@parabolic - you are running the drivers from dmd-ext 2.5.1 - right ? Stutter is a known problem, not running the latest. Maybe you've installed an older version into syswow or some other path that windows sees and you believe that you are running the latest ? Search your computer for dmddevice.dll, you should only find some in those vpinmame subfolders, but, those are not active and can be ignored.

@Umpa - what are you using your FutureDMD for exactly ?

From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.

Hmmm not sure about stuttering. What's your pc specs?

Sorry for the late reply.
Im running an AMD 8350 8 gigs of ddr3 and a Radeon gtx 960 4gb playfield and backglass
Should be enough
Yeah those specs should be good. Have you tried lowering your graphic card settings? Maybe update the drivers? Don't know about the AMD chip. I would think that would have nothing to do with it but not sure since it works fine with internal vpinmame dmd.

It is used for in pbx as I scroll through tables it shows things like high score, last played, how many times played, etc. It launches when I start the can up and when browsing with pbx. Before I got freezys dmd it uses after selecting a table in pbx it would release focus to allow vpinmame dmd to run on top of it so to speak. Then when I exit the table to go back to pbx it would take focus again and display the info as I mentioned above. I guess I can always goto videos of dmd when browsing in pbx but futuredmd was nice with that extra information displaying.

I see. Well, I obviously can't talk for Freezy, but, I don't see why he shouldn't be able to support something like this in the future. It already supports displaying custom text so ...

Guess we'll just have to be patient and accept that this is open source software :)

Is there a way to default using external dmd or do I need to remember to go into options and tick it whenever I download a new table?

Yes, it should work to make changes to the default table in the registry. If you ...

win + r <enter>

regedit <enter>

- up comes something that looks like explorer ... scroll to the top ... expand this path

\\hkcu\software\freeware\visual pinmame\default and change or make a reg_dword with the value of 1 it should work.

If you need to make it - highlight the left pane named default, right click it - choose new and choose new 32bit value - then just enter 1 in the dialog box that pops up.

... mind you I haven't tried this method, but, from what I know of VP, I would expect it to work. Another way, and maybe easier - is to start 'setup.exe', set it and press 'set default'. Again, not verified ... but, will be surprised if it doesn't work.

You can also go into Vpinmame folder, run setup.exe, click on Setup Defaults, and enable the default there for all future tables

Existing tables that you have will have already run will need to be manually updated with F1 or registry edits

Anyone successfully color patch the Family Guy rom? I believe it was suggested to use v12 English, French (fg1200af).  I was able to patch and I can get color however no sounds.  I've verified my audio drivers were correctly selected in VPX and my mixer has the sounds up for VPM.  I've jacked up the volume to 61 through the rom and I have the music volume set in the service menu.  When I try other color patched Stern rom tables they work fine.  If I change the table to use the v4 English I get all sounds/music but of course it's not color.

Maybe I'm super stupid, but I cannot get DMD frame dump to work. I created a DmdDump directory where my VPinMAME.dll file is located but no output.

Seems you need to press F6 in VPinMAME 2.9 to toggle dumping but thats kinda impossible when VPX is running right? Guess thats when you run VPinMAME stand alone?

What VPinMAME version are you guys using for dumping frames? I suppose I could patch the source myself to always dump, but I get compilation errors on my Win 10 / VS2015 machine. Probably some SDK version issue.

Yes, no problems like that.  Sounds like you may have accidentally disabled sound.   I'd go into the registry (as described above) and nuke the fg1200af key.

I also had trouble with Family Guy. I don't remember exactly but I don't think it was sound. It just crashed/gave error messages. I had to revert to regular rom then also remove the registry key (just reverting the rom was not enough, for some reason).

hi all, id love to try this on my cab.
i am running XP, and a monitor for DMD

i am running into stupid problems... i think i might be too dumb or something.

first, on the first page of this post, i get an image from photobucket that says i need to update my account to use third party software. i this BS, or legit, and how would i do that?

i downloaded version 1.6.0

Where do i get the already colorized SAM roms that were mentioned, so i can give this all a test run???

Setup

Firstly you'll need to download the DLL (which by the way is called DmdDevice.dll).  DONE

The best is to copy it to your C:\Windows\SysWOW64 folder, along with DmdDevice.ini. I dont have a syswow64 folder in my windows folder, so i added these 2 files to my vpinmame folder. is this OK, or do i need to create a syswow64 folder in  windows folder?

Remove or rename whatever dmddevice.dll you have in your VPinMAME folder. i put mine here on purpose since i dont have the syswow folder.

The next steps will get a lot easier with *cough* VPDB *cough*, but for now, you need to do the following:

1. Download the patch file and patch the ROM where?
2. Create folder in VPM's altcolor folder DONE
3. Copy the palette files there ?????
4. Enable "Use external DMD (dll)" in VPM DIDNT GET THIS FAR
5. Use patched ROM in VPX and play the game! VPM DIDNT GET THIS FAR

thanks.sparky

From freezy' github page :

Compatibility

This application is based on .NET 4.5, which only runs on Windows 7 or later. Probably on Vista too, but who cares. If you're still running WinXP then you have my sincerest sympathy, but that's as far as I go. ;)

I swear to win7. Others win10. Seems like it doesn't really matter. Win10 updates keep breaking stuff, but, in ways that are easy to fix.

By 2020 you should consider upgrading to Win10 - Win7 will then be kind of like WinXP is today. An old relic. If you're going to use the computer for only

pinball, then maybe you don't need to update for several years after 2020. It kind of depends on the guys making VP/VPinmame/Dmdext and other cool stuff.

In your case, its a dead end I'm afraid.

Sorry about that, dmdext is based on .NET, and specially the Rx Extensions which are heavily used aren't available for XP. If your box is plugged on the network, using XP is grossly negligent anyway. Otherwise, compared to ten years ago the dev stack definitely moved away from XP as well, so you might encounter more and more issues upgrading components. With Win7 you should be okay for a while again though.

Thanks again Freezy for your great work,
There are a few new coloured Roms come out that work on the real external DMD but not on the virtual LCD one, I tried and failed, apparently there is a new colourisation method being used, has anyone found a work around yet to make these work on LCD screens?

I have yet to see a good color dmd on a virtual DMD screen.  Now that I have converted my PinDMD3 to a real screen, I want to play around with this.  Any suggestions on a rom/table to get.  Can I use the Pin2DMD editor at all.  All I have been able to get working is 4 color with pallete file.  This look kinda poor compared to a real ColorDMD game in some of my real pins.  I have seen some cool sample vids, but I have yet to get anything working.  Suggestions welcome, thanks
