FS version on my single monitor setup which of course displays the playfield sideways. And the backglass shows either on or under the playfield image, and can be toggled back & forth either way. However the backglass does not show any letters lit up. Since there is only 1 ROM and 1 nvram for both DT & FS, shouldn’t the letters be lit from what was triggered while playing in DT?

Let me get this straight...

First you had beast lights on and wanted them off....

now you have beast lights off and want them back on? lol

Had to say that. lol

You would think it should have saved those lights in nvram whether DT or FS view, if that is how the beast lights work, where they are transfered over to next game.

I just want them to come on when they're supposed to. If they stay on for the following games they should have been on when I switched over to FS mode, even though it was only on a single monitor. Or I never really triggered them on even though I thought so.

I'll have to move the PC over to the mini-cab again and try Krull with 2 monitors & see what happens.

I just tried setting to 2 replays on the BEAST setting in Dipswitch menu, and it won't stay on it. I hit F6 and it is always back to 1.

When you deleted the nvram, those 2 lit BEAST lights should not have stayed lit on start up.

Check here to see how to keep the backglass on top of the DT playfield (as seen in pic)..

This is how I test backglasses, and how as a DT user, get to enjoy dB2S backglasses just like the cabinet users.

This and Hanzoverfists FSS mods are perfect way for DT users to enjoy these backglasses.

I tried setting to 2 replays & it won't stay either & also goes back to 1.

When I deleted the nvram the 2 BEAST lights did not stay on the next time the table started, and they're still off.

I decided to play DT with the backglass as you mentioned because it was a lot easier than moving the PC around. However I did not use the B2S Backglass Server program. The backglass is there, I just have to toggle between it and the playfield in order to see it. No big deal since I'll only look at it if/when I think I scored & lit up the BEAST letters. I've played well over 50 games & so far no luck. Yesterday the ball did hit the lit up eyes on the lower playfield but nothing happened. The ball just rolled back. Maybe it didn't go in far enough but sure looked like it did. I'm going to take a break from Krull for awhile & try it again later. Or wait till my son comes over & let him try. I'll let you if we have any luck.

I couldn't help myself, I had to try getting some letters lit up. After only a few games I got to the lower level & got 3 letters lit up. I was feeling lucking so continued playing several more games & finally got the 4th letter lit. Thought I'd better grab a screenshot because who knows when I'll ever get the 5th letter lit. After playing a whole bunch more games I finally got the last letter lit. I was wondering how long they would all stay lit. Well they don't. After the last letter lights up they all turn off right away. Bummer. Make me glad I got that screenshot of 4 letters lit.

The ball has to go all the way through the lit eyes in order to light up a letter. Going in & rolling back down does not trigger anything. I could swear one ball went through but did not light up letter. As if there was enough room for the ball to just side step & miss going over a rollover switch.

Here's my screen captures. The second image is the lower level & shows 4 small BEAST letters lit up by the eyes. The small letters look like red dots on the DT monitor. I tried enlarging them & you can sort of make out a couple of them.
