Thing

Version: 1
Category: VP 8.x Recreations

Author(s): Patrick & tiltjlp

Description:
A 1951 Chicago Coin flippered game with both bumpers and good use of early-style slingshots.
Thing showcases Chicago Coin's ability to create fun and interesting games, especially at the height of their popularity. Thing has 7 bumpers, 2 kickout holes, 2 side rollovers, a ?? Mystery Award, and a disappearing ball diverter between the flippers. See if you can figure the mystery of when the diverter appears and vanishes.

Patrick figured the rules from the table graphics, and tiltjlp added the diverter, the Table Information, and testing and tweaking. While the rules may not be 100% accurate, they seem to fit the game, and should be fairly close to what was intended.

Is this the start of all those tables you mentioned in a previous post? drool.gif drool.gif As a beginner builder (1 1/2 yrs. in, 11 tables I think) all I make are originals and can't wait to see what kind of um.. 'warpitivity' your mind has thought up! having survived Tii's onslaught of some rather odd tables in that monster d/load table pack of his, I salivate with eagerness over the ones that you will bring out for us! Although not a fan of the EM's, I noticed, that most of mine, have the Em look to them, as I favor a wood field with pics on it rather than the entire thing covered with colors/pics/lettering. My sounds of course are all mine, so I hope that this table uses the old bells that they used back then, i used to work on these oldies after leaving my job in the late 80's (I had my own private business, cleaning, fixing the older privately owned em's in north NJ; USA)
Anyhow (sheesh, I know), your pin here looks like one of the ones I fixed way back when. the colors are different. but that one was fried and it never did work so I never got the chance to actually play it. the playfield looks similar but I fixed so many back then that they all kind of blend together now, 20 years later!
But, I'll give it a whirl, as this site is beginning to swing me around to the older pins, as well as my faves (SS's)
looks challenging which is a thing I like. although rather empty, most of my originals require a few skill aim shots on each table to achieve certain things. I like this way of playing, maybe trying 3-4 times before being able to make a shot, rather than some of the newer pins where as long as the ball travels upwards on the field, it'll hit something, giving you points. No more skill necessary... sorry I'm ranting here...
This pin look to be a serious skill shot type of pin is all I am trying to say, so ignore all that last crap I just like to type on about things I love...but most of you here already know that... biggrin.gif

Yes, this is just the beginning. Most of my recreations will be old stuff, some bagatelle going back to possibly the mid to late 1800s. But the commercial recreations will be flippered and flipperless from 1930-1960s. Once I add them, you might enjoy playing some of my recreations of Counter Top games and Trade Stimulators, both of which are great fun and my favorites of all. Once I finish adding my stuff, I'll add similar tables from a fellow called Druadic, who got me started as an author.

Not sure if you're still reading this, but I have seen references to a VP9 version (in this thread: https://www.vpforums...ic=45175&page=2). Does one exist, or is this the latest?
